Hi Kristina and welcome! I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your baby. I can't and won't even begin to imagine how you must feel. I will tell you to hang in there. The band will help you lose weight for you to have a safe pregnancy with a happy ending. I too am a nervous wreck about surgery. I go in Friday the 5th to be banded! It's been a 6 month wait doing all the requirements the insurance company insisted on. But it's here and I'm nervous and scared and excited and having about every other emotion out there. You just keep popping in here for support. We are here for you. As for the sleeping, well, try dreaming of nice and thin you are gonna be!

I Finally Have A Surgery Date For Gastric Bypass
channing28105 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I finally got a Surgery Date for my Gastric bypass I am getting my Gastric bypass on Tuesday July 24, 2012. I start on a Full liquid Diet on July 10, 2012 where I have whey Protein drinks at Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I can have some Soups like tomato , Cream of mushroom Soup and I can have some pudding and if I want something soldi I can have Carrots, tomatoes and Celery. I have my Pre-Op appointment on June 25, 2012. I would like prayers and I would like to have a Diet Buddy and I will want to know what to do 1. What Should I do If I am having Vomiting that lasts for several hours 2. What Should I Do If I am having Diarrhea for several hours I know that you can experience these things after having Gastric Bypass. I have some more questions: 1. If you have vomiting that lasts for several hours do you have to get to the hospital even if it means calling 911? 2. If you have diarrhea for several hours do you have to get to the hospital even if it means calling 911? Right now I Vomit with my Heartburn or GERD. Has anyone ever had Heartburn or GERD where they Vomited with their Heartburn or GERD? Did you do things like Belch with your Heartburn or GERD? I am looking for email pen pals that have gone through Gastric Bypass that can be my diet buddy that I can share my weight with. I am wanting to try to lose some weight on my own before the pre0op. I like pen pals that can answer short letters with questions like: 1. Do you have any pets? 2. Do you like music? 3. What type of music do you like? I would appreciate it if my questions about What to do about Vomiting and Diarrhea that lasts for several hours after Gastric Bypass is answered and my questions about Heartburn or GERD and pen pals is answered. If you know the answers to my questions please let me know I would appreciate it. Channing -
Great stories everyone!:thumbs_up:I do okay (for me at least since I'm still struggling a bit) until I am out of town and go out to eat at a very nice restaurant. Their desserts are always soooo good. I just did not pass up that carrot cake even though I knew better. I did take half of it with me and ate it for breakfast the next morning. Can I count it as a veg for carrots, protein from nuts, and milk for the cream cheese frosting? Anyway, it was good and I am back home so no more carrot cake. It was really good until I stepped on the scale this morning. Happy weight loss to everyone.

Did you find anyone? I got my band in Surrey in 2008 but won't go back to my surgeon because he filled me without unfilling and i ended up in emergency getting it emptied. I've gained 90 lbs in 4 years
-
Hi, see your surgeon, run the questions by him/her. I am in the sweet spot, too! But, I have gained during maintenance due to my own fault. My surgeon, even tho' he is supportive, will not fill me further because I can't tolerate any more fill than 5cc. If he puts in even 5.5 the barium will not pass through. So, I am watching my calorie count and doing what any good dieter would do to take off the lbs I gained while not doing what I should do!!!But, anyway, if you are in your sweet spot, and near goal, I think to hang in there and decrease your calories (if you are at normal count like 1200-1400). I need to eat under 1200 to lose and 1400 to stay the same. Best wishes, I hope that helps. Karen

Ok, I went to an information seminar, met with the patient advocate and she told me that I was covered and proceeded to tell what the requirements were, BMI of 40, 5 year weight history at a BMI of 40 or a BMI of 35-39 with 2 comorbid conditions. I ciouldn't believe this is what my insurance would ask for so, I called them. I spoke to a representative and they told me that I only needed a BMI of 40+ or 35-39 with one or more co morbid conditions. The advocate said that "the insurance" people that work for true results know a lot about insurance and they know what the requirements are. She told me to get the info, in writing and she would look over it. So, I called my HR dept. and retrieved a copy of the "Booklet of Certificate" which explains all of the coverage that my insurance company covers. In a nutshell it states that charges are covered if a person is severe or morbidly obese, and then it give the definitions of what those are. There is no mention of additional requirements. Is this correct??? If there are requirements where would I find them??? HELP!!!

Fish is not a bad place to start, actually. I am a huge sushi fan....would suggest starting with stay away from the rolls and rice dishes. Perhaps try small bites of sashimi: tuna, salmon, eel, shrimp, yellow tail, scallops, crab. I also did well with tempura. After you try rice to see if it will work with your band, then slowly start back with the rolls. If you use the regular soy sauce, expect Water weight the next day - but it goes away quickly. Low sodium soy is great but not as flavorful...I like to mix the two - which helps a little. What also worked for me: chicken fingers, thin fajita steak and chicken, chili, bean/queso nachos, low fat Peanut Butter on crackers, shrimp (grilled, boiled, etc), spinach salad + Protein, lettuce wraps, high protein smoothie King, grilled chicken, skirt steak (thinly pounded & sliced), mixed nuts, Gen Soy bars, Balance Gold bars, rotisserie chicken, grilled salmon Hope this might help! If you do not do well one day with a food - try it again later. In the beginning, I had a very difficult time with ground meat - not so much of an issue now. Best of luck!! Tiffany

I would like to know how many calories everyone is taking in daily. How many you aim for and how many you really get in. Also put in some info as to how far along you are with your lap band . Myself I was banded may 21st 2008 and i do not have a fill yet. Im eating 1 cup of food and still losing weight thus no fill. I can eat pretty much any food with no issues , and i try to keep the calories under 1,000 but my new goal is 500 if i can. ~~jessica

Adding Calories With Small Portions?
says_simon replied to says_simon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I need to give more information. I was banded in 2006 but didn't get it filled until January this year. I am well restricted right now and experience very little hunger. I like it and I'm losing weight. I eat a vegan diet that is nutrient rich and low in fat. I try to take a long (one hour) walk three times a week, and other days I'm walking about 20 minutes with the dog. In another thread, they were talking about needing more calories than what I'm probably getting in order to really lose weight. Plus they were saying you could create a calorie deficit when you are exercising. It's very confusing advice to me. I like what I'm doing now, but now I'm questioning whether I'm doing things right. Then there's also the school of thought that says that longevity is encouraged by caloric restriction, even though your metabolism slows down, in fact, because of that. That would tend to justify my current eating plan. The only way I can see to increase my current calories is to add an avocado on some days, but avocados aren't always available. -
Hello everyone! I was banded on Aug 12th, I have lost 26 lbs.. very excited about that. I was feeling great the week after my surgery, I could not have felt better, well that did not last to long.. I know I am in need for a fill, just becuase of the hunger pains I get now but my doc will not do this for another 2 weeks.. anyway I am trying not to over eat so I am eating weight watchers meals.. I feel full after I eat them, but then about an hr later I am nausea.. can anyone tell me why this could be happening.. I litterily have to hold back a gag. I am willing to try any sugestions. Thanks Laura

Hey guys..I know I know.. I posted on here about a week ago that I didn't think I needed a fill but this week no weight loss! Even with working out 5 times a week. I did have some slip ups this week such as sushi ( california roll) half of an avocado burger from Chili's and an egg, cheese, turkey meat on wheat toast even though I couldn't finish it all. This is the first time since surgery I was able to get these foods in. I feel like such a loser and am wondering is this an indicator I should get my first fill on my next visit which is Thursday. I will be 5 weeks post op by then.

Exercise and diet no use for obese, claim researchers
TijuanaPlication posted a topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
"University of Melbourne professor of medicine Joseph Proietto said recent research showed that while obese people who made the effort could shed weight in the short term, after four to five years the lost weight was almost completely regained. Far from being due to laziness, this appeared to be caused by hormonal changes as the body sought to return to what it considered its benchmark weight." Exercise and diet no use for obese, claim researchers
TijuanaPlication replied to TijuanaPlication's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
The MOST effective WLS is the Duodenal Switch. I've seen stats on excessive weight lost (EWL) with the VSG as being 70% and with the DS as 80%. You do have to be more diligent with taking enough vitamins and protein with the DS and that surgery does carry more risk than the VSG. The good thing about VSG is that you could subsequently revise to the DS if necessary (although you're likely to be a slower loser if you choose the 2 stage route). -
So, I had my first appointment with the Dr. for my follow-up. It went GREAT, the scale at home has been lying to me and I am actually down 13 lbs. Part of me wants to just go nuts and work harder at losing as much as fast as I can, but knowing that if I decided to move to fast I stand the possibility of looking like a shar-pei puppy is really saying to me that I need to just take it slow and easy as it comes. I came across some yummy protein powder at my local GNC, its a local product and I have to say it reminds me more of a nice milkshake than a 50 gram of protein in it ! Needless to say I have a full jug of the stuff and plan on using it once daily from now on! Other than that, life is good. I had to maintain my weight in order to be okayed for surgery through my insurance so I am writing off the 13 lbs that I have lost as my padding for the approval weight. My hubby has dropped some weight too which makes him happy, nothing like your wife not cooking anymore and restricting your calories to make a huge change in his lifestyle as well.

Lol! my hubby has lost weight too! I quit cooking all those goodies, and he dropped too! lol! Keep up the good work!

As of today I lost 31.5 lvs since Jan 5th Just about out of the 170"s I started working out last week alternating cardio and stength weight training. Food i still a struggle, I dont have a whole variety of eating yet. I just starred adding fruit such as an apple and i can only eat half, I also had pb with it. Still struggle to get my water and all my protein in. Still a learning curve, of finding out which foods I can handle. I had a baby blizzard and it was so good. But at he end must of bene a big sugar attack and i was not feeling well at all, i wanted to make myself throw up, he feeling went away after an hour or so. And the next day no effects from the icecream, before I would hve direhea. I been having milk products for a while in, motly in thr greek yogurt and cheeses. I stick to almond Milk. Also i am Having the odd fruit smoothie every now and then, i can drink a cup but it takes me well ovr 30-60 mins depends how thick it is. Here is an updated pic

This is a pretty good one. http://lapbandtransformation.com/Adjustments.htm Overall.. the only thing I don't really do it drink carbonated beverages. and I TRY not to drink with food, I do occasionally though. I'm talking physical things.. not things like "don't have milkshakes" that should be obvious lol Everything else is really up to how you personally wanna lose weight... if you wanna do low carb or whatever.. that's your choice, but the band doesn't care..

Just got back from my one month follow up and I have lost 15 pounds. Not what I had hoped for but it's weight I'll never seen again. I had been on antibiotics during week two and they said that slowed down my loss. Hopefully things will start moving now. I have also been released for all physical activities and returning to work and can now introduce foods one at a time. So thankful to be getting back to a more normal life. Zumba classes here I come.

JULY BANDSTERS!!!!!!! Where are you? UPDATE THREAD :)
karibensea replied to barbie1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too was banded on 9 July and I am only down 36 lbs. I feel really kind of defeated right now and not sure exactly what I might be doing wrong. I really can eat mostly anything I want to try and if it works then I finish eating and if not I am able to stop with just a bite or two. I have had only 2 fills since July and I just get so confused and feel that something is just not right when I see others who have been banded around the same time who have lost sooooooooo much weight. What am I not doing? Michele -
Hi Chrissy. Congrats on your continued weight loss.

Starting Over After Two Years of No Loss
laurigee replied to kabeerah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just remember that the band is suppose to also help you with changing your habits and relationship with food. It's not meant to keep you from eating at all, or using it as a crash diet. Take this opportunity in your life to understand why you over eat and learn healthy habits like picking the best foods to eat and exercising regularly. The reality of keeping the weight off once you start eating again is probably pretty slim. Try to get there by doing it right and your chances of maintaining it are alot better. The liquid diet wasn't for quick weight loss, it was to shirink the liver, and then afterwards, to protect the new stomach and band. Of coarse you can do things your way, but it just doesn't sound very healthy. I'm not sure without solid food for a month I would have the energy to take care of a baby. Good Luck, I hope things go well for you. -
Hi Chrissy! I am so sorry about the losses in your life. Your stress level must've been through the roof. Going back to your doctor is the perfect first step. Regardless of whether the scale says you lost, gained, or stayed the same look at it as a clean slate. This is your new "first day" and everything that happened (or didn't happen) before now just doesn't matter. The fact you're buckling down and getting back on track on now is all that matters. I think a trip to see your nutritionist would help, too. If I were in your shoes, I'd make an appointment with them and let them help you. Best wishes.

Starting Over After Two Years of No Loss
Dominic replied to kabeerah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm so sorry to hear that you couln't even swallow your spit; nobody deserves a struggle like that. I really hope you find some balance with your weight, because I know how hard it can be to deal with the stress that goes along with it. -
Reasonable expectations for loose skin improvements after bulk of weight loss and maintaining ?
Mhy12784 replied to Mhy12784's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have a lot, it's certainly not bad. I would probably avoid a tummy tuck just because I think the scars would be worse than any benefits in my case. I'm just trying to figure out if it's reasonable to expect any improvement in the first year, or if it is what it is and it ain't ever changing. If there's even a little improvement id probably never do any kind of contouring, if there's none I think a mini tummy tuck could be a reasonable solution (as I only have it in that front lower abdomen area, pretty much noticeable only when sitting or bending over) Of course I lost like 75 pounds (the majority) of my weight in 3 months, so I didn't know if it's reasonable to expect the skin to "catch up" or not -
How Many Calories For Weight Loss?!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Tahneesamson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's a tricky question, because I can almost guarantee everyone will tell you something different because every surgeon and nutrionist is different. I can tell you what I eat- I eat 1100-1200 calories a days. I eat a minimum of 60g of Protein, no more than 125g of carbs, and no more than 20% total fat intake for the day. I started on 1000 calories a day and my weight loss slowed so I upped my calories a little bit and it worked to kick my metabolism into working again. Everyone's body is different and works differently, including losing weight. Some say no carbs at all, whereas I can eat carbs and still lose weight without problem. The trick on this journey is to find out what works for you specifically. That (unfortunately) means considerable trial and error until you find it. I also use an app called Lose It! I love it, it's on my phone as well as on the PC and both sync. It not only counts calories but can even tell me the break down of grocery store and restaurant foods. It does also give you a calorie intake recommendation based on your weight and how much you want to lose and will adjust your allotted calories as your weight decreases. Good luck to you
