  1. I just use a multi nutritional shake everyday usually and have a liquid vitamin.
  2. Ohh I see. So it happens when it gets stuck? I had an Optifast bar get stuck once and it felt like I was having a heart attack, but I didn't slime. I think because I was drinking sips of Water to get it down. That was the scariest feeling I think I've ever experienced. Drinking water made it hurt more, but it got it down faster. I would've chosen chili fries too! They sound like they'd be soft and easy to go down. If you had've chosen something else who knows, it could've been worse.
  3. Hi everyone! I was wondering how many of you are taking their clothes in at the side or are just buying new ones? I'm one of those horders who've kept all of their clothes since I was 12 upward, thinking someday I'll lose weight, so I'm quite lucky that a lot of those clothes fit me now  I was also thinking of taking my clothes in until I lose all of the weight, that way I won't have to keep buying. (limited moneyz. Student life. Blergh). Anyone else? Feel free to post up pictures of stuff you've bought too :smile2:
  4. That's funny and cute. I'm having a similar problem at the moment - Luckily I was one of those people who always says, "Hmmm...I won't chuck those jeans out because they might fit me someday"...On the odd occassion that it'd pay off - it did :smile2: Are you going to sew your clothes to make them smaller, or are you just going to buy new ones? I think I might sew mine until I lose all the weight.
  5. I heard gas-x strips work well
  6. Oh. Yummy! Something to look forward to! Ahahaha. The county fair? Does that mean you were sampling some tasty treats when it happened? Did people see it and go, "WHAT THE! IT'S THE EXORCIST!" (I've always imagined it was green) Was it embarassing? I have no experiences with sliming :smile2: So I've got no clue what it looks like. We should change the blue saliva of that smilie to green or whatever colour slime is. This is a tasty conversation that goes well with my morning yogurt
  7. I'm not saying it doesn't work at all - I'm saying it's not ideal. If you eat a large portion of a meal and your appetite is suppressed and then you're hungry again in 2 or so hours, then it doesn't seem like your band is working. - Or your brain quickly overcomes appetite supression. Fact of the matter is. The band works by supressing the appetite when we eat, making us less likely to eat between meals. If we don't eat enough, our appetites aren't supressed. By eating between meals, we're adding more food to our day - which is exactly what the band is meant to stop (as it's an appetite supressant). As they say: "The band is empowering; if you eat an appropriate amount and make appropriate food choices, you will be satisfied for several hours. This results in either weight loss, or weight maintenance (if you are at your goal)." If you're eating smaller portions that don't satisfy you, you're likely to eat more often, thus eating more food, which isn't what the band is for. I'm sure eating 6 meals a day works great for someone, but I'm going by what she previously stated, which was - "Have you tried eating more often in smaller amounts?" C'mon...That just by-pass the banding's appetite supression use. - That's the point I'm trying to make. It may work with diabetes patients, because it helps them feel less hungry but WE HAVE LAP BANDS to make us feel less hungry! Because it works with diabetes patients, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to work with us. The whole point of the band is to supress our appetites...You don't do that by eating multiple meals that don't satisfy you. I'm trying to get the OP to feel more satisfied with 1 meal, than with multiple meals that won't fix her appetite.
  8. When you go into surgery they pump your stomach up with gas, so there's a lot of gas around your organs. (If you wanna see how they do it, it's really interesting, youtube 'lap-band' surgery) That gas sometimes gets left behind and as a result and travels to the highest place it can usually reach - the chest or the shoulder. This results in a silly little pain as it sits there, waiting to dissolve. People also think that the gas only reaches the top of the abdominal wall, and as there's limited nerves there is registers as shoulder pain. Weird, eh? Anyways, it happens to almost everyone when they have laporascopic surgery.
  9. Bah. It's cool.. Seems like most people do it, including me
  10. No worries at all. I'm glad it went this direction anyways lol...Not much to talk about besides a drooling smilie. The new topic can be sliming: I actually haven't vomited or 'slimed' or anything like that yet and I was banded a little over a month ago. When people say they do it it really confuses me and makes me glad I've never had to go through that.
  11. Seriously? What's the deal with people hating baby food? I can completely understand the savoury ones being disgusting, but the fruit ones are just fruit puree with no added sugar or preservatives!
  12. The pain wasn't as bad for me. Within a couple of hours of getting home from the hospital my mum had me up and doing chores for her. I think I ripped a bit of the port off my abdominal wall because I wasn't laying still. Best thing is to just lay still and let it heal. The more you move your stomach muscles, the greater the chance of getting a flipped port. Just rest and you should be fine. It takes a couple of weeks for all of the pain to go away.
  13. I actually haven't spoken to my surgeon about it...It's just how the band works and it's pretty common knowledge: Lap-band weight loss surgery is not about restriction The whole point of this forum is to offer support and learn and lose weight. I'm sorry if I offended you by disagreeing with you, but I'd feel worse if the thread starter had taken advice that can offen result in 'snacking' or 'grazing', which is something we often try to avoid if possible. The point of fills are to get enough restriction and eat enough to suppress your appetite to be less interested in food in between meals. This doesn't include stretching the stomach...They're two entirely different things so I'm kind of confused as you why you're bringing that up when she doesn't have a problem with that, and I'd never mentioned it. So I'm assuming having multiple meals a day isn't going to do that. I can imagine this wouldn't apply in the first few weeks though, as you're restricted to mushies and liquids which pass through the band easier, thus having to eat more - sometimes not all at once. If it works for the then cool. But the whole point of the band is to supress the appetite and that commonly doesn't work when you eat less food more often, as you previously stated.
  14. Here ya go: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f82/liquid-stage-recipes-17636/ and you can blend anything up. Try some fruit and low fat yogurt. Be creative! You can even take normal foods that everyone else is having for dinner (like curry chicken or something) and blend that up. Basically if it's blendable and it doesn't rely on consistency for deliciousness, you can blend it.
  15. Ahaha, I love your analogy. I'm a bit lactose intollerant too. I never stopped eating dairy products until now though - :smile2:
  16. Yep, it hurts. You may experience some depression at some stage too...This is all normal and your body eventually gets used to not being able to eat as much. Let your body heal.
  17. Uh oh Dave...You've gone too far now.. Just kidding.
  18. She doesn't have a problem with her stomach streatching. If you eat little often then you don't get enough food to reach the nerves at the top of the stomach that sends the message to the brain that you're full - that's how the band works.
  19. Change your workout to something else for a while. Eat more Protein and less carbs as Cheri said and don't give up! Edit: The plateau diet sounds good too. But I think this might be closely related to doing a similar workout (running and cycling are more similar than we think) and your body may have adjusted to it. I hope this is the problem anyways, because it's easily fixed :-) Cheers.
  20. Grazing isn't a good habbit to get into for lap banders. I'd suggest eating less often with larger amounts.
  21. Congrats! I was looking at my BMI wheel last night and was thinking how great it'd be to get to that category. Well done
  22. What??? Baby food is just mushed up fruit and oatmeal sometimes with less sugar and no additives  How is it repulsive? Is it just the thought of it?
  23. I was banded on the 21st of September and have lost 13 kilos (28 lbs). :-D I'm hoping to lose another 13 kilos before December.
  24. Cooking, Baking and recipes - LAP-BAND There's some good ideas in there. I think with weightloss most of the time comes with preparation of food though - eating pre-packaged non-fresh foods can lead you to trouble. I personally eat a lot of oranges, and 'For me' yogurt, which contains only 70 calories for a 175g tub. Baby food is good too! Just don't get the savoury ones - they're pretty gross.
