Welcome new Members!!!
Hi everyone! My name is Debbie. My starting weight was 233. I have lost 65 pounds since my surgery in March. I'm 6 months out and I think I'm on target with the loss. In order for me to weigh 135 that I would love to see, I have 33 more pounds left to lose. However, if I push myself to go down to 130 that would be 38 more pounds. I will play this by ear to see where I land and feel comfortable. I know that bcp can hamper the weight loss. I decided to go back on them for hormonal reasons per my doctor. I don't know how much that will play in my overall loss month to month. Will keep everyone posted. (right now I am on vacation hubby will not let me around a scale until we are home. LOL.......) Deb

Frustrated with United Healthcare
Depends on which policy your employer / spouse employer has. I'm covered under state employee policy. Which differs from policy to policy. I have a great policy. When I received the phone call the case manager informed me that a letter would follow. So depending on which policy would dictate what you would receive or not receive. As with anything each is different and experiences will differ as well. I didn't have any issues at all. However, If you can request the approval in writing do so.

Hitting 60 lb mark and hair falling out in HANDFULS!
I agree Biotin 5000 is what I am taking twice a day. I also use Nutri-Ox shampoo and conditioner. I have noticed my loss becoming less and less. I'm 6 months out. It hasn't completley stopped but it has cut the loss more than in half. Went from hand fulls to just enough to barely cover the drain in the shower. But again everyone is different. I will continue to take the biotin and using the shampoo and conditioner. Good luck! Deb

Frustrated with United Healthcare
UHC mails a letter once approval has been determined. I still have mine. (along with the vmail from the case manager. LOL) It usually arrives within two weeks from the day of the verbal. Deb

Started documentation
Today I had my annual visit with primary for physical. We discussed plastics and she documented the fact that my "bat wings" pull and it is painful. As for my boobs, she documented that I have back pain and the excess skin pulls and is very painful. There is a rash developing. So this is a good start. She is in favor of the plastics. She was impressed that I lost 9 pounds in a month. I go back to see my surgeon next month. I'm hopeful that I will be at least halfway to goal by then. (Fingers crossed) Deb

United Healthcare requirement
I have UHC Choice Plus and I didn't have to submit a five year history. However, depending on which plan your employer has will determine what you will need to submit. I had to call the 800 # on the back of my card which they gave me the 800 # to the Bariatric Resource Service to "enroll" which I received a case manager who in turn reviewed what critieria I needed to meet. For my policy I had to complete a six month supervised diet and exercise, psych eval, have a bmi over 40 and a letter from my PCP. Once I completed those requirements the surgeon submitted all of my paperwork to my UHC case manager. Best thing to do is to call and see if there is a number to put you in contact with a Bariatric Resource Service Rep. They are the ones that deal with the ins and outs of your policy for Weight Loss Surgery. Good Luck with everything. Deb

My Plastics Journey - My first one (of several)
Looking good Irene!!!! I know its still early for me to be thinking plastics, however I'm going to be discussing with my PCP how my boobs hurt because they are a drooping and pulling. Getting documentation will be helpful when submitting to insurance. My insurance will cover if submitted as reconstructive. You really look amazing!!!! Congrats on getting it done!!!!! Deb

Low carb versus low calorie
Clarify I count total. That is what works for me. I don't have the time to pick it apart. Charting total is what I do. Not everyone will see eye to eye on this. So to say one is better than the other just is a matter of opinion.

Low carb versus low calorie

Low carb versus low calorie
I do not eat potatoes, rice, bread, Pasta. Period. I enjoy my green vegetables very much. I have to say that I do not miss the potatoes, rice, bread, pasta. I use to crave the hell out of those pre surgery. Today, the smell is a turn off. I Do eat a lot of fish and chicken and green Beans, brussel sprouts and cabbage, any green vegetable. I do eat fruit, melons are my favorite. I'm not bashing anyone just because their preference is different, just that I prefer low carb, as it is what works for me. Not everyone is the same. Some need more carbs than others. I keep mine under 30. If what you are eating is working for you then stick to it. Deb

Going Shopping
For the past month I have been weeding through my closet. I have found some old clothes that I can now wear to work. My can wear pile is way smaller than the can't wear pile. My size has went from a 16 to a 14 (I'm guessing) in about five weeks. The 16's are baggy in the butt and waist. So I'm going shopping. My vacation starts Sept. 1 and will be heading to the beach so need some cute capris and tanks. Love that feeling. Deb

The dreaded hair loss
My hairloss over a month ago was bad. Now not so bad. I take 5000 mg of Biotin and 50 mg of zinc on top of my multi and I use Nutri-Ox shampoo and conditioner. The loss seems not as much now. I will continue using for awhile. Deb
