No Need for Antidepressants After Banding?
No such luck for me. I hate taking pills. I went off the Nsaids for my arthritis, but am missing them and haven't been able to go off of any other meds yet. I wish I could, the bucks for all those meds. could buy a lot of new small clothes.

Please Help! Can I still have LPS if........
I agree, don't let the uneducated talk you out of getting your health back. Dropping excess weight will change your medical needs. You will probably need to decrease your meds as your need for them decreases. It is painful to carry excess weight. Pain and arthritis management were my main reasons for getting the band. Do it!

I have a date!
Many congrats Laurend! Do you have a pre-surgery diet? With close to two thousand posts to your credit you must be the most informed pre-bandster ever. I can't wait to hear about your weight loss victory.

I live in squalor
Great advice everybody. I am going to check out the flylady site. My DH is a slob. He is untrainable. He grew up with maids in s america and so now he drops things everywhere, loses everything, and then complains about it. I think he suffers from depression and add also. Trying to solve the problem is a fight waiting to happen. So I try to do it myself. Which is impossible, and depressing. Add three teenagers...

starting over
Good luck Tess L, Please post what works for you because I have not been the best bandster either and I need to get back to work. Summertime is here with all the great fresh fruits and veggies and all that heat (which means fewer things to hide in). Gardening for me should help. I have 7 cubic yards of mulch in my driveway with my name on it. Maybe you could do some gardening too, add some summer flowers and have it be a reminder of your band journey? I just planted a honeysuckle with red flowers... Sorry about the rambling. Having the band has worked well for me but it does get boring doesn't it? Before the last round of cakes for mothers day and multiple birthdays...leftover cake..., I had coffee and cereal for bfast, a protein drink for lunch and a smaller version of the familys meal for dinner. For a night snack I had an orange.

Eating out of boredom
Boredom is a big trigger for me too. Gum helps (I using diet soda pre-band, and now i avoid bubbles) just be sure not to swallow it...It seems wierd, but the more busywork I have to do for other people, the more bored I get and I have really fallen off the wagon. Routine helps in the "get it out of the house" way. Be in the routine of not buying it. If goodies have to be around, freeze them so they are available to not addicted family members, but harder to eat for us.

Still Left Out
Sheree, Don't take a lack of response personally, we are all in the same boat! I too have had those "what did I say?" moments, and for a while I felt like a thread killer. The rule of "give what you want to receive" works well for these forums. It feels really good to give others support as you go on your own journey to good health. Soon people will get to know you and you will be on the receiving end of support too! Good luck!

Mood Swings?!?!?!?
Wow, no wonder my periods have been so strange. I thought the change was coming! Talk about major PMS. Sheesh. I did some retail therapy today and the clerk brought me a medium in the changing room. It didn't fit but it was nice to think that that was the size she picked for me. I did find a whole lot on sale in Large (no x's or xx) I'm on my way.

Cincinnati Weight Loss Center?
I had mine done by Dr Osborne at cincy wt loss and haven't had any trouble. The banded nurses are very helpful too.

How did you find out about the Band?
I was watching the Dr.Phil show and saw an advertisement that featured a woman who was my height and weight before and was so slim after banding. It was very inspiring. I was banded two months later.

Vitamin Deficiency
It could also be a TIA (blood clot) so it is important that your doctor give you a good workup. The vitamin thing is just a coincidence. Good luck and let us know what happens!

Fear of weight loss
Excellent advice from TerryDoodle! I agree that it sounds like you need to adjust your thinking. Remember that you are trying to lose weight because that is the HEALTHY thing to do! Keep pushing your liquids (non-caloric or low-caloric, I like lemon Propel) and adjust your calories if you need to,in order to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week. Your body will thank you for it; don't let fear keep you form your goal.

What size do you want to be?
Sizes are so weird. I made most of my clothes in high school to save money and had a size 12 pattern that fit me at 132 lbs (I was 5'71/2" then). I saved one pair of pants in that size as "inspiration" to lose weight and now when I look at them they must be a 4! LOL After having twins (18 lbs of baby combined) there is no way I could be that small. I started at a size 20 and didn't have much because I just couldn't find things I liked. Now I'm a 16 (at 185 lbs) and I am starting to get into shopping again. What fun! My goal is a 10, but I would settle for a 12. Does anyone know how clothing patterns run these days???

So, yay or nay on this haircut?

Post-Op Pain Survey Questions
- Last straw stories
I had a whole box of last straws over my weight, but was giving up hope about getting the weight off. I had been an expert dieter. I had dieted off hundreds of pounds. ...just gained them back and then some... My DH had had bypass surgery and it probably saved his life but I just couldn't deal with all the potential complications. Likewise about the RNY. Too risky, too much down time to recover from surgery. I had never heard of the band until one day seeing a commercial about it on TV! From that moment I started to have hope again. I had to self pay in spite of many co-morbid conditions, but I don't regret it a bit. I'm down to a weight that I have now been for 10 years and I am feeling so much better. (down 42 lbs, 58 to go) Life is bearable and getting better every day.- How has exercise affected your results?
I have not added exercise in yet, but I am counting down to it. I have arthritis and wanted to get some of my excess weight off befor stressing my joints with a new routine. I am a housewife though, so I normally putter through the day and don't sit much. I'm sure that helped. I have lost 1 to 2 pounds per week and it gets boring waiting for the numbers to change but I'm learning patience! My plan is to add in exercise in at 45 pounds. I'm at 43...- Help after operation?
If you have all your liquids stocked up, you'll be fine. I just wanted to sleep the day after, but didn't need "nursing." Also get a bunch of DVDs to watch, 'cause I'm a big promoter of pleasent distraction to get through discomfort. I have arthritis and recovery from the band procedure was a snap.- Grazing!
Hi! If you know what time is risky, schedule something else during that time slot. I don't know if you work or are at home during that time, but here are some suggestions: chew gum get your Water in, (I drink lemon propel, it's very refreshing) have coffee with skim milk go shopping and walk, walk the mall (no food court!) get a manicure/ haircut/ shop for a smaller size catch up on some reading/ do a crossword or sudoko watch a funny movie while catching up on ironing clean out a junk drawer email friends or post on lapbandtalk! phone a friend walk the dog bathe the dog... make a TO-DO list for those moments when you feel that restlessness coming on... In other words, if you can plan a plesant distraction you won't think about having a food that your body doesn't need anyway. good luck!!!!!- Going back and forth with bariatric surgery....
Moosictchr, Welcome! Please check out all of the band vs. bypass threads in this forum before you go to see your doc. The lapband is the easiest to recover from (the actual surgery) and doesn't have all of the wierd long-term malabsorption complications of the bypass or RNY. Doctors like fast results, often at the cost of your overall health at times (except for band docs!) so don't be surprised if the consult you are seeking pushes for bypass or RNY. The weight loss with the band is slow. 1-2 lbs/ week. Waiting for the numbers to drop gets boring, but it happens! The slow weight loss is so much healthier for you and leaves less hanging skin and you have less muscle waisting. Not to mention bone loss... Good luck, and I hope you choose the band!- ??? What about eating out?
I love to eat out. Everyone gets to order what they want (i.e. I don't have to cook something and hear complaints from the one person who doesn't like it...). My DD has always eaten like a naturally thin person (she is now a teen and weighs about 115). What we do is split an appitizer with the family, split an entree' and share a desert. We also bring home extras so my teen son can eat it later! It must be working because I am in the 1 to 2 lb/week target. Hey Poodles, it sounds like your current fill is too much! You should at least be able to get liquids in in the am. Have you tried warm coffee or tea for the first drink to "relax" your band? I would check with your doc though, you might need a tiny "unfill"- Happy Easter!
Hi! I had an NSV of sorts this year. My kids are teens, they didn't want Easter candy SO I DIDN'T BUY ANY. This means I won't eat any either. What a thrill and calorie savings to boot! Any one else manage to escape the Easter Bunny?- Dayton Bariatrics
Hi Donna, Where in Dayton do you live? I'm in Beavercreek. I havn't gone to the support groups for my surgeon because they are at an inconvient time for me. I havn't done formal exersise yet because I'm doing that ''sandwich generation " thing right now. My dad is slipping into dementia (i nipped his car keys last night, he shouldn't be driving) and I still have three kids at home (high school). sigh It would be nice for us Datonians to get together sometime, yes?- Why Not Gastric Bypass?
Remember RNY is different from the gastric bypass (with duodenal switch). My DH had the bypass with the full intestinal re-arraingement. They take the last 100 cm of the small intestine and attach it to your stomach. That is why there is the foul smelling gas and diarrhea- from all the undigested food. I do mean foul. He lost the weight so fast that he has tons of loose skin and has lost most of his muscle tone. He also fights a vitamin D deficiency which makes his bones breakable (he has lost alot of height) and since he can't absorb it through the fist full of vitamins he takes every day, he can't get those levels up. His health problems are starting to freak me out as you can tell. Someone at his place of work had the RNY, where they make your stomach into a tiny pouch. She has to have weekly IV infusions of iron for anemia. Turns out the stomach absorbs it, now it's mostly gone so she is anemic and can't take the iron pills because of the constipation. Yup. The band is the way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love my band, - Last straw stories
