  4. I was banded on July 19th & had hernia repair also. My port is on the riight side which is where I felt a little sore. Beth & KS- congrats on your 1st fill. I get mine on Aug 31st. Cant wait.
  5. Hi Elfie, Im new to this thread but wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. I was never able to have children so my 2 terriers are my babies. They are my family. I know how difficult this is for you and you do need to allow yourself time to grieve. Dont be so hard on yourself and take it 1 day at a time. As I have read through these post you have lots of love & support here. 1 of the best things about this forum are the beautiful caring people you meet. We are all here to help each other out during lifes tough times.
  6. Hello everyone, I came across this thread couple of days ago and been making my way through it reading all your inspring stories and helpful tips. This forum has made my journey so much easier. I was banded on July 19th & feeling really good. Waiting to get my 1st fill on Aug 31st. A bit about myself. Im 46, single and mom of 2 girls (terriers) the 4 legged kind. I live in Sunny California, borderline Los Angeles and South Pasadena. Ive struggled with overweight since I was 3...thats when my inner thighs decided 2become conjoined twins. I did lose 100 lbs on Lindora back in 1996 and kept it off for 10 yrs then life thru a curve ball . Had been juggling the notion of getting banded since Nov of 2009 & now here I am on this journey with all of you & hoping for the success so many of you have already achieved & that are well on your way. When I started my journey I told myself to take it 1 day at a time. Wishing to get to know all of you better with time. Enjoying the journey  but prepared for the bumps along the way.
  7. Welcome to all the newbies! This is a great place to learn from & share your journey & of course get inspired. I was 3 wks post-op as of Monday. I can feel my port. My port is also just below my bra line & rest on the rib cage on the right side. I went to visit my mother & step-father & I had them feel the port. As my mom was rubbing I told her"It's a girl" LOL! we decided to name it baby Suki. I have seen some after pics on this forum where you can see the port but the majority cant be seen. Each day has been a learning experience. Wishing everyone a beautiful day.
  8. Good Morning to all you beautiful ladies. Im so greatful for this forum. I did do alot of reasearch on my own & thought I was pretty well informed but until I came on this site & you hear what someone who has actually been banded goes thru, the ups and downs & read their amazing journeys has made a difference each and everyday. Im inspired, enlightened and so very touched. Ive lost weight b4 & kept if off for awhile only to gain it all back again. This time it has been more emotional. I feel like Im facing my true feelings & association with food. Getting to dig really deep & really see what this relationship with food is all about is quite scary at time. Even though I have discussed my weight issues with my psychologist (who I see 3x/wk) I have been in a sort of denial & know having to face them head on although scary Im hoping that I truly learn & can benefit lifelong from this journey. Like any addiction I know I will need to take it day by day for the rest of my life. I thank you all for your honesty, understanding and support. Together we will get thru this journey. We will shine even brighter than when we started.
  9. I did not have sutures or staples. I was glued. My Dr ok'd me to swim after 2 weeks. I would chk with your Dr. b4 hand just to make sure. Good luck!
  10. I also burp after a every few bites or sometimes just by drinking water. I also get the hiccups when I drink water to fast. My neighbor has 2 teenage boys and now they have some serious competition.
  11. Hi! I will status everyone on my test results. I normally get the results same day. C.T. scans/lab @ 9:30am & Dr flup at 1:00. As for the Triathlon....Girl, I say Go for it! Its about building up your endurance. I would still take it easy till you get cleared for weights but you can start building your endurance on the treadmill/elyptical but remember you need to train outside also. Walking & running on pavement uses totally different muscles. Triathlon is on my "To do" list. Im going to chk and see if their are any in my area. It is a great goal. Even if you dont finish think of all the great exercise & calories you burned. We need to push ourselfs a little harder to see how much we can actually do. You will surprise yourself. Its a win/win situation. I dusted off my WII FIT & did step aerobics for 35 min & marching band :w00t:LOL!! & my thighs were burning. Do you know when we can cycle? I started swimming last week but did not ask the Dr about cycling. Take care
  12. I agree with you 100 %. Thanks for the prayers, I will keep you posted. Have a beautiful weekend
  13. Hi Stars, Here is a step by step Ticker tutorial. Have fun!:smile2: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/
  14. Rachel~I also had my share of a variety of epidurals which were sooooo painful but they did not help me. I am very fortunate not to have any symptoms due to the cancer. Its a slow growing cancer(Follicular Non-Hodgkns Lymphoma) & most people live a full & healthy life with it. Thats why I agreed wth my team of Dr's to "Watch & Wait" I go get my yearly scan next week at City of Hope but feeling very positive. I was telling my friend that I feel soooo good. I am about 95% pain free. Im down to 1 pill at night but soon will no longer need it. Glad were going on this journey together & I know our fututre is getting healther & soon we will be pain free. The best of luck and lets keep each other posted. Blessings:)
  15. Hi Joyce. I was banded on July 19th I have not experienced the bad taste but I burp alot and I get the hiccups alot right after I sip some liquid or eat something. I chew my food really good but I am aware I was drinking liquid to fast. The burps sometimes catch me by surprise and are quite loud  I start to laugh everytime it happens. I told my neighbor that her 2 teenage boys have competition know. LOL! I hope this is just temporary. Best of luck!
  16. I was banded on July 19th and going thru this exact same thing. Its quite seldom when it happens but always catches me by surprise.:smile2: Maybe the port is settling in. I will ask my Dr on my next appt. Best of luck
  17. Klisa~ I would say more like the stubborness kicked in. It was the first year where one could put their names on their bib but I hated it expecially cuz I was in so much pain. I walked with a towel over my head cuz I did not want to deal with anything. People would be chanting your name and cheering you on & I regreted putting my name on my bib. Rachael~Congrats! on begining your journey. Im going to check out Livestrong.com site. I too have degenrative disk desease. I had back surgery in 1996 & 2005, cervical diskectomy wth fusion in '96,'98 & 2000. I gained my most weight right b4 my 1st surgery. I was in pain for about 7yrs and almost ended quadropalegic. Thats when I finally decided to have surgery and told myself If I come out walking I will train for a marathon. I lost 100lbs on Lindora. 50 b4 surgery & the rest after. I fractured my neck in 2000(fell in my drive way) I dont have 1 good vertebrae in my back cuz I was born with arthrities in my back. I kept the weight off for about 10 years then life surprised me once again. I was diagnosed with incurable cancer. I also have fibromyalgia & in constant pain. I went thru an emotional rollercoaster dealing with the cancer in term of diet. EAT high alkalein(fruits and veggies) no sugar. I went from eating extremely healty organic and everything raw then I broke down physically & emotionaly. With all the steroids and stress I gained 80 lbs and even though I ate healthy and exercised I kept gaining. I realized it was healthy but not balanced. I ate hardly any protein so I was only burning off the carbs I was eating and not the stored fat. I guess What I want to say with all this is your health can & will get better as your weight drops. As your weight drops you will become a more active & you will be amazed how good you feel and how much you can accomplish. Lets keep each other posted on our journeys. Love this site cuz I have met so many amazing and insppring people. Enjoy your journey
  18. I have a great shrink and I see him about 3/mth. We have been discussing Lap-band issues for about 10 mths. My emotional journey since getting banded on July 19th has also been more like revelations. I was at the market yesterday and found myself getting very emotional. It wasnt bcuz I felt I couldnt eat this or that anymore but I had a sense of control. I felt powerful over food (if that makes sense) I CHOSE not to buy something and not bcuz I couldnt have it but I didnt want to. I get my 1st fill on Aug 31st. Dont get me wrong, I dont have any restriction and I do get hungry but I feel sooooo lucky to have been able to get the lap-band. I waited for so long and I think all the prep work I did on my own, with my shrink. & with the help of everybody on this site helped me immensly. I take it day by day and enjoy each new day & the surprise of what can I do today that I have not been able to do in a long time due to my weight. Wishing everyone a beautiful and successful day:smile2:
  19. Hi Tbones, Here is a step by step tutorial for the ticker. Hope it helps.
  20. I first looked into the lap-band Nov of last year and my BMI was 37 & I had no co-morbidities. Once again I tried WW and excercise. I started to get headaches and when I went to my primary Dr. My blood pressure was quite high but my weight was also +15lbs. Not only did I know meet the BMI of 40 but know I had High blood pressure. Your sooooooo close & 8 lbs are achievable. enjoy some delicious meals and drinks lots and lots of water b4 going to weigh in again. Im soooo happy with my Lap-Band. Had surgery july 19th and dont regret it and looking forward to my journey to the healtiher me. Best of luck and please keep us posted.
  21. Hi Claudia. Im sooo happy that you got your 1st fill. Ive known both Dr's for many years and Dr Lourie is really good also just that he did not take my insurance. I called the office today and they told me he know takes my insurance but Im calling them to verify. They also told me they dont know how to contact Dr Martin at this time. If all goes well and verifys with my insurance I will stay with Dr Lourie. Thanks so much for updating us. Yes, lets buddy up. Let me know how it goes with your 1st fill. I get mine on Aug 31st. Have a great weekend. Isabel
  22. Let's cyber run together! I did complete the marathon both times. The 1st time I trained for a good 6 mtns & was a piece of cake. Was not in pain during or after at all. The 2nd time totally different experience. I did not train to much & then I slipped 3 miles in but I was determined to finish. I walked the remainder of the 23.2 miles with leg cramps and I could not stop cuz the charlie horse wld kick in bad. I over hydrated and I finally stopped at 24 miles medical tent & was treated but I finished with ice packs wrapped around my calfs. 7 1/2 hrs. I was in pain for about 2 wks and had busted capillaries from my ankles to my knees. SOOO anyone planning on doing a marathon...TRAIN,TRAIN,TRAIN. It can be an awesome experience.
  23. Hello Ms C. I had surgery on July 16th by Dr. David Martin also. I saw him on July 27th and he told me that the practice was splitting up and he's actually at the same address but on the other side. He told me to call about 2 weeks b4 my next scheduled appt and verify and ask them for his new tel #. Dr Lourie is not covered by my insurance. Let me know what happens at your appt today. Im heading over to the office tomorrow & check out whats going on. Carol had also mentioned to me that the practice was splitting up and thats why your July 13th appt was cancelled. I was originally scheduled for surgery on the 14th and had it reshceduled for the 19th. Stay positive and Im sure things will work out for the both of us. Please Keep me posted and I will keep you posted.
  24. Hi NCG, Congrats on the surgery & great weight loss. I had surgery on july 19th & my 1st fill is on Aug 31. Ive heard can take 3/5 fills b4 reaching ones "Sweet spot" My Dr told me not to concentrate to much on losing weight the 1st month. Its time to heal and that the weight will come off once I start getting fills but I also do not want to gain back what I have lost. I also feel full with 1/2 the amount I used to eat. Im not getting on the scale cuz do not want to dissapoint myself but I know Im losing cuz my clothes already is fitting loose. I would talk to your nutritionist cuz it would all depent on how much you weigh and what would be best for you. Keep up the good work and look forward to your updates. Isabel
  25. I used to be a jogger also. Love to get lost in "The Zone" I did the L.A. Marathons 7 & 8 years ago. 1 of my goals is to complete it once again. Starting off slow. My exercise consists daily 3 mile walk with my dogs, Treadmill 30 min evening (also watch dvd & time sure goes by fast) I just started swimming at the gym yesterday:thumbup: but looking forward to starting weights so that I do not stay to flabby. Im sooo excited for all of us. Im really happy to be able to talk and share with all of you. :smile2:
