  1. Not sure what exactly was my insurance vs my doc. Because at the seminar everyone was given the same test and stuff so it didn't depend on patient history. I'm 28 and have no relevant medical history, yet I was still required to get a sleep study (very mild apnea, only like one in the 5 hours), pulmonary, chest rad, EKG, psych, nutrition, cardiac, etc... Forgot what else
  2. Unless my band was causing me physical harm there is no way I'd get it removed. I'm not sure how much it is helping then just giving me motivation, but I'd rather die than even risk going back to where I was. I know it sounds awful, but it's true. I had been in a very bad place for so long. So I would not want to take the chance
  3. A fill should not depend on how much wright you've lost. A fill is not going to make you lose weight. It may in the beginning die to going back to liquids for a couple days. But you are the only one that is going to make you lose weight and you are in control in what you put in your mouth. I'm hungry (need to get a little more fill) , bug I'm still losing weight just fine because I portion out my meals and eat that and then 1/2 hour later I drink to control the hunger (which is why I need another small fill). The fills are really just to control your hunger. I didn't get my first one till I was 5 months post op. Am I losing super quick lime some others, no, but I'm happy at my weight loss and I'm learning to eat better and count calories. So if you dong feel starving, don't get a fill
  4. Not with endoscopy. They can't see your pancreas with the scope. As stated above amylase and lipase levels, as well as ultrasound. The pancreas is very small and can be hard to see but if you have it they can see inflammation and such on ultrasound.
  5. I'm an LVT, (animal nurse) and I took a week. I just avoided lifting anything over like 25# for the next 2.5 weeks. Then I went back to lifting 50+ # animals. I was sore bending over and getting up from the lower cages, but nothing to bad. At day 4 post op I was starting to get real bored at home, and I felt I could've gone back on like day 5.
  6. At 1500 calories your body will not go into starvation made. Most of the people here eat around 1200. Some like 800-1100. I consider starvation mode to be around 600 calories. Your body might stall after some weight naturally just giving itself time to adjust. The lap band will work how you choose to let it, it won't stop you from eating a cheeseburger and fries. In time, once it's adhered right it should tell you, I'm satisfied, I've eaten enough. It won't physically stop you from eating (not unless you have it to tight, which isn't good). When I had good restriction in the beginning (it's seemed to wear off, now I need to get fills to get back to it) I wasn't hungry for about 4-5 hours and then my stomach would grumble and let me know I was hungry. So I've never had zero hunger, but that is what it is supposed to do. Yes you'll have plateaus, also you may not lose much the first 6 weeks due to healing and, in my eyes, starvation mode, since I was only supposed to eat small amounts and it took til week 5 to get my calories back to over 1000. So I hope this helped
  7. You lost 15 # in 5 days! Your body needs to adjust to that. Also some people dint Lise on very low calorie diets. Like me, I could lose for the first week pre op then nothing until I got my calories back up to 1100-1200. So you know the first 6 weeks post op is about weight loss, don't get frustrated if you stall in your weighloss during this time
  8. I eat in like 15 minutes. I'm an LVT in the ER, and some days I'm lucky if I even get a break. Which is one reason I'd never allow myself to get so tight, because it's either eat quick or don't eat ...lol
  9. Definitely fills don't make you lose weight. I didn't have my first fill til 5 months post op. Now I'm still hungry amost of the time bug I'm still losing weight because I portion my food and only eat that. I try to curb my hunger with water. I need to make an appointment for another fill to help curb my hunger. So, really it's up to you if you lose weight or not. If you fill your hunger with food, you probably won't lose, but if you do other things to help curb it. You'll lose
  10. Well I was bored at home, I live alone with my 2 dogs. We had a big snowstorm during the night and I even dug my car out from under a foot of snow (which I probably should not have done) but I was bored. Also I only went back for a day then Tuesday and Wednesday are my normal days off. Yes, I agree, there are temptations at work. I went back to the gym at 2 weeks post op. Now I do kickboxing 6 days a week
  11. I had surgery on Monday, and went back the folowing Monday. I have a physical job, I'm an LVT. I just didn't lift any dogs over 25# for the next 2.5 weeks
  12. I haven't told many people. 3 people at work know and my immediate family. I'm a very private person. Peopl obviously know I'm losing weight. And I've been asked a few times how much I've lost. I say I'm keeping that to myself. A couple times people have been like, you must've lost at least _ #. Really? If I said I didn't want to tell you (in a nicer way) why must you guess.
  13. I have had no problems with my band. Did not even get my first fill til 5 months post op. If your doc pushes to fill mist, you need a new one. Not once during my post op visits did my dic or PA even bring up a fill. It wasn't til I said I was feeling hungrier that my doc gave me one. Since I only have a tiny fill and am still a bit hungry, yet still losing though, makes me feel I could have done this without surgery and I just needed a good kick in the ass. But since I have this tool now, I'm going to utilize it and get another fill when I go in next time, which I really need to make an appointment for
  14. Unfortunately, if she's not ready to make the decision you can't force her. Like 6 years ago I was focused on getting bypass. I chickened out of it and didn't even think about the band. I guess I wasn't ready for a drastic decision. I was ready to lose weight I joined Jenny Craig and lost 70# (in 3 years ). So SHE has to be ready
  15. Agreed with brbm6. I use livestrong.com and the iPhone app. I am with the mindset, I can have a cookie, I just track it and cut back on something else during the day.
  16. 6 weeks out, I think I was only down 11lb. So you're ahead of me....lol. I lost 9 lb the first week then 2 week 5-6. Once I started eating a normal amount of calories (1200), with the exercise i was doing I started losing again.
  17. My goal weight is at the high end of the bmi chart. I'm 5'2", so I chose 135lb. That may change along the way. Maybe lower, not sure.
  18. I don't know why you're doc said you cant have the surgery. Many of us here had hiatal hernias and they were fixed when they did the lab band surgery. Yes, if they don't fix it, it can cause problems, but as long as he fixed it no problem. I had one that I don't think they even saw on the EGD, and after surgery I was told about it and it was repaired
  19. Honestly it all depends on where u lose/ gain weight. One time I lost weight, I was in a 2x at a certain weight. Then I gained and all the weight seemed to go to my butt, so when I lost again it took longer for me to get to a 2x
  20. Congrats! I hit 199 today too! It feels so great!
  21. You're right. It is worth it, just bought it and it's downloading now. Hope I like it!
  22. Hmm... Looks interesting, at $7.99 I'm gonna have to think about it though
  23. I've been debating getting one for months, in fact I was just searching eBay to see if they had good priced ones. I can't justify it's retail cost right now. I've been using my polar heart rate monitor for years now for workouts, but lately the more I look at it the more I see HR 00. So obviously it is not trustworthy anymore. I'd Also like to see my daily calories burned. But I don't know if I'd be comfortable wearing it on my arm all the time. Ive also considered the fit bit, but I can't see how it'd be accurate.
  24. It depends on your doc. They should've gave you a diet Plan that lists what you can have at what stage. You can't go by what people here say for this, since every doc does it different
  25. I had to do liquids after my fill too, two days and it was so much harder than pre/post op. They wanted me to stay on mushies too for 2 days, then ground/chopped for 2 days. I got up to one and a half days of mushies and went to regular fiod
