  1. That is so awesome....way to go!
  2. I went through a period where I was taking two Prilosec a day and it still wasn't helping, I tried Nexium and nothing. I went to the doctor and he prescribed me a month of Dexilant which he said is twice as strong as the highest mg of Nexium. Once it got the acid under control (that happened very quickly) I took the medicine for a month but since I was getting ready to go out of town and I didn't want to risk not having the meds he gave me two more weeks. I came home ran out of the meds and have not taken a PPI in over three weeks now. He said it was one of the newest strongest PPI's. Maybe bring it up to your physician?
  3. My chin is on my chest, I am literally gawking. How your doctor can say that it is normal to be able to eat a half a medium pizza basically because you were distracted.....UHHH I don't think so. I don't have plication I just have the sleeve but I can barely get two slices of very small non thick crust pizza down. If it is a large slice of pizza I can get most of it down if it isn't too thick crusted and I feel like I eat more then a lot of sleevers. If I tried to get more then two small pieces down I would immediately feel that up in my neck. I went to Chili's yesterday and ate 4 bites of salad and about 6 tortilla chips and by the time my enchilada soup came I ate about 6 small bites of it and had to take the rest home because I felt like it was up in my chest (proof I ate too much of it). It really sounds like your plication restriction is not very good. You already know you are hungry and are making some bad choices but you shouldn't be able to overeat with that much quantity, it would be more likely with grazing and eating calories constantly. I think if you continue to feel like that you should see about getting a barium test or something to see how big your sleeve is and how much it can hold. Keep us posted.
  4. I just have to say that these "little" victories is what it is all about, just us becoming more conscious of our choices and habits. You did wonderful even though I know it is not easy or pleasant at times. Your weight loss has been awesome so it is apparent that though you claim you had a couple slip ups, you are staying on track and working your sleeve. I wish you the best! Big hugs.
  5. Patrick, welcome to the forum! Congrats on starting your research. Keep us posted on your journey I just wanted to give you a quick hello shout out.
  6. Heck ya that is good! I have two months on you and I have only lost around 41 pounds and I have only lost 3 pounds the last 5 weeks. Those were my fault though, I have been a lazy butt. You are doing great, I know that almost 40 pounds makes a huge difference. I grabbed a pair of dress slacks from my closet today because I was going to go apply for a part time job at a local school and I had not had my dress pants on since last February when I resigned from my county job. HOLY COW those things slipped off my waist and were down around mid thigh, if I didnt have such booty it would have fallen straight down to my ankles. My husband was like DAMN those kinda don't fit huh? YA THINK?
  7. Yay Tiffy, new babies! Good samaritan you are. I too did not work out today but that is because I am lame...no really lol I am doing my six mile mountain trek tomorrow and I wanted to be fresh. Plus I just plain wanted to get some stuff done around the house. Good job all of you that did something for yourself and others today!
  8. I too had some major post surgical blues, mood swings, fits of psychosis whatever you want to call them lol. I was tired and up in down in my moods for about the first 12 weeks. I have noticed the last week has been the best one as far as my mental stability is concerned.
  9. I stopped getting notifications last week sometime and was kinda digging it but last night suddenly around midnight or so my cell phone started buzzing non-stop for an hour and all the notifications I had not gotten the last 6 days poured in. I had to finally put my cell on silent to get some sleep. I went in today and changed my settings to no longer get the notifications emailed to me. My email is a lot less cluttered up with it not coming in! hehe. Buchanan: i can totally understand why you want to avoid talking about where it is being done. I only told a handful of people where I was going to get it done period. Most of those were family and I dreaded telling a couple of them where it was at so if they didn't ask i didnt tell until we came back. HEHE. Then my mom who went with me and is an RN has been the first to tell them how impressed she was with the facility and the doctors. But yes I didn't want to have to justify my actions to anyone. I felt like I had done my research and they were not going to change my mind either way. Best wishes.
  10. I pulled up a couple of EDD documents, basically it reads that a physician has to be duly authorized and licensed and it talked about for elective disability plans the employers could request verification of forein doctors licensing. So it sounds to me that as long as it is a licensed physician who fills out and certifies the procedure, the disability, the duration and the CPT code it would be acceptable. Here is the link to the guide for the physicians, it lists which doctors can fill out the paperwork it just says licensed it doesn't say it had to be an american license etc: PDF form • File a certificate of disability signed by a duly authorized medical or religious practitioner.
  11. Yup shooting pain not good better to be safe then sorry. On the sinus infection note though, have you ever tried nasal washing? My son has battled allergies since he was an infant and was on a ton of prescription meds since age of two and finally when I switched his pediatrician to someone closer he was adamant that the best way for him to clear up sinus issues and get relief was to do daily nasal washing. There is the Netti Pot out there but his doc suggested Neil Med nose wash system you can pick it up at Walgreens and other pharmacy type stores with the solution packets. The kid was getting a sinus infection every two months or so and since he has started on the washing he has only needed an antibiotics 2 times in 3 years. I wish I had known this for the first 9 years of his life. It is amazing. So the last time I started getting a really bad sinus thing going on, I picked one up for me and it immediately soothed and opened up the passages and washing out all the icky. I used it about 5 weeks post op and got some relief until things cleared up. Just thought I would share as it is that time of the year and it has been a miracle worker. Simple yet affective!
  12. I was generally sore and uncomfortable around the stomach, chest and up into my shoulder area for 4 days or so, then it seem to start being less noticeable. Once I was back at home in my own comforts it felt so much better. I think it is totally mental. You are doing awesome though because seriously on day two I wasn't in pain but I was just exhausted and the tv in my room did not get turned on ONCE. I just wanted to sleep though it was hard to get good rest. I had to make myself do my walking and breathing treatments. They did give you a spirometer to blow in, right? That is very very important so you don't get pneumonia. That would really make a persons chest feel like crap. I am impressed too that you get a video of your procedure. That is one confident doctor. I likey! I jealous too.
  13. Yup, I live in California and when I had a tummy tuck three years ago my doctor filled out the disability paperwork and I got SDI for 6 weeks. I think the reason they are so generous with it is because you actually pay into those benefits. I was shocked that I could get disabilty pay for an elective procedure but when I researched it online I found the confirmation they would cover it and once submitted even with the CPT code they didn't hesitate on the claim You will have one week waiting period before your entitled to benefits. So if they will cover it for an elective procedure I am sure they do it for a medically necessary weight loss procedures. You can also get the benefits if you are not working but worked in the previous 18 months and are NOT getting unemployment.
  14. I am also crossing my fingers, I felt your dissapointment when you posted about your denial. It sounded like you had everyone that would qualify a person for the surgery so the fact that some paperwork got lost/misplaced is not surprising but certainly an easily corrected error! So yay for you and best wishes.
  15. Yay, everyone is jumping on the motivation train! Chilo, I seriously would have stayed at home today too vegging out if I hadn't wanted to follow through with my commitment on this thread. So I went to bible study then went to the gym! 55 minutes on the stair climber/cybex burned 402 calories (gotta have the two)!
  16. There is a measurement they take to decide if you will need a lift. I am posting a link that gives an illustration of how to measure that and explains further. Be warned of course DONT PULL UP AT WORK! It is a plastic surgeon website and has naked breast pictures! DONT OPEN AT WORK! Breast lift calculations. When I hit the link on the implant inquiry I had no idea where it was for, then I got the follow up contact and was a little concerned. I was going to contact Dr. Pompa's office about it too, I know the huge twin towers she is in houses a ton of different types of doctors and offers services. Plus, she offered a certain discount for plastics if if I kept in contact with her office during my recovery. I think makemeheal website has lots of info on doctors even in Mexico, I figure if I could trust myself to go have 85% of my tummy removed I could research enough to go there to the right doctor for implants. I would totally trust Dr. Aceves recommendations too, it is early in the game I can already feel myself obsessing over it like I did when I got a tummy tuck and like for this surgery. My husband just rolled his eyes and was like well I guess thats what we will be buying next. LOL.
  17. I couldn't agree more Brian, I noted that if left unchecked I could graze my way into some serious calories! I jumped back on the bandwagon yesterday morning and am going to try a different approach for the Christmas holiday. At least though we are aware of it and find it unacceptable. That is a good sign that we are conscious of our eating and not just shoveling things in without a thought of the consequences.
  18. Never looked but you know Walmart has a cheaper priced alternative for just about every item under the sun! Worth a try.
  19. Warrior, first off welcome to the forum you will get lots of good information here to sort through. I am sorry you have had such issues from trying to get approved but at least in this case they are really trying to figure out with your disease how healthy each choice would be instead of just deny deny deny. I do not have information about anyone having Crohns and having VSG or Sleeve surgery. There are quite a few band to sleeve revision patients here that can give you tons of info. I think there is also a specific thread topic for just that class of sleevers. I hope you find someone that can help you answer those questions, but I just wanted to welcome you to the site. I am about 4 months out and don't regret the surgery one bit. I am glad I did not go through with the lap band (lapbandtalk) is where I actually found out about this procedure and quickly moved over here. Your situation is different though with your disease and there is an ask the doctor thread here and we get some great responses from some wonderful doctors regarding different scenarios. You may try asking for some info there!
  20. Congrats on making it to the losers bench..ye haw! Sorry you are having pain and nausea issues, hopefully with the introduction of a little water you will feel more satisfied and hydrated and get some better rest. Keep us posted and your hubby sounds like a doll. I could use a little foot massage myself!
  21. NewNat I am so glad that you are taking the VSG plunge. I have no doubt you will be extremely successful and though it takes some work you sound like a strong woman who will get the job done. We all had the night before jitters it is pretty usual, just take a long warm bath and try to relax. Your gonna do great. Post as soon as you feel able to and try to walk every hour even if it is a short distance. I had a routine in the hospital I would get up and walk (i didn't get too far), I would go to the bathroom while up, come back to the bed and do my breathing exercises (I HATED that dang spirometer) then lay back down and take a nap and start the process over like every hour and fifteen minutes. It got easier and easier.
  22. MissDiva: I think that is why it was so weird for me to see. I had not allowed any full body pics to be taken of me in forever. I would hide behind people if someone came at me with a camera. Thank you though. It was just so....raw and not posed.... it was shocking for me!
  23. Well, I only have one quote for $3000 for cohesive gel implants but I know I would need a lift with it so I am waiting on that price. I am thinking that is pretty cheap and I will have to find out more about the doctor. It was through Mt. Zion group and well that concerns me a bit.
  24. Ok last month I posted my pre-op and my pics thus-far in my journey. I think I stated on the post that the pics were taken in June and I ended up not having surgery until middle of August and had gained 14 more pounds between those dates, but I didn't have pictures reflecting that weight. Well, I sent my recent pics to the doctor as a testimony for her facility and I was sent a very sweet thank you for my correspondence and they attached my surgery day pre-op pics. WOAH, I was surprised when I saw those puppies...I thought I would share them with ya!
