  1. My first fill is OCT 8th. I am tracking all of my calories and walking, but I am honestly feeling discouraged too. I really do understand why it is called bandster hell. So frustrating.
  2. I told myself as long as I lost 1-2lbs a week I would be happy, but the truth is I do get discouraged when I see people at 2 weeks post-op with a 30lb loss and I have only lost 15 and ten of that was on the pre-op diet. I have no real advice to give, just saying I feel your pain.
  3. Everyone let us know how you are doign as you get to your pre-op diets and surgery. I am in the middle of my pre-op diet and it is really difficult. I am trying to hang in there.
  4. I am getting banded Aug 23rd - my birthday!
  5. Hi everyone! My name is Marie and I am scheduled for August 25th. I really wanted the 23rd because that will be my 30th birthday, but it is also my surgeon's birthday and he wanted it off, lol. I have been working on this since April and I am so excited that that I finally have a date. I have very severe sleep apnea and until readign this thread didn't think about bringing my machine to the hospital. Glad I read that. We should develop a general list of things you *might* need to take.
  6. That does sound excessive. If you are self-pay for any of these appointments I would tell them one psych eval will have to be enough. Say "I've done a lot of research into other practices in the area and this seems excessive. The standard requirement is one evaluation. What specific reasons does your practice have for requiring more?" If the answer is "We just do." Say "I am paying for these appointments and I need an explanation as to why they are needed."
  7. I have decided to document my LapBand journey on youtube. I was inspired my so many other people who have already done this. I am doing it for accountability as well as hoping I can help someone the way watching others has helped me. I love this board and have gotten so much good advice here that I wanted to post a link to my youtube channel. I couldn't think of any better group to be accountable to! YouTube - TexasGirlBand's Channel
  8. I am glad you persevered - and you will be too!
  9. I had my initial appointment with the surgeon today and now I only need to meet with the dietitian and psychologist. I am so relieved! It is really stressful to be in limbo; now I can focus on what I need to do pre-op.
  10. So sorry to hear how frustrating it is. I'm glad it did work out though.
  11. I couldn't get by without his support. With everything (and everyone) else I deal with at least I know he loves me.
  12. No one is a support group should single out a few individuals and bully them, especially the psychologist. If the Dr feels particular patients would be better served by GB during a support group (a group you go to for support) would not be the appropriate place to make that assertion. It certainly isn't professional.
  13. We will be together 15 years this August  I'm glad to know there are others out there like him - it gives me hope for my daughters.
  14. That is totally out of line. It is not his job to recommend ANY medical procedure over another.
  15. I put on some Jellies from last year this morning. When Hubby got home from work he asked what happened. I looked down and saw that my foot had stretched one of the shoes and it was broken. I made a sad face and said "My foot is fat and it exploded the Jelly." Hubby realized I actually was a bit embarrassed and said "Well, I didn't want to tell you but a few minutes ago I passed gas and I think it might have melted your shoe."
  16. Maybe you should get a basket and tell her it is for all of her treats because you normally don't eat that way and didn't really know where to put the stuff. Get a deep basket and put it on top of the fridge and that will help keep things out of sight.
  17. I called Tricare and asked if the wait was too long could I go offbase and they said yes if the clinic at NMCP released my referral. I would like to get the surgery done onbase, but in a reasonable amount of time. I know that it used to be years, but I've heard the wait is significantly shorter lately.
  18. Yeah, the one time I'm glad I have sleep apnea....
  19. It went really well. I love the Dr. I have. His father is the same kind of Dr and so is his brother. I think that is kind of awesome. Anyway, my sleep study is scheduled for May 5th and the follow-up is May 14th. I wish it could be sooner because I know I will feel so good after getting a CPAP machine and a real night of sleep. Does anyone know if I will get the machine from the specialist or my PCM? How long does it take to get the machine? I am Tricare Prime BTW. I am feeling so good about moving forward and getting out from under all this literal and figurative weight.
  20. I was fortunate enough to be spared being a heavy child, but my mother was very large when I was a kid. She would always tell me about all the plans she had for when she lost weight, what she would do and who she would go see. I could never understand why she would wait to live until she was thin (which only came in her 40s and via a self-destructive route). When I started to gain as an adult, I remembered what my mom had been through and knew I would never let the weight make me feel like a bad person. It has, however, shown me what bad people other can sometimes be.
  21. We were eating at Texas Road House and my daughter picked up a round peanut and said "this is the same shape as you". A few months before she had told me "Mommy, it's ok. You aren't the only fat lady in the neighborhood. You know, Miss Christy.." She was trying to be sweet but it came out in such a bad way.
  22. I am just starting my journey with this. We are military too. The Bariatric clinic at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth told me BMI 35 with co morbidity or 40 without. HTH
  23. I am using Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in VA. I had heard that it was very difficult to get a network provider, but I am willing to check it out. I got a referral for the sleep apnea the same day I got the referral for the Lap Band. I have to call tomorrow and make an appointment for a sleep study.
