  1. PeaCeJ, Congrats on your band! I too will be banded in Dover on 1/30. However, I have Dr. Abkin. How did you like the bariatric center there? I've been incredibly pleased with their women's center. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated; especially any heads up so I know what to expect. Again, congrats. Wow...just think how great things will be!!!!
  2. I think this is such a personal issue. So many things dependant upon returning to work such as commute time, type of work, flexibility with dress code, and overall Doctors 'say so'. I'm going to take 2 weeks; as disability is covering it.
  3. In my private messages, I just found the email address to get a bracelet from Allergen/Inamed: write to Don_Mills@allergen. Supposedly they are free, and take about a month or so to get. I wrote today, we'll see what happens...I would like one, for sure. I'm not a fan of purple, so the teal from the manufacturer may be the way to go for me.
  4. Does anyone have the information on how to get the teal colored 'bandsters' bracelet? I tried it once from here; but never got my bracelet. ***The kind that Lance Armstrong made famous for cancer; but these are for bansters
  5. To all of todays Bandsters....We're thinking of you!!!! :kiss2:
  6. I understand that the issue would be extra air being swallowed, but that would only happen if I'm careless. I use a straw for everything, trying to break myself of them now.
  7. Funny, I told my Grandmother I'm having a cyst removed from INSIDE my belly; hence the liquids afterwards.
  8. Alexandra, You and I have the same surgeon. I was not told 'don't go crazy'...which I haven't, but i also went through the holidays with the 'last supper' mentality, making sure I ate what i wanted. Of course I stayed away from the sweets; the diabetes made sure of that. I'm going to get onto a low carb diet pre-op. I have my preop class this Wedensday and see what they suggest I do for the few days prior to surgery.
  9. Hi Kelsy, I have an office *BI**H*, who is nosey, and minds everyones business; a real know it all - and does the whole office gossip thing time and again. SHE is the only reason that I'm not telling anyone. I may tell them in a few months after I start loosing. My fear is that she'll 'out' me...she's got ways of nosing into things, she'll contact someone who knows someone, etc. I've seen her do it. Uhhhhhhh, I can't stand working with her. She's the one - who when I'm making a phone call, will hear me on the phone saying something to my mom, dad, boyfriend, whomever - then have the NERVE to comment on it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, she's really bad. So, if anyone out there works with SUE...beware! LOL Ahhhhhh, that's liberating! hehehehe I've told my parents boyfriend and best friends - thats' more than enough. I will say when I told the peole at work I was going out for a couple of weeks, one girl asked "Are you going out for stomach stapling'? I said no - b/c I'm not. But I was a little horrified. Then again, she and I did have the conversation one time. Still was embarrassing.
  10. Hey all, My doctor said I didn't have to do a 'pre-op' diet. So, I've just been pretty much eating what I want; nothing outrageous, not gorging myself either. But I just read on here how someone had to resort to 'open' surgery, b/c their liver was too heavy for the doctor to lift laproscopicaly!! So now, I'm in a panic, b/c I've totally ignored all the 'preop diet' posts; figureing they didn't apply to me. I have about 17 days until surgery on 1/30. I want to do something on my own, in terms of a pre op diet. Any suggestions? I mean, I was thinking of doing something like all soups, or protein shakes, plus one meal. Ok...I'm totally in a panic you guys. I'm afraid my liver will be too fat (like the rest of me). Even if it's just for a week prior to surgery, I still have some time left, right? I can not understand why some doctors require it while others dont??? I mean, he's the doc, he knows best...but just from reading here - he's definately not the norm. I think I'd feel better if I had a pre op diet assigned to me. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!:faint: :faint:
  11. BabyGotBack... I saw that DVD on a late night infommercial; but wasn't sure if it would be too difficult! Tell me what you think of it!!!
  12. I truly envy and admire those folks I see jogging every day, at home, at work, whereever. They get a 'runners high'. I would love to feel what they're talking about. How come these folks don't make excuses? Why do they have the time that i don't? I hope that the weight that will be coming off will increase my energy level enough to get me into a routine.
  13. I figured the only way to be sure to excercise is to make it fun. So.......I bought a trampoline. Yes, you heard right! Not a big giant one, but a personal sized one. I may look a little foolish; but it will be 'fun'...I could do that!!!:phanvan
  14. Get it now...keep in mind there will be a 'mad dash' being that it's a requirements as of 1/23/07!
  15. I've made a deal with myself; unless it's under $10 on clearance - I don't buy it! Simple as that. You may not think that $10 goes a long way...but with Lord & Taylor, Macys, coupons, Marshalls, TJ Maxx...you'd be VERY surprised at all the designer duds I've been buying in smaller sizes. Not sure WHEN I can wear them, but I know I will. After an ever so wise woman on here advised me; STOP buying shoes, as they'll get too big as well.
  16. I too am guilty of writing the 'organizational' posts. I have also solicited for some ideas on how best to organize. This could really work!
  17. I finally have TWO Surgery twins!!!!! Sunshine2, you were right, they WERE out there!!!! Welcome Texas Bighair and GIGI8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the January 30th Court of Royals!!! :faint:
  18. I never would be going through with this if it weren't for all of the 'real life' information that I've learned here. Thank you all!
  19. Well, I let my HR and Benefits department know today; and I prefilled my disability claim for the time I'm out of the office. Pre-Admission called me from my hospital as well. So this is really it! Just a bit more than two weeks away! Now...what will my last supper be?????? lol:eek:
  20. Two nights ago I had a conversation with my best girlfriend about me getting the band. This is the girl who told me that this was silly, I can just do WW again, blah blah. Long story short, I was able to tell her about my knowledge, my seminars I've gone to and support groups. In the end - she's now completley behind me. Worried about me, sure - but supports my decision!!!!! I'm thrilled about it. What I'd like to do is email her a link that can explain the Band in 'laymans' terms. Something simple and easy for her to understand. Any suggestions?
  21. Hey everyone, Thanks for the input. I think I will choose to stay. I'm very 'new' to the diabetes, just diagnosed the last 6 weeks or so. Not yet on insulin, but the medications that they have put me on, PLUS new meds for my blood pressure - are making me have 'weak' or 'dizzying' episodes. I think just being monitored overnight; and hopefully progressing from clear liquids to protein shakes might be the thing for me! I'll see the Doc next Wednesday at my 'pre-op' class - I'll tell them then.
  22. After getting my approval yesterday, I kind of 'froze'. I'm not sure when I should tell my H.R. Department that I'll be out for a bit. (I qualify for Short Term Disability). So I'll probably take the two weeks. Mostly b/c I'll have to adjust to everything, and with my diabetes, not eating, and my blood pressure going up and down…I want to be regulated before driving 1.5 hours to work and back every day. Any opinions on this? I called BC/BS who said I certainly am approved, and for ONE Night Hospital stay. My surgeon didn't mention this; I'm assuming b/c most folks do not stay over night. The insurance woman told me I should have been notified. However…if my insurance approved it, and is going to pay for it - I WANT to stay overnight. I want to have access to the nurses, watching my blood sugars, etc., not to mention I may feel more comfortable knowing if anything is wrong, I'll be in the right place. Should I mention it to my surgeon that I want to stay overnight?
  23. I got my approval from Blue Cross/Blue Shield NJ! I am now officially, undoubtedly, positively, "THE QUEEN OF JANUARY 30"! LOL…as me on January 31…and I may feel more like a 'jester'…black and blue!!! hehehehehe
  24. Now we've allllllllllllllll heard this: "You have such a pretty face". UGH!!!!! :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint:
  25. Sushi is one of the things that really worried me; knowing or thinking I'd have to give it up all together. Knowing this, I 'tested' sushi made with 'soy paper' instead of with seaweed (which would be horrible going down). Also, just ask your sushi chef if they can make it with very little rice - if any at all! Trust me, the taste is still delicious!:hungry:
