  1. I agree, you are doing great. As you said you know, you should probably only get on the scale once a week. It's hard know. I managed to do it while I was loosing. Then in maintainance I weighed in every day. Didn't help, I put back on 45 pounds of the 107 I lost. Neve thought that would happen! I have had a good week so am optomistic. I have decided to comprimise and get on the scale every 3-4 days. Maybe that would work for you.
  2. Yes, seems like you need a slight unfill. Talk with your surgeon about how your doing and decide together how much to remove. Feel better soon!
  3. Your surgeon or a nurse practioner will do fills. About once a month until restriction then it will depend on how you are feeling (hunger between meals, how much you can eat at once et..). You should see your pcp regularly if you are on meds for diebeties, high blood pressure , cholesteral. He/she will be the one to make adjustments for things like that. This has been my experience, and I think it's pretty typical. Congrats on your surgery.
  4. I think that's great! You are probably the one who has typically done the shopping and cooking. It's your responsibility to provide healthy choices for the whole family. Like you said, they probably won't notice the difference a whole lot. I live alone so as far as what's in the house, it's not a big deal. Now that I have gotten over the buy one get one free crap at the store, I only keep healthy things in the house. When I go out with friends, they eat what they want, it's never even come up that they would do anything different. It's funny, but drinking is different. One of the guys I am dating stopped drinking in front of me when I got banded. I told him he didn't have to but he still won't. I guess part of it is it's no fun to drink a lone.
  5. I am struggling too. I lost 107 pounds and gained back 45. Never thought that would happen. I have had a good few days and was ok with the scale this morning. I have been scared to get on it. I hope I am back on track once and for all. If I loose 30 or so of the weight I gained I think I'll be happy, but not sure. I've been told by people close to me that I got too thin, not so sure about that and I have a beautiful wardrobe I'd like to fit into again. Well, that's where I'm at, thanks for listening.
  6. I agree with people saying hairloss is due to rapid weight loss. I started loosing hair 3-4 months postop. I went to the dermatologist, much to my relief he told me I would not go bald. He said your body goes into kind of a shock with the weight loss. It stopped coming out about 2 months later. I was lucky to start with a pretty thick head of hair.
  7. I am glad you are getting an unfill. Congrats on the weight loss but you may not be doing it the healthiest way. You need more than cottage cheese and smoothies to get all the nutrition you need. You are right to be concerned about being that far away while you are so tight. I would get an unfill and leave it there when you get back and see how you do.
  8. I think you should be fine. I have flown several times, with no problems. I would be concerned if you were going away, right after the fill. You want to be around incase your fill is too much and you need to go back to the surgeon and have a bit taken out. 5 days is plenty of time for that.
  9. As far as a slip- as long as you can keep things down I think your fine. My surgeon said if there is a slip you suddenly can't keep anything down. Not even water. Good luck
  10. I second the posts that talk about addiction. I think you should seek counseling or some other help for addiction. It seems you have traded one addiction for another, it's known as addiction transfer. It's a serious thing. I am afraid you are going down a slippery slope. Be carefull! Keep us posted on how you are doing. All the best wishes to you.
  11. EAS is a brand of premade protien shakes. I don't know what it stands for. I get them at walmart. I have also seen the version with carbs at sams.
  12. I have struggled lately too. I had 3 vacations almost back to back and it threw me out of wack for sure. I have "gotten with the program" the last 3 days. I have found excersise to be a key factor. It's tough to get started again I know. I have backed off on the speed of the treadmill and it has made it doable. Also, I find I get hungry around 3ish so I go to the gym then. It gets me out of the house and reduces my hunger. Good luck!
  13. You got good advice at your docs office. I am surprised he only did .5 cc, that's not much. However, that being said, I hope it does the trick. Deff. eat your protien and don't drink with or after meals. Let us know how you are doing post fill.
  14. Take things slow. See how things go down. In the liquid stage I had 3 protien drinks a day. I didn't limit water at all. You want to get at least 60 gms protien a day. I chose EAS because they have 20 g protien, and are low in fat. They also have carb control is you are looking to stick to a low carb diet. I get them at walmart. You probably won't have problems, since your band is not filled. Don't be surprised is hunger creeps in in a few days. It's what's known as bandster hell. The time after surgery but before you get enough fluid in your band to have restriction. Congrats on your surgery!
  15. For me, when I have gotten off track I wait a few days to weigh myself. Somehow I just don't want to see the number I think it will be. Guess there is some denial going on there, but I have gotten back on track without seeing that scary number.
  16. I have been overweight most of my life. Weight was like a roller coaster. Always either gaining or loosing. I was banded 11/16/09. I lost 107 pounds in 10 months. That was eating ultra low carb and low fat and working out just about everyday. I have regained about 40 of that loss. I am struggling to get back on track. I think when we want to loose weight we want it gone yesterday. It just doesn't work like that. This time I am eating a balanced diet, still excersising. I feel like I never really learned to eat like a "normal" person. What I am saying is patience is key. Find a healthy diet you can stick to for the long haul. I have done the just shakes thing and couldn't stick to it (except the post op diet) and ended up feeling deprived and bingeing.
  17. I would call your surgeons office and ask. Keep in mind the calories alchohol has, and they are empty ones. Also, I know for me it causes me to overeat/eat things I normally wouldn't. My advice- stay away from it.
  18. As already said, you may or may not have excess skin. It depends on many factors such as age, genetics, pregnancy, weight flucuations through your life et... I strongly advice keeping the weight off for a year before getting surgery. I just couldn't wait and am sorry. I gained back about 40 pounds since my tt. I got too thin, so I am hopeing if I loose 25 ish I won't have sagging skin again. I also got a face lift, which I am not sure I would have needed if I was just a bit heavier. good luck!
  19. Hang in there, it usually takes a few fills to get restriction, for me it was my third. I hope that is the case with you. 15 pounds in 3 months is really right on track. That's a little over a pound a week if I am doing my math right. We can expect to loose 1-2 pounds a week. That's great your working out, keep it up. The scale will reward your hard work, just try to be patient. I know that it's hard. How often are you weighing yourself? You might want to try just getting on the scale once a week or so, if it's discouraging you to get on the scale it's not helpfull. Good Luck!
  20. I went to the dermatologist when I started loosing hair. I too was lucky to start will a thick head of hair. He said your body goes into kind of a shock from rapid weight loss. He said it would stop, and it did. My hairloss started about 4 months post op and lasted until about 6 months post op.
  21. I think you are doing just fine actually. I have suggested to others that they focus on eating the right foods and portion control will come with restriction. Right now, with no fill it's pretty much like your not banded. It will get better!
  22. My hair started to fall out about 4-5 months post op. I was lucky to start with a thick head of hair. I went to the dermatologist, and much to my relief he said I wouldn't go bald. He said the body goes into kind of a shock after rapid weightloss. It stoped for me about 3 months later. Hope it stops for you too.
  23. I eat it with fiber one for breakfast. I add a splenda because the yougurt is a little tangy for me. Ranch dressing for veggies is a great idea.
  24. I hope staying at my parents for 5 days will help me get back on track. My parents are very supportive and eat healthy as a lifestyle. I had 2 vacations almost back to back and that's been tough. Actually, I was having a tough time before that. Anyway a "detox" isn't why I came but I hope it will be a bonus. 2 good days so far.
  25. Lots of good advice already given. I generally stick to a lean meat and veggie when I go out to eat. If it comes with a starch and I don't want it, I ask for extra veggies. Never had a problem with that. For me, there are a few resturaunts in my area that I know has a dish I like. I love Ruby Tuesdays Creole catch. It's broiled fish and comes with zuchinni and spaggetti squash. They say on the menue it's about 350 calories. A little higher in cals then most my meals, but I see no harm once in a while. I stay away from mexican even though I love it. The chips are a killer and nothing very band friendly on the menu. I like a chinese resteraunt that has a "diet menu." They are steamed dishes with a sauce on the side. Usually shrimp or chicken. Not all have this option but I have found several that do. Many resteraunts have there menu online. You can check it out and see if there is anything appropriate. Also, planning ahead can make it easier not to succumb to the temptation of the "bad" stuff. Hope this helps.
