  1. Green used to have really thick hair before being banded. Living under her mop was kinda like being trapped living under a duvet at dreadfully high temperatures. It was Not So Nice, eh??? and thus Green was left feeling like a pretty bitter grrl during the summer months. New things have been happening with respect to the top of Green's head. The mostest atrocious is that she seems to have lost a lot of her fabulous hair growth. This really is a shocker for Greeen! She had become used to living with truly excessive amounts of hair and now she suddenly finds that this is no longer something upon which she can count. She has found herself growing uneasy about the current situation and has even tried warning her significant other that her hair count is rapidly plummetting but it seems that the dude is, well, very much in denial. He still thinks that Green is still blessed with a whole bunch a vigourous head woolies. Aah, love is blind. Insh'allah (don't you know it, and thanks be to the One who created both silly love and tweezers).
  2. What's the difference between God and a bunch of doctors? God doesn't think that he is a doctor. Sorry to hear about your very bad set-back. Please keep your friends in the loop.
  3. Yowie zowie! I never heard this! Yet another reason to ask for Ativan. :eyebrows:
  4. Waah! Thanks for weighing in on the brick shit house discussion, eh. :ranger: It has been my observance that men are nowhere nearly as hung up on this biz of thinness as we chicks are. Oh, for sure most men in our culture like women to be on the side of normo or slender but they are nowhere near as blindingly hung-up on a grrl weighing no more than a rice cake as we are. Many men like a little bit of flesh and some men like it a lot. Sexual allure is about much more than just look, you know, it also about touch, and the feel of flesh on flesh is very sensual. Moreover, the presence of flesh indicates to one's primitive mammalian mind that the chosen woman is healthy and able to mate. Makes sense to this mammal.
  5. I find your comments interesting, BJean. I have always been fascinated by genetics and yet at the same time am hampered by the fact that I am an ageing blonde bimbo. Ha ha. This means that my knowledge comes from material written for the layperson. Nevertheless, I have read a considerable amount of material about the genetic component of basic intelligence and personality development and I am aware that a child who is, say, transplanted into a famly environment which is wildly different from her genetic inheritance may well suffer. Let me explain: an academically gifted introvert will do well when she is nurtured by a family of like individuals. An academic introvert is going to feel like both an outsider and a loser should she find herself being raised by a family of party animals and jocks. And let's think of the chubby child who is transplanted into a nest of skinny folk. Adoption can be a wonderful avenue for both the parents and the child. There are, however, potential difficulties.
  6. Thankfully, in Canada abortion is pretty much a non-issue, as it is in France which is where I had my abortion back in the early 80s. Gadget does raise a somewhat interesting question: would I have been willing to see my foetus transplanted into a more accepting womb and thus go on to live a life? I don't know how I would have responded to that offer, to tell you the truth. I only know that I personally wanted nothing to do with pregnancy, childbirth, or motherhood. Indeed, my own feelings on this business bordered on a phobia.
  7. Yah! It is TSP! Thanks. Your bedroom sounds lovely. :biggrin1:
  8. I am so pleased that your band is behaving better now. I guess the next thing on the list is the computer, eh.
  9. This is just a suggestion, eh.
  10. Many people become awful damn sick when forced to loiter around their parental types. This is a result of finding one's own damaged youngself forced to spend Angst on the wall space with parental/progenital types. Urgh!!!!!!!, eh.
  11. Canada is a country which houses any number of needy souls. No specific religious belief has been built into Canada's moral character, is all. Same sex marriage is legal up here, eh. That is life, huh....
  12. Canada is a profoundly secular nation and as a result she sees the resultant clamour of all of these faith-based demands as as being kinda crazee. Belonging among those particular interest groups which must be both recognised and protected by our Canadian Charter of Human Rights. This is why Canada has been one of the first of the nations to recognise same sex marriage. This is also why Canada has been notable in refusing to accept religious pundits as mediators on the Canadian political/civil stage.
  13. Mine is about two inches below the bra line and is dead centre between my breasts. I really like this position because nothing ever presses on it except my fingers when I am playing with it. It also seems to be a very stable location. I don't think that my port will ever flip. Congratulations, Mouse, on your fabulous weight loss. :biggrin1:
  14. Wheetsin's suggestions are good ones. Other ways of saving money are to bring your own lunch to work and to make your own coffee/tea while you are at work. Avoid buying your lunches or anything out of vending machines. Trading down to a smaller, cheaper, more fuel-efficient vehicle will save you money, too. You will save on gas and on insurance premiums. If you live, as I do, in a city with great public transit, give up on the vehicle and you will save yourself a whack of cash. You will also find yourself walking more and that is good for weight loss. Shop sales for clothing and buy your underwear at discount stores. When grocery shopping check out the cost per unit price - bigger is not always cheaper. Always pay cash - never, ever run up credit card debt!!!! And remember, you can save money by shopping in second-hand stores.
  15. What a great site! I've just bookmarked it. Thanks for posting it.
  16. That sounds like a sensible approach.... :biggrin1:
  17. And I thought that it had gone to Roswell.
  18. Televangelists creep me out.
  19. I found that having drinks of hot chicken or beef broth made me feel more like I had just had a meal than anything cold did.
  20. I have painted my various shacks many, many times and it is very easy to do. It is also, just like the other posters have said, boring. Prepping the room will take the major part of your time. If the walls are dirty, greasy, or painted with an oil or glossy paint you will need to first wash them down with a mix of water and TSB. TSB is something that you can find at any paint store - along with lots of excellent advice. If the original paint job was oil paint and you want to switch to latex - and, trust me on this, no one should ever, ever use oil paint on household walls now that we do have excellent latex paints - then you must first use a primer. Once this is dried you can then paint with a latex paint. This is only one part of prepping the room. You will also need to remove or cover your furniture; you will need to mask or remove everything which is currently hanging on or afixed to your walls and this includes electrical outlet covers. Anything you don't want to get paint on - window and door sills, wood panels, baseboards, etc - must be masked with masking tape. And you must cover your floors. At this point, and assuming that you do have your paint roller and your brush (which you will need in order to get into those tight corners), you can start painting. You will be amazed at how quickly you can cover your room with paint once it is prepped and you are ready to go. A few additional hints: for walls and ceiling you should use a matte or eggshell finish; if or when you are painting wood trim (doors, window frames, baseboards, etc.) a semi-gloss is the way you must go. Do indulge yourself in trying out interesting colours and colour combinations: paint is relatively cheap and if it doesn't work you can easily paint over your mistake, and when it does work, well then, you will find the results abolutely glorious! (This is why Green has come to know a fair bit about painting houses. She loves to experiment with colour and does a lot of this.) You mention that you are acquainted with painting on canvas. This would indicate that you are aware of the advantages of working with acrylics/latex over that of working with oils. As to the texture-y walls, this is going to be a pain in the arse for it will take you much, much longer to cover them and you will use up significantly more paint than you would have on a flat surface. Your friend is right; you will need a fluffy roller. You will also find yourself resorting to your brush quite often in order to push that paint into the cheeks of your walls. Do yourself a favour: buy yourself an expensive brush or two and treat them like gold. If you do have to use an oil to latex primer, buy cheap brushes for this from a discount store, and when you are through for the day toss them out. I figure that it this is easier on the environment than washing them in solvents. Latex paints are nice in that they have a quick dry time. You can start mending your newly repainted room fairly quickly. Do bear in mind that the cure time for a latex paint is much longer that its dry time. Don't try washing down your new walls for a least a month after they have been painted. As for the business of paid help, it may surprise you to learn that Green once had an under-the-counter gig to repaint a house. She got the gig while she was laid off from her well-paid union job. She was pretty happy. She needed the money. She had a mortgage to support. She also had a friend who wasn't doing so well and who badly needed the money. "Howzabout we split the work and the cash?" Green said. Now, the reason why I am telling you this story is because I know that there are always folks around who would be happy to do a little grunt work for a bit of cash either over or under the counter. Anyone who needs help with the grunt work of painting or gardening can usually hook up with some decent individual who desperately needs a little spare cash. As for my last couple of tips, well, here they are: view the job as an opportunity for a physical work-out and get yourself some work-out music to listen to; and do take advantage of all the advice which the salesfolks in the paint stores can offer to you. And, by the way, pale green sounds much more sophisticated than boring beige.
  21. I love stories of the stupid.
  22. Thanks for posting these, Mrs. Husker. They are both very funny and at the same time hold great truth. Reading them sure did brighten up my day.
  23. Ha ha. So true. Life was so different back then. I tend to think that it was a healthier environment for kids to grow up in. We were not so protected. We were able to have our little adventures, dreams, and private kid culture. Our lives were less structured and we did spend more time playing outdoors. Being able to get away from adults was real nice; it was also real nice knowing that an adult (usually someone's mum) was available if you needed one. I believe that this freedom allowed us to develop richer interior lives, richer imaginations. Today's kids seem to be all about shopping at the mall.
