  1. I went to Dr. Sloan and had the lapband in November 2009 and he is awesome. He does the sleeve now, we had an x-mas party in December2010 and his fist Sleeve patient was there. I'm not sure on the cost, good luck.
  2. Well said about vomiting. I was so scared to vomit and it's just as you stated.:tongue2:
  3. I just went through this, on Feb. 18th I got my 3rd fill. I was in so much pain when I tried to eat, it felt as if someone was in my stomach cutting me every time I ate. My doc. said to stay on protein shakes and liquides for awhile(till I felt better). Well after about 2-3 weeks I was good to go. I feel great now, just give it some time. Hope this helps, good luck.
  4. I was bandedon on 11/25/09 and I just had my 3rd fill on Feb.18th. I felt the same way u do, it hurt so bad to eat just yogurt or broth (it felt like someone was cutting my insides when I tried to eat). I called my Doc. and he said to give it a few more days, and he was right, I feel great. He said I might be really swollen with this fill. Good luck I hope this helps.
  5. Congrats spaceycasey, that's great about your insurance. I as well had no other problems due to my weight, excapt a high BMI and I just had my band in November. It was the best thing I've ever done for me . I've lost over 40lb so far and 27 inches, I'm loving my band. Good luck and keep us all updated.
  6. Welcome Beatriz, I too was heavy as a child and it just progressed as I got older. I was banded November 25th 2009, and it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I have lost 40 lbs so far and 27 inches. I feel great and people notice I'm losing. It feels great to run into someone I have'nt seen for awhile and have them comment on how good I look. I was on this sight for awhile before I had my band and it answered alot of questions and fears that I had. I hope you get all your questions answered and make the best decision for you. Good luck, let us know how you're doing.
  7. Welcome CMyers, I was also banded in November (25th), I belong to the November knockouts. It's a great group and please check us out. Good luck on this journey. I've had 2 fills so far, and the first fill I noticed a little restriction the first week. But then I was getting hungry before time to eat again. So I just went a week ago and got my second fill, and can I tell the difference. I was suppose to go this thursday for my third fill, but I'm going to reschedule it. So welcome and good luck, any questions feel free to ask.
  8. I am having the same issue, I too got my 2nd fill last week and I am pbing and bringing it back up. But not all my food, I can eat some things and be ok, but I do notice if I try to eat red meat it wont stay down. I too am eating more yogurt, cottage cheese, things like that. Good luck and I hope this goes away or subsides soon.
  9. I was banded on the 25th of Novenber, and like you I had the worse gas pains. I tried the gas x and I walked, walked, walked. Nothing helped, it finally went away around the 4th day. I also had a hernia repaired while the doc was in there, so that didn't help any. I slept in the recliner for 3 nights because it felt like I couldn't breath. I hope your feeling better by now, time was the only thing that helped. Oh and pain pills!:rolleyes2:
  10. Welcome Mel Mel :w00t:, I was just banded on the 25th of November, it so far is going good. I am still hungry at this point (because I haven't been filled yet), but I am sticking to my 2oz. of protein and 1oz of fruit. It's not easy and it is work, but I have lost 30 lbs so far ( including the pre-op diet) I feel better every day. Like you I have been big my whole life, I have always been on diets only to gain it all back plus some.:rolleyes2: Everyone is different and some people don't want to do the work or they assume it's a quick fix, read, read, read. I asked alot of questions and I went to a couple of support meetings to get the info I needed. Good luck, I hope this helped.:w00t:
  11. Hello mom6kids, I as well have 6 kids, 5 at home.:w00t: So my pre-op diet was HARD. I had to drink 5 optifast shakes a day and 1 protein bar. Well I still had to cook for my husband and 5 kids. So I got down 3 shakes a day and my protein bar and I spaced out a slice of cheese here and there and I would have a couple of bites of chicken breast, turkey things like that. I had to loose 15lbs and I lost 22. I did walk a mile every day and do 60 crunches on my balley, but I did it. There were a few other people in my support group that did the same thing. So long story short, you'll be fine. Your'e almost there and it's well worth it. I was banded on the 25th of November and so far so good. Keep us posted.
  12. Welcome, if your'e worried about pai it's not bad at all. The gas pain is the worse for me.:wink2: It took me about 4 months from the beginning to surgery, it would have been sooner, but they were booked. I had a phych. apt. and a physical from my doc. I then had to go to 4 pre-op meetings (1 a week) and do a pre-op diet. I lost 22lbs on the pre-op alone. They say after a couple of months you can start having liqur in moderation. But it's full of empty calories. I have Lumenos bcbs and I didn't pay anything, except my shakes for pre-op. Good luck and I hope you read, read, read, this sight is full of info. :wink2:
  13. Welcome charole', I just had my band done on the 25th and I had 2 weeks of opti-fast before surgery. I mixed it with decaf coffee and splends mocha flavor packs (0 calories) and it made a large drink. I would be pretty full, I had to drink 5 a day and it got old, but I lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks doing them. I had a couple of times I had a piece of cheese or yogurt and still lost the weight. Good luck and you can do it, it's the worse part (besides waiting for approval). Let me know if I can help or suggest anything.
