Dr. Dale Sloan - sleeve??
I went to Dr. Sloan and had the lapband in November 2009 and he is awesome. He does the sleeve now, we had an x-mas party in December2010 and his fist Sleeve patient was there. I'm not sure on the cost, good luck.

3rd fill and felling pain....help!
I just went through this, on Feb. 18th I got my 3rd fill. I was in so much pain when I tried to eat, it felt as if someone was in my stomach cutting me every time I ate. My doc. said to stay on protein shakes and liquides for awhile(till I felt better). Well after about 2-3 weeks I was good to go. I feel great now, just give it some time. Hope this helps, good luck.

Too tight?
I was bandedon on 11/25/09 and I just had my 3rd fill on Feb.18th. I felt the same way u do, it hurt so bad to eat just yogurt or broth (it felt like someone was cutting my insides when I tried to eat). I called my Doc. and he said to give it a few more days, and he was right, I feel great. He said I might be really swollen with this fill. Good luck I hope this helps.

First steps, any advice??
Congrats spaceycasey, that's great about your insurance. I as well had no other problems due to my weight, excapt a high BMI and I just had my band in November. It was the best thing I've ever done for me . I've lost over 40lb so far and 27 inches, I'm loving my band. Good luck and keep us all updated.

I don't wanna carry the weight anymore.
Welcome Beatriz, I too was heavy as a child and it just progressed as I got older. I was banded November 25th 2009, and it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I have lost 40 lbs so far and 27 inches. I feel great and people notice I'm losing. It feels great to run into someone I have'nt seen for awhile and have them comment on how good I look. I was on this sight for awhile before I had my band and it answered alot of questions and fears that I had. I hope you get all your questions answered and make the best decision for you. Good luck, let us know how you're doing.

Banded on 11-13-09 and new here
Welcome CMyers, I was also banded in November (25th), I belong to the November knockouts. It's a great group and please check us out. Good luck on this journey. I've had 2 fills so far, and the first fill I noticed a little restriction the first week. But then I was getting hungry before time to eat again. So I just went a week ago and got my second fill, and can I tell the difference. I was suppose to go this thursday for my third fill, but I'm going to reschedule it. So welcome and good luck, any questions feel free to ask.

Normal restriction or too tight?
I am having the same issue, I too got my 2nd fill last week and I am pbing and bringing it back up. But not all my food, I can eat some things and be ok, but I do notice if I try to eat red meat it wont stay down. I too am eating more yogurt, cottage cheese, things like that. Good luck and I hope this goes away or subsides soon.

Post op gas pains!!!
I was banded on the 25th of Novenber, and like you I had the worse gas pains. I tried the gas x and I walked, walked, walked. Nothing helped, it finally went away around the 4th day. I also had a hernia repaired while the doc was in there, so that didn't help any. I slept in the recliner for 3 nights because it felt like I couldn't breath. I hope your feeling better by now, time was the only thing that helped. Oh and pain pills!:rolleyes2:

Newbie from Long Island
Welcome Mel Mel :w00t:, I was just banded on the 25th of November, it so far is going good. I am still hungry at this point (because I haven't been filled yet), but I am sticking to my 2oz. of protein and 1oz of fruit. It's not easy and it is work, but I have lost 30 lbs so far ( including the pre-op diet) I feel better every day. Like you I have been big my whole life, I have always been on diets only to gain it all back plus some.:rolleyes2: Everyone is different and some people don't want to do the work or they assume it's a quick fix, read, read, read. I asked alot of questions and I went to a couple of support meetings to get the info I needed. Good luck, I hope this helped.:w00t:

New here - 12/10 surgery - dying on pre-op liquid diet!
Hello mom6kids, I as well have 6 kids, 5 at home.:w00t: So my pre-op diet was HARD. I had to drink 5 optifast shakes a day and 1 protein bar. Well I still had to cook for my husband and 5 kids. So I got down 3 shakes a day and my protein bar and I spaced out a slice of cheese here and there and I would have a couple of bites of chicken breast, turkey things like that. I had to loose 15lbs and I lost 22. I did walk a mile every day and do 60 crunches on my balley, but I did it. There were a few other people in my support group that did the same thing. So long story short, you'll be fine. Your'e almost there and it's well worth it. I was banded on the 25th of November and so far so good. Keep us posted.

Big Questions.....Thank You
Welcome, if your'e worried about pai it's not bad at all. The gas pain is the worse for me.:wink2: It took me about 4 months from the beginning to surgery, it would have been sooner, but they were booked. I had a phych. apt. and a physical from my doc. I then had to go to 4 pre-op meetings (1 a week) and do a pre-op diet. I lost 22lbs on the pre-op alone. They say after a couple of months you can start having liqur in moderation. But it's full of empty calories. I have Lumenos bcbs and I didn't pay anything, except my shakes for pre-op. Good luck and I hope you read, read, read, this sight is full of info. :wink2:

And the Journey Begins
Welcome charole', I just had my band done on the 25th and I had 2 weeks of opti-fast before surgery. I mixed it with decaf coffee and splends mocha flavor packs (0 calories) and it made a large drink. I would be pretty full, I had to drink 5 a day and it got old, but I lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks doing them. I had a couple of times I had a piece of cheese or yogurt and still lost the weight. Good luck and you can do it, it's the worse part (besides waiting for approval). Let me know if I can help or suggest anything.

New member
Congrats on your band date. I too hated the shakes, I missed food, even the healthy ones. I would make coffee drinks out of mine, I mixed decaf coffee and splenda mocha packs with my vanillia and choc. shakes and it tasted like a coffee drink. and it was large so it would fill me up. Good luck and hang in there.

New From Rochester, NY
Welcome Melissa, I was just banded on the 25th . I looked into having the lapband surg. back in August 2009. I was 100+ lbs and my bmi was 42. I had no other medical conditions and I was approved with in 2 weeks. I didn't have to have the 6 month diet or any of that. I have Lumenos bcbs. I think it depends on your insurance, but good luck and i hope you find all the info you need. This is one of the best sites to look on.

My journey begins
Welcome Amour, I am getting banded tomarrow :cursing::redface::ohmy:. It seems like it was such a long wait, but now that it's here, it really wasn't. Good luck and read, read, read. I love this sight, it's full of info and support. Let us all know how it's going.

New to site
It depends on your insurance company, I called and asked when my case was being looked at. On the day after they looked at it I called and they told me me I was approved. I then called my wls center and they as well called and got my approval #. I did'nt recieve my approval letter for two weeks after that.:bored: So if you can call...call, like you I could'nt stand waiting. I think that is the hardest part is the wait. I have Lumenos bcbs, I hope this helped. Good luck keep us posted.

Newbie from Austin, TX
Welcome Amber, and happy early b-day. I can relate to your story, I too was very active in jr. high and high school. After I got married and had a family I lost myself. It makes me want to cry to see how big I've gotten. I have my band date this next Wednesday the 25th, and this time it's all about ME. I was at the beginning of my process not to long ago, it went fast. I know right now it seems so far away, but it will be here before you know it. Good luck and let me know how you're doing.

Just wondering
I don't think many of us stay in the hospital, it's an in and out surgery. I know I go home as soon as I get up and start walking. Do you research and read, read, read. There's so much info on here that as you read and ask questions, it will help you know if this is something you want to do. Good luck

You Can Do This!
Thank you Amy, I love the way you put it. I can't wait to start my journey to the new me next week. But I have to say I worry that I wont succeed at this, but then I read your thread and know it will all be ok.

Getting lap band in February
Welcome shoppinkitty, I too was an avid diet pepsi drinker, and I quit cold turkey as soon as I found out I was getting banded. I had a couple of days of migranes, but it was 2-3 days, where as the band is for life. I miss it a little, but I started drinking water and adding crystal light packs and it's ok. I find myself craving it when I dont have any ( water). I plan on going back after 6 days off, I'm having my band on the 25th, that way I have a 4 day weekend and I took a vacation day as well. Good luck, let us know how you're doing.
