New From Rochester, NY

Hi, I am new here and new to the idea of the LapBand. I am trying to do as much research as posible and trying to figure out exactly where to start! I know the 2 "biggies" are do I qualifiy for the surgery and will my issurance cover it. Well, I am 35 and 100+ pounds over weight and my BMI is around 41. I have always struggled with my weight, but never had this much trouble until i had my 2 girls. I gained about 80 pounds with each and they are only 21 months apart. Over the summer I gained at least 25 pounds. I blame this on our move from VA to NY and all of the stress! As for Insurrance, i have Tricare Standard. I know that i would qualify as far as being at least 100 pounds over weight, but i dont think that i have any of the other conditions that they require. Well I think that this is a long enough intro! I tend to talk too much

Any info, advice etc would be wonderful.

Thank You,

Melissa

Welcome Melissa, I was just banded on the 25th .

I looked into having the lapband surg. back in August 2009. I was 100+ lbs and my bmi was 42. I had no other medical conditions and I was approved with in 2 weeks. I didn't have to have the 6 month diet or any of that. I have Lumenos bcbs. I think it depends on your insurance, but good luck and i hope you find all the info you need. This is one of the best sites to look on.
