The form fitting clothes in my closet were disappearing. So were my heels and jeans. Somehow they were replaced with sweatshirts, sweatpants, and men's t-shirts and I couldn't stand the sight of myself. I was avoiding situations where my weight would possibly be an issue. I wasn't living any more, I was existing. Once my denial was completely drained out, I realized although I promised this time would be different, my dieting and exercise attempts failed over the past 4 years. I made the appointment to learn more about the lap band in October of 2010 and after the seminar I was sure it was for me. At times I doubted if I could go through with it, if I could say goodbye to overeating. But then I remembered how I felt after I overate, how I looked after I overate. How my health would continue on the downward path if I keep overeating. So, I keep remembering that "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". Yes, I can choose to eat that bacon cheeseburger, that steak, those fries. It's not that "I can't eat it because I'm dieting". Now, I think "I don't want to eat that because I want to live". I had a great surgery experience. My veins are usually very difficult but the nurse got the IV in on her first try . The anesthesiologist was witty and charming and the surgeon was eager for me to start my new life (and also let me know Mondays are great for him because he's well rested ). They gave me a drug to relax me then took me back to the OR. We were talking and next thing I knew I woke up in the recovery room. I was in pain, let them know, and started my pain medication regimen. Then I had an xray done on the same bed, I was glad I didn't have to move around. Then I went to another room, my husband came in and I was released within an hour. I was happy to go home and sleep! Today is day 2, I have no hunger for now and I'm so glad this part is over with! I will definitely find some terrible pictures my husband managed to sneak of me a few days before the liquid diet and post them . Thanks for reading!

Eventually you'll be able to have a little of your missed foods and be satisfied, so think of it as a "I'll see you for a little while, later" instead of "goodbye". It's been working for me at least. It is a big change but it's exactly what we wanted . Try to remember how you felt after eating those old foods too. Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels! Hang in there my dear.
  3. I was banded on 1/31/11. Everything went really well and the whole staff was very encouraging. I was happy not to have a cathader! I am sore but definitely not the worse pain I've had. I'm a type 1 diabetic on the pump and that all went smoothly as well. Surgery was done at 8 and I went home at 12.

  5. I know what you mean, I was changing it every other day and now I'm down to 50 units a day. I know it will change once I eat but for now I'm pleased. I had my surgery today and ran about 220 and everything went fantastic.
  6. I have Tricare Prime and I'm at Fairchild AFB and my husband is active duty AF. I have had to pay $320 for the nutritionist, but everything else is covered.
  7. Thank you so much for all the responses, I definitely needed them right now.
  8. I really like to use the Wii Fit because it charts your weight for you and you can set goals as well. It really helps to see it graphed out! The best part is it does all the work for you
  9. So tomorrow morning I'll be headed out to get banded! I want to thank everyone for all the great help and information along the way . I have spent my morning cleaning and making everyone else do the same because I don't want to worry about it tomorrow. I feel silly worrying about it but it is what it is I suppose. My mom tried sending me flowers but because of some issues getting them on base I won't get them until tomorrow. But, they are here in spirit and encouraging as well . So after thoroughly organizing my basement and arranging my books chronologically by author's birth date, I will finally stop procrastinating and pack my bag for the hospital. Maybe it will really sink in then, I don't know. But I am very eager to start living the life I want to instead of saying I will "one day"! My day has come!
  10. I'm a type 1 on the pump getting banded 1/31/11. I had the same concerns but what will happen is you will drop your rates significantly during the liquid diet and even run high in order to prevent lows during the first few months. During the operation, my Endo has me having my pump at 75%. I worried about the same thing! But, my endocrinologist and surgeon want me to be running in the 150's-200's for now.
  11. Same for me, night time is when my hungry comes out! It's this Monday!
  12. I am feeling the same thing! Being banded Monday as well
  13. Yum! I love cabbage and this just sounds delicious. I can't wait to try it, thanks!
  14. No you're not, I'm getting banded on the 31st I went out to get some more broth and Jello today and then I'll wait until Sunday to finish up preparing what I need at the hospital. I'm the first one of the day, checking in at 5am. It feels very surreal right now.
  15. Sounds like the surgery went well. The meds part though, how rude! I wish all doctors wouldn't assume you're an addict until proven innocent. Why be in pain? I had one doctor who believed in that and nothing "bad" happened to me. Anyway, hope you feel yourself soon!
  16. I like it, love it even. It really has to be done "correctly" otherwise you will be one of those people who says it's hurts, no way, blah blah blah. It does reach the Gspot easier and yes, being taboo adds to the fun. You have to be able to relax and in no way does it feel like passing a bowel movement. To say that is to say the vagina would feel like giving birth! The first time I tried it I hated it, but then I looked into it and now I crave it
  17. I know exactly what you mean! The day I got my date (1/31/11) I was having cold feet and I looked at the pics I was in earlier that day and all doubt was removed
  18. Agreed! The same goes for bras

I agree, going in to have it done helps. I splurge on certain items, know where to save on others. For powder or foundation, I like MAC or Clinique. Be sure to get your color matched professionally though, nothing worse than looking like a pumpkin or ghost . I like a kohl eyeliner, Rimmel makes an excellent one and it's cheap. I love MAC/Urban Decay eyeshadow because of the pretty and quality pigments that go a long way just by using a little. My lips I play down, and just use Nivea Milk and Honey. Most of all, just "practice" at home, think of your face as the canvas I usually do my friend's makeup when we go out and it's a lot of fun. Oh, and choose one to play up, never do 2 features at once.
  20. I had cold feet too. Then later that day I saw pictures my husband took that day while we were out and all doubt was gone.
  21. Same here! You have it easier Shakes and broth/jello only here. The goal is to shrink the liver to make surgery easier and to view your anatomy better. My nutritionist also said this way there is more compliance with the diet haha
