honw long does it take to actually start losing??
Dragonfly: I am also right where you are! Had surgery 12/30 and have only lost about 12 pounds. First month I lost 12 pounds, the 2nd month I lost zero. I have had two fills and still have no restriction. I get my 3rd fill on 3/2 so hopefully we will be on the same page. Please keep in touch with me and we can try to help each other out. I do have tried to watch what I eat but like I said to TJ if I wasn't going to have restriction why did I spend all this money on surgery. Hang in there. I've read where lots of folks get their 3rd or 4th fill and then the weight starts to fall off again. Hopefully this will happen for us!

TJ: I appreciate what you are saying, but let's be serious if anyone or everyone did your entire list no one would need the band. If someone has no restriction then they might as well have saved all their money and and the risk of surgery and just followed your list. If you were able to do that entire list and ONLY eat Protein and veggies which is the ATKINS diet why did you get the band? Just sayin...

Veteran Banders - Please help me determine restriction or stuck
See, this is so helpful. I had always heard steak/pork were so hard to eat after the band so I just thought chicken was everyone main source of meat. That really helps. And, to think that a dime size of chicken is still too big is amazing but that makes sense. Hard to believe before we ate huge bites and that is still too small. So thank you so much for this information. I am not sure where I am going to get all this protein if I can't eat chicken because I cannot eat fish. Looks like I'll have to have one of those Protein drinks every day that has the 52 grams per drink. What does everyone eat for Breakfast? I can't do eggs so what does everyone else seem to eat?

Veteran Banders - Please help me determine restriction or stuck
Maybe you are right. I am probably eating too fast. I guess it seems slow in comparison to before but still not slow enough. It is getting stuck and I do feel pain but after a minute or so it goes down. You got banded two years ago? So did you only average about 30 pounds per year? I was truly hoping to lose 50 within a year. Do you have any comments as to why your loss seems to be slower?

POLL: how much fill in a 10cc band?
Sorry if you see this more than once. I've posted on seveal threads because I wasn't getting much response: I am 5 weeks post op. Had my 1st fill nothing changed could still eat anything. Had my 2nd fill on 2/2. Here's my dilemma. I am having trouble eating most stuff. I'm trying to determine the difference between being stuck and having restriction. So, at first bite of chicken (size of dime chewed a lot) I am still getting stuck. So obviously this does not mean restriction because it's my first bite. So in my trial and error testing I found I could eat Chili. So last night I wanted to see if I ate a cup of chili would I get full. I didn't. It seemed as though I could have eaten three cups. So, today I tried eating a piece of chicken again and each piece got stuck. So it's taking me an hour to eat a piece of chicken, but I never seem to get full. Maybe because it takes me so long to eat it or maybe because there is no restriction. So my question is there really seems to be no restriction but everything is getting stuck. I feel like I need another fill so I can have restriction but with another fill Im not sure I could eat any real Protein. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great! __________________

Why I'm considering a lawsuit...
1)Im five weeks post op and have lost 12 pounds. 2)You did not supply any information as to what you are eating/when/how much. How can we comment when we have no idea what you are eating. The band does nothing until you have restriction so you can't sue when you haven't put the band to work yet. 3)Have you ever looked at what 1.5 ccs is? Is nothing. I have had two fills. I am at 5ccs and still have no restriction. 4) Every form you signed stated that there is no guarantee of weight loss 5) A lawsuit would cost much more than a fill. Sounds like your dr. uses fills as a means of revenue if they are giving such small amounts. Tell him for that amount of money you want at least four or five ccs on your next fill or find someone else. Good luck.

Someone brought be food...
Don't give this a 2nd thought. He probably brought donuts thinking you eat that kind of things so simply say... I'm on a healthkick that's overdue so I'm going to pass these along to those who aren't, but thanks for the gesture. It doesn't need to be about surgery. I would never FAKE eat something for someone else.

To be or not to be...restricted
Illumination: I got banded a week or so after you. I am already up to 6 ccs in a 10 cc band and I dont feel anything yet either. I'm hoping around 7 ccs I will be all set. I just got my 2nd fill today so I dont know if I have restriction yet but like you I dont really know what restiction is... I've eaten a couple things that seemed stuck when I ate really fast. I've been able to eat anything as long as I chew it up. I'll keep you posted.

3rd fill today - very dissapointed - need your thoughts
I go for my 2nd fill next week. I'll update everyone. I got 5 ccs in my band on my first fill and felt nothing eating amount wise. Now I will say if I eat fast like another lady said you can end up kinda stuck because you need more time in between bites to tell you that you're full. But, I can eat as much now as I could before the band. To the girl who said her dr said restriction is a cop out. Really? Then why is he doing the surgery? Sounds like your doctor screwed something up and now wants to convince you to do it on your own. What he said is crazy. If you aren't going to have restriction why the hell would you have the surgery. If he had said that to me... everyone in the office would have heard me question his abilities. Hope things get better for you.

Easter Challenge Anyone?
I'm in. I'm 3 weeks post op and I've lost 9 pounds not feeling any restriction. After my first fill still no restrction but I would love to lose 30 by Easter. I'll give it a shot. I'm starting today at 193 so I'm shooting for 163 by Easter! Sounds good!

A little frustrated with myself...
Stacy, I love these menu items. Thanks for sharing. Did you get your band two months ago and already lost 63 pounds?

December Bandsters 2009
Got my first fill yesterday. It was so easy. I was scared to death and it went really well. They did use a little needle to numb the area and 20 seconds later she stuck the big needle in and put in 5 ccs. I dont feel any restriction yet but maybe next fill.

Post Op and feeling great!!
I am laughing so hard, I thought you said you DID do a bunch of crunches after you got home. I was getting ready to ask you... You're concerned about a smoke and you did crunches with heaping wounds in your stomach. LOL I was really wondering if you were that motivated to do crunches why you needed surgery. Sorry I can't help I am a non smoker.

Hair Loss, Protein, Bioten etc...
Im only 3 weeks post op and haven't really lost any weight but this is one of my big fears. I am anxious to hear what others say. In talking to others most told me that it lasts about two months and then hair stops falling out and appears to grow again. Hang in there.

Lol!!!
That's good to hear. I got banded 12/30 and have felt NO restriction and have only lost about 7 pounds. I get my first fill today. Maybe I will finally be able to feel full and use this tool.

Telling people, Judgements, and Accountability with the Band
My opinion about the biggest loser contest prize money is if you take that money because you win after having surgery you are really cheating those who dont have food restriction. And, nothing stays a secret if you've told even one person. If you win and you take their money when it gets out not only will EVERYONE know about your surgery because everyone will be talking about it at the Water cooler a lot of them will not be happy with you. That money may not be worth it if everyone at work wishes you didnt work there.

Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less
JoJo When were you banded? I am told that most lose hair around month three. If you are passed that stage you probably wont have any problems.
-
Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less
If you've ever known anyone who was anorexic you will find one of the first signs that they are underating is their hair is falling out. I've known two girls who suffered from anorexia and in the initial stages when they stopped eating and started losing lots of weight they lost tons of hair.

Telling people, Judgements, and Accountability with the Band
Jennifer, You are cracking me up. The whole knee surgery. My question is... why not come up with a surgery that involves your abdomen. I was able not to mention mine to anyone but there are lots of surgeries like female stuff where they go in laproscopically. My girlfriend had endometriosis and when it was removed she had the same scars on her tummy. Too bad you didn't do that - you wouldnt have had to limp or have him wonder about scars. haha You have to keep us updated on this. LOL My opinion unless someone else is paying for my 13K surgery, nothing about me or my surgery is anyone elses business. Even if they are overweight and asking!

Telling people, Judgements, and Accountability with the Band
I just have to ask this... he's your live in boyfriend and you don't think he will notice scars all over your stomach? What about intimate moments? I like you am not telling people about my band but I dont know how that would be possible if I lived with a man. Really curious in OH! haha

Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less
I am surprised that you have to do a preop diet with your low BMI. I am hoping to lose the same as you but not looking for any big loss soon as the slower I lose the easier I think it will be to keep off. I've also heard if you lose a lot fast you will experience hair loss so be careful.
