  1. I have found that those who do not want to share the news are more the individuals who have lower BMIs and just dont want to hear the - you aren't big enough for WLS. I happen to be one of these folks and 1) dont feel like it matters how you lose it as long as you do what you have to do and 2) shouldn't have to feel like you have to be 150 or more pounds overweight before someone thinks WLS is for you. Everyone has their own person weight issues. I've been small my entire life but have been 70 pounds overweight for that last five years. My 70 lbs may be comparable to another persons 200 lbs excess weight. I don't discuss any personal matters (kids, relationships) with co workers so I wouldn't share this either. Friends and family who love you are differerent but I see no reason to share such a person matter with co workers or casual friends. The band isn't a fix all you still have to do that work so if you lose weight with the band you have worked in some way to lose it. You can have the band and eat ice cream every day and actuall gain weight. So whether you share or not... be proud of your choice.
  2. I wanted to join in on this thread. Banded 12/30. Haven't had any issues. Did not do a preop and after six days do not have any restriction so the hunger is coming but I am just trying to eat the Protein and veggies as stated until my first fill on 1/20. I dont believe I've had any weight loss but it should start as even w/o the band I am basically doing the adkins diet and everyone sees results with that if you dont eat carbs. I know six days out I could eat a big mac if I wanted but I am not so that is good.
  3. Hey everyone, Getting the band tomorrow. So be available to help me when I freak out. ha No preop diet for me so that was nice. I am doing all broth today and it's 4:00 pm now and I am starving but that's okay - after today, tomorrow and several days of more broth maybe I'll have a few pounds off of me.
  4. Katchat: From what I have seen Lisa is getting banded today. I didnt see anything about banding on Sunday and Amy was banded on 12-23-09 so she's just a few days post op. There was another girl names Cassie who posted but she got banded in December of 08. I'm getting banded Wednesday if you want to check back I'll answer any questions you might think of.
  5. What exactly is the dumping? Is that constipation or the opposite affect?
  6. Lucet, Depending on how your office works - this will just be a meet and greet with your doctor or with his nurses to see if you qualify weight wise or insurance wise. Don't be nervous. I went through the entire process with one doctor but just didn't like their nurses or him for that matter and then started all over with another dr. I am self pay so it wasn't that difficult but the intital consult is just informative so don't be nervous. I'm banding Wednesday and can give you a full report as soon as I am able to get on line.
  7. Now you will really hate me. LOL My doctor said at our consult that after surgery he will want me to do clear liquids for a day or two, then regular liquids for a day or two then soft food for a couple of days. So I think I'll only be miserable for a few days.
  8. Don't hate me, but I did not have to do any preop diet. I am however doing as much liquids as possible today and tomorrow just for my own sake. The doctor said I have a BMI of 35 so he didn't want me losing any weight or I wouldn't qualify anymore. So glad to have you all a week out to get me thru this and answer questions.
  9. 90 pounds in six months - WOW... what did you do if you dont mind me asking. I totally undertand still wanting to do it because maintaining will be easier with the restriction. But, what an accomplishment on your own. So you had surgery at your weight around 197. I'm just curious because I am having surgery starting at 200.
  10. Hey there, I was curious about your stats. Says you have lost almost a 100 pounds from consult to surgery. Is that right? I was just wondering if you lost almost 100 pounds before getting banded why you went through with it since you did amazing w/o it?
  11. Kathie, I think all drs are different. My dr said that drinking coffee is fine and he also said that soda is fine in moderation if you stick to diet drinks to avoid the calories. Just have a consultation with a dr and ask them what they think. I'm glad to know if I want them I can have them but I plan to avoid them as I want this to be a new start!
  12. Hey girls, I wanted to join in on this group because I get banded on Wed and I am totally nervous but reading your experiences really helps. Hopefully you will all continue to come back to this thread so I have some support. Wish me luck.
  13. ktims: I think we spoke briefly in the chat tonight but I am also having surgery on 12/30 so we are definitely going to be going thru this together. My email is missnashville40@att.net if you want to email me and let me know how you are doing after the surgery. I will need all the help I can get after to answer all the questions I may have.
  14. Hi Girls, I am having surgery on 12/30 and would love to have someone to chat with. How have you done since being banded on 12/7?
  15. Mellow ways: Can you post a link to the Nov knockouts. I don't know how to find it. Thanks.
  16. I have to admit I am speechless. Getting lapband at 166 lbs. You did so great losing so much weight before the band why did you not keep it up? And, your insurance paid for this when you could have only been 30/40 pounds overweight at that point? What insurance do you have? Good Luck!
  17. How did you get your insurance to approve you at this weight? What insurance do you have? Mine wouldnt even consider it and I am the same height and same weight. Thanks.
  18. Ask anything? Okay then.. HOW are you? What type of pain were you in the day of surgery? How has it gotten better over the couple days you've been home. Any regrets? Coulld you just tell me a little about how you feel?
  19. I think I am going to devote from now until the end of the year to losing 1 lbs a week and see if I can do it. It's a lifestyle change either way. If insurance was paying - there would be no decision but I too will have to pay about $16K. That's a big amount of money if I were to have an emergency. Maybe we could keep checking back and I'll post my progress! If I can lose at least one pound a week I would be amost 15 pounds thinner by Christmas. I may even shoot for 2 pounds a week - if I were able to do that I would be almost 30 pounds thinner. Maybe you guys could help motivate me!!!!!!! If it doesn't work I'll just bite the bullet and have the band the 1st of the year. It still gives me six months of banding until summer.
  20. Chrissee, I am considering this too, but really think I'm too scared to do it. I am your same weight. About 190 at the moment. Maybe we could chat - In a perfect world I would love to just do it on my own. When I see everyone averaging around 1 pound a week I just want to make myself to it on my own. As a self pay if something went wrong I don't know how I would pay for it.
  21. Megster, I will be a self pay patient - would you mind telling me at Baptsist if you had to self pay or did insurance cover? If you were self pay would you mind sharing howmuch it cost at Baptist. I have been dealing with Centennial and it's really high.
  22. FtCampbell - I would love to know who did your band and how much it cost. I assume being 194 you were probably a self pay also? I am close to Fort Campbell myself. Would love to have you to talk to when I am freaking out.
  23. Thank you all so much! I really appreciate all of your comments. I am still scared to death and think there is a chance I may back out. I'm so mad that I can't do this on my own. It scares me to think if something goes wrong - being self pay I would go broke.
  24. My date is October 29th. I am a self pay and too scared to go to Mexico in case something goes wrong. Having mine local but the cost is So much. I am terrified of being put under and something going wrong. I'm a single Mom and already feeling bad that I wont be able to take my daughter trick or treating. I am starting at 195 and have a BMI of 33. Would love to chat with someone who is close to my BMI. Good Luck Everyone.
  25. I'm scheduled for 10-29 but so many people say that I don't weigh enough. I really want to hear from those who are at our size. Please comments welcome.
