  1. Wanna, Congrats on your decision and attitude. It doesn't have to be tough. Try not to think about what you are missing and look to the light at the end of the tunnel. I did nothing but Optifast shakes for 4 weeks and enjoyed it the whole time. I didn't let myself have the attitude that it was missing out on something. I concentrated on how much they tasted like delicious milk shakes. Good luck and keep us informed. Bob
  2. I have been fighting to lose 1 lb (well, patiently waiting) to get below 220 lbs and reach my next goal for a over a month now. It seemed that my journey was going to end there and I was content to try and maintain the 145 pound loss. Persistence and patience paid off once again. This morning I got on the scale and it registered 217 pounds. I got off [sic] and on several times, standing in different places on the scale to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Woohoo!!! Next stop; ONEDERLAND!!!!! About the subject line, 220 pounds is 100 kilos. As of this morning, I am at 98 K!!!!
  3. An hour and a half, maybe 2 hours.
  4. First off, congrats on your progress! 16 Pounds in 10 weeks is great. That makes for about 82 pounds in a year. Exercise and working out are not the same thing. I'm down 145 pounds in 11 months and have not stepped foot inside a gym in over 5 years. However, I do try and walk for at least 5 hours (300 minutes) a week. As somebody mentioned earlier, it is nice to get out and see what is actually going on in the neighborhood; seeing people and things I don't see speeding by in my car while watching the road. Start small. Try and walk for a 150 minutes a week; splitting it up any way you please. Do you have a dog or does your lifestyle leave you time to care properly for one. They are a great inspiration to walk. I have 2 dogs that I enjoy walking with nearly as much as they enjoy walking with me. PS. It's too late for doubts honey. The band is in you. Now is the time to learn to enjoy it.
  5. Wikipedia explains it rather clearly: Hiatus hernia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  6. Well put but you left out the mortality rate and the fact that even though bypass patients post impressive numbers for the first year or so; more than half of them gain almost every pound back. You couldn't pay me enough to have bypass or the sleeve.
  7. You can definitely have a hernia and not know. Many hiatal hernias go undetected for people's whole life. Repairing the hernia is probably covered by your insurance if done in the US. Call your insurance company and find out if they cover hernia repair. Then, you may be able to get banded for a fraction of the cost while they are in repairing the hernia.
  8. I would tell them that it is not the surgery that is bad; their mother just happens to be a clueless idiot. That would definitely either change the subject fast or make them leave. Either way, you wouldn't have to hear the discouraging remarks.
  9. Lo mein isn't a good idea. The noodles are not chew friendly swallow the noodles almost whole. If you are going to eat it, I suggest cutting the noodles very very small before eating. On the other hand, you could always throw the lo main in the blender and make it a blended food.
  10. Hi, my name is Bob and I am a scale whore. :cursing: You don't have to get away from the scale, you just have to become accustomed to the fluctuations. Weigh as often as you'd like (have to) but only record your weight once a week.
  11. I ordered an extra large pizza on Friday afternoon. Had a slice when it arrived. Another slice Friday night. 2 slices on Saturday and just finished another slice. Half of the pizza is gone and I may have to throw the other half out. A year ago I would have finished that same pizza in one sitting and had a sandwich too.
  12. I had 2 or 3 boneless wings at Buffalo Wild Wings.
  13. You tend to take more air in when using a straw was the reason I was given.
  14. BULL SHIT!!!! I checked with my surgeon's office on more than one occasion to ensure that this was not true. I went from a 55 BMI down to 39 in the 5 months leading up to surgery. Check with your surgeon's office and don't take the word of any stranger including myself. Preventing yourself from losing weight is retarded unless this is a very good reason.
  15. Are you drinking plenty of water? It is necessary to wash the waste that you are burning from your body. Also, STOP comparing yourself to others!! It only ends in disappointment because we tend to look past those we are doing better than and only remember those that are way more successful.
  16. What post-op pain? Was there supposed to be some?
  17. I want to try and keep it central to the Metroplex. I technically live in Fort Worth myself because I am within 2 miles on I35W. Face to face meetings are great. Angst and miscommunication sometimes occur online because emotion can be lost in the printed words of a forum.
  18. No Facebook is required. However, in order to see the forum and calendar, you do have to register on Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup.com. It is free.
  19. Or, they would want another woman or men are suppose to marry multiple women.
  20. Your god's perfect plan of 1 man, 1 woman is flawed. He accidentally made more women than men.
  21. I wished I was like him and could take my sister's mouth away. She wouldn't be such a bitch if she didn't open her mouth.
  22. Because if you don't, you pay for it!! It hurts! I speak from experience and too much of it.
  23. Hi, I just created a new meetup group for DFW area bandsters to get together and discuss experiences. The site is only a couple of hours old and still a little raw. If you are interested in meeting fellow bandsters in the area; please check it out. DFW Lapband Meetup Group (Keller, TX) - Meetup.com It is a closed group. So, privacy should be of little concern. Thanks!! Bob * moderators, please don't move this post. I've cross-posted to the local Texas forum as well but that is not read as much as general.
