Hi, Im new.
Record everything she has to say so you can play it back to her in 3 years after she's gained every pound back. Most by-pass patients do. The after care that comes with the lapband slows and/or prevents the relapse that most bypass patients incur.

Hookah
Smoking raises your blood pressure and the chemicals you inhale in the smoke can prohibit healing or cause blood clots. It's definitely best to avoid smoking a month in advance and a month following surgery. I don't smoke hookers[sic] but I do smoke and know I have to stop for surgery.

How do you PB????
Eating Proteins first and then the other stuff is not a rule. It is more of a guideline. The rules while eating are simple: Don't drink while eating Chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew Stop eating when satisfied

How do you PB????
The only stupid questions are those not asked. It has begun before the food even reaches your "pouch". Digestion begins in the mouth. Saliva contains enzymes which start breaking food down. The food is further broken down by digestive fluids in your stomach including your pouch. The pouch itself is only there to slow down the food and trick your stomach into thinking it is full.

To exercise or not to exercise...
"Muscle weighs more than fat" is a bunch of bunk! Muscle does indeed weigh more than fat but there is no way in Hell to build muscle at nearly the rate you burn fat. Are you doing the same resistance training every day? If so, you have to take a day or 2 off in order for your muscles to relieve themselves of the lactic acid you built during exercise. Also, how much Water are you consuming daily. You have to make sure to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day. Water acts as a filter and cleans your system. Also, without enough water, your body starts to retain Fluid.

BMI over 50 - In it for the long haul
Sorry, I could live the rest of my life on nothing but Optifast. So, I guess I can't be of any help here. I love the stuff. Is it the taste or the texture that turns you off?

Eye Vision??
I have. It has to do with my blood pressure. I've experienced in past weight loss attempts as well. It is a pain in the ass. I am near-sighted and now have to take off my glasses to read. I am too young to be getting bifocals.

How am I doing?
Actually, in this case; she should compare herself to others instead of being skeptical. Most don't lose 16 pounds in just over 2 weeks. That number is phenomenal. Congrats on the weight loss but god only knows how much you were expecting to be down in just 17 days.

Plugged up
Sounds like a minor slip or you're swollen for some reason. Please call your surgeon's office for their advice.

Why am I such a scale whore??
There is nothing wrong with being a scale whore. You just can't let the daily fluctuations frustrate you. I weigh myself multiple times a day and only record my weight once a week. Five miles in 90 minutes is a pretty good pace. Congrats!!

How often do you exercise
What is exercise? Walking from the couch to the bathroom and back is exercise. So, I'd think everybody exercises every day. I haven't been in a gym in over 5 years or done a real "work out" in probably just as long but I exercise every day.

Just wanna say...
There may be no bashing but there is a good deal of bickering and it wouldn't be interesting without it.

Is it true that you have to wait two minutes after every bite?
What she said

When did Bandster Hell start for you?
I've had no Hell at all. I started the process a year ago; was banded 6 months ago and have been enjoying every bit of it. Keep a positive attitude and you probably won't have any problems.
-
holy shit!
Congrats!!! Time flies when you're having fun.

I'm so lazy
Exercise doesn't require a gym. You can do it at the office. Take a few coffee breaks during the day and walk around the office; walk up and down a few flights of stairs; park as far from the office as you can; bring a couple of Water jugs to the office and lift/curl them every so often.

Gastric Sleeve vs. Banding
The band doesn't require cutting off 3/4 of a vital organ and tossing it in the trash. It is too new to have any real figures but I'll be willing to bet that just like with bypass, the majority of patients that manage to live gain any weight they lost back. The band requires maintenance if done right and helps keep us in check.

How do you know when you're full?
We are all different. I am at what I think is my sweet spot and still enjoy bread, rice and Pasta. The bread is a little tougher if it is not toasted. I basically chew it and swirl it around in my mouth until it melts. I can't do spaghetti or thinner pastas unless I cut them very small. They are too hard to chew otherwise and slide down (and sometimes back up) whole.

How do you know when you're full?
Our esophagi produce a clear mucus to aid in the swallowing of food. When food gets stuck the mucus/slime has nowhere to go but up. It's kind of fun. Looks like a jellyfish when it is spit into the toilet.

How do you know when you're full?
I just like pointing out that I am atypical

Eating Out
I eat out at least 5 days a week. I just relax and get what I feel like eating. It's not about what you eat. It's about how you eat it. Cut it small and chew each piece long and hard. Have the waitress take your glass away when she delivers the entree and don't be afraid to ask for a to go box early as well. PS. Yes, you can go wrong with a salad. I tend to be hungry as soon as I get back to my desk if all I have is a salad for lunch.
