  1. I love greek yogurt...but not the plain yogurt.. plain yogurt in any form is nasty.. LOL I use the Chobani flavored yogurt... it comes in three flavors, peach (YUM) blueberry and strawberry..... I add one packet of splenda to it... try that...
  2. Sounds to me that he is pushing is preference on you.. I was banded on May 19, 2009. My BMI 2 wks before was 63.61. I have lost about 68lbs including my 2 wk pre-op diet and my BMI is now 51.49. My cholesterol has gone from 238 10 days before my surgery to 177 at the end of September. I am totally off one of my Diabetes meds and cut the other one from 1000mg a day to 250mg every other day.. I think I have been successful and so does my surgeon.. he tells me every time I see him how well I am doing... If you truly want the band and this surgeon will not do it, go see another surgeon.. do not let him change your mind unless he can give you other reasons other then that people w/BMI over 50 don't succeed, why he thinks that the bypass is better for you. Every person is different and your success is all up to you and how you work your band... and just for the record. .my surgeon NEVER tried to convince me that the bypass would be better.. I told him I wanted the band and he said ok.
  3. Yup.. that's Lortab.. that's what they gave me as well, in liquid form... it didn't do much for me... it took the edge off a little bit but that was all... thankfully after the 2nd full day, I really didn't need any pain meds... and I am a stomach sleeper, so I know what you are going through. Like everyone said, nap as much as possible during the day... a recliner is great... I only had my couch, but I would lay on the couch propped up during the day... and I did get up and walk a lot.. that is important... good luck and let us know how you are doing...
  4. you are welcome Laura... yeah.. it's a good site.. I live in S. Florida, that is where they are based.. they have a store and everything.. I know one of the girls, Teresa White... I'm sure you saw her on the site... At one of my surgeon's support group meetings, which by the way, he separates the band pts from the bypass/sleeve patients, but for one meeting, he had the head chef from the hospital he does his surgeries at come in and he fixed a few of the recipes from the site and Teresa was also there w/samples of some of their products... I have not done one of their online support groups but I understand that they are very good...good luck and I hope you can find a support group close to you!!
  5. I found it and downloaded it.. I have the G1... looks very cool... can't wait to really get to check it out...
  6. I am one that is very sensitive to fills...I have a 10CC band and I have 3.25 CC after my last fill the week before Christmas and I am TIGHT... it's hit and miss from day to day, even meal to meal sometimes if I can eat... I have had 2 slight unfills after being too tight...
  7. I would definately talk to your surgeon... but I would also get another fill...
  8. first of all, good for you for going back and getting that fill after the unfill. Glad you are feeling better too... in regards to the support groups, are you sure there are no other supports groups in your area? Contact your local bariatric surgeons and ask them if they hold support group meetings and if they do, are you welcome even if you aren't a patient and explain your situation... I know my surgeon welcomes everyone, his patient or not...second, if there truly isn't any support groups in your area that you can attend in person, the Bariatric Eating website does host an online support group... check out their website... www.bariatriceating.com good luck!!
  9. It is true... some people it takes less to feel restriction then others... I was banded May 19, 2009. I only have 3.25 CC in a 10CC band..I have a LOT of restriction.. so much so that from one day to the next, I don't know if I will be able to eat or if everything will get stuck.. I was last filled the week before Christmas... I am just sticking it out and doing liquids on the days that are bad... I don't want to lose this restriction but it is also a struggle because I don't want to damage the band... I started at 358.5 2 wks before my surgery, so I also have a lot more to lose and I am down a total of almost 70 lbs including the 2 wk pre-op liquid diet... what kind of band do you have? Realize or lap-band? I have heard people w/the realize band that have needed to be overfilled before they felt restriction.. I'm glad my surgeon used the lap band on me and no the realize... good luck and be proud that you have lost what you have w/no restriction and have not gained it back.. you have more will power then most!!
  10. How many fills has he had??? How big of a band does he have and how much does he have IN the band?? also, what kind of band does he have?? I know some people it takes a LOT of fill before they feel restriction.. I have also seen a lot of people w/the Realize band that are almost filled to capacity and they don't have restriction, and everyone is different to when and how much fill it takes to feel the restriction... I have a 10 CC lap band and I only have 3.25CC in it and I have a LOT of restriction....I have had 5 fills and 2 slight unfills...
  11. I was banded on May 19th... I have had 5 fills w/2 slight unfills because I was too tight.
  12. I use Pure Protein brand.. I get it at Target... I use the chocolate and I mix it w/8 oz of skim milk, a tbsp of reduced fat Peanut Butter and some ice and put it on the bullet... it's great and has close to 40 grams of protein once I use the milk and peanut butter....
  13. I went through my insurance for all of my pre-op testing.. all the testing I had done where not tests that were unusual for an obese person... so this was before my surgeon's office tried to get approval from my insurance company. After their denial, that is when I went self pay.
  14. I totally get the easy to take to work.. but the sugar... that can be a killer.. if you like broccoli, see if you can get the pre-cut packages of raw broccoli, etc.. you can also get pre-cut celery too... cauliflower pre-cut... if you can find that.. try going that route because there is no sugar in those... hope this helps and good luck!!
  15. I lost about 12 lbs... I was drinking 4 slim fast shakes a day and one meal a day of 5oz of lean Protein and 1 cup of salad w/low fat/fat free dressing.. this is what I was instructed to do by my surgeon.... the only issue w/you not losing might be if you are eating too many carrots... Carrots are VERY high in sugar... I LOVE carrots.. but they are very high in sugar... something to think about...
  16. Had a fill on 12/16 and weighed in at 298. This morning on my scale I was 290.8. I have been VERY tight since my fill and have had some issued eating but it is getting better... thankfully!!
  17. It is very common w/significant weight loss to have your gall bladder go bad... so much so that there are a lot of surgeons who will take it out when they do your procedure to keep you from having to have an additional surgery should it go bad. Fortunately I had mine out years ago so I didn't have to worry about it...
  18. I am also on Depo... I had to stop before the surgery.... I was due for a shot close to my surgery date but I did not take the shot... I imagine that the "trauma" of the surgery may have caused you to have a period... or... if you had to stop like I did, that is probably why...
  19. Congrats and good luck tomorrow!!
  20. I understand where you are coming from... I had liquids for 2 wks after my surgery... 14 days, not 10.. LOL but.. it is VERY important that you do what YOUR surgeon told you... you can't go by what others did.. every surgeon has their reasons for why they do the post op diet the way they do... I understand the hunger... but you must listen to your doctor and don't do anything different unless you talk to him/her and they tell you it's ok to advance to the next stage...good luck and congrats on being banded!!
  21. I started in a size 28 jeans the day of my surgery.. I am now in a 20 and looking forward to getting into even smaller clothes.. although I will admit that if I have to stop shopping at the Avenue, my favorite store, that will be a little bitter sweet but exciting at the same time.. LOL
  22. I agree, Insurance companies suck... but at the same time, I don't regret for one minute paying for the surgery myself... I wasn't so fortunate to only have a BMI of 38..my starting BMI was over 60... and my insurance wouldn't cover it.. my BMI is now 52..that's a HUGE difference..I still have a long way to go, but it's a start... my cholesterol 10 days before my surgery was 238... the end of September, it was 177.... would I have liked my insurance to pay for it.. sure.. but I don't regret taking the money from my 401K to have this surgery because I am already healthier... am I worried that something will go wrong w/the band, etc.. sure... but again, I was more worried about what could happen if I DIDN'T have the surgery.. but I can't live everyday wondering "what if something goes wrong w/my band" just because I self paid...
  23. You can order Isopure from Bariatric Eating... BariatricEating.com - BE, Inc. The number one bariatric website for Protein, Vitamins, and success. Good luck!! let us know how it goes!
  24. Hey Heidi... I just had a fill on Wednesday and Dr. Wizman just changed to 2 day of liquid after a fill too... the reasoning being that it allows more time for the swelling to go down after the fill. I am definately tight but I can get liquids down and I think it is getting a little better in terms of what I can actually get down...
  25. You are giving me hope.. LOL I started out a size 28 jean the day of my surgery.. I am now in a size 20... I can't remember the last time I wore a size 20.....
