I am almost at my year mark. Yaaay I am down 100lbs and have more energy than ever. I wanted to recap this past yr for everyone wondering. My life IS completely different. I take Vitamins everyday. For example before surgery I never worked out, now I work out 4-5 times a week and I mean kicking ass in the gym. It has became very therapeutic for me. Never thought I would be sayin that lol. Not every change is huge there are a few small ones like the fact that I don't burp anymore. Weird huh? I can't even force one out I honestly don't remember ever burping post operation. I still look in the mirror and can't believe I have come so far. My mind still sees my body as xtremly heavy its nt until I see pictures that it sinks in that this is what I look like now. Some food I can not eat at all because I physically can not and others I choose to stay away from. I have not had soda in a year. Only Water skim milk and Crystal lite. I do not eat bread at all I am not sure if I can or not but I know its not good for u so I just don't even try. No tuna which was my favorite it just will not go down. Ummmm surgery has changed my life for the better and I can do so much more without restriction. Walk up stairs and not be tired, get on roller coasters, ride airplane with out extensions. And these r just small things. Everyday is a new day and you will mess up I have got stuck many times choosing poor foods and I paid for it dearly but overall I feel great and happy and can't wait til I get to onderland. This is just the beginning of my journey. Good luck to everyone.

what kind of music do you listen to though? When I exercise, I like angry rock music. I dunno why but it makes me cycle faster, run longer and seems to pump up the adrenalin.

I dont know if its "normal" but its not all that uncommon. I know a friend of a friend, as well as my sis that both had bypass...both turned into very stuck up snobby you know whats. It was one of the key reasons i was so dead set against having weight loss surgery myself..i feared i would turn out the same way. However, with the LB it comes off slower so its not this sudden look in the mirror of "damn I look hotter than so and so" those with LB tend to have time to get use to the slow changes so in my opinion we are less likely to have the stuck up attitude.
I told my husband I want to gain more confidence, but if i EVER come across as snobby or cocky, PLEASE say something, because i dont want to be that person.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I got the band in march 2008. I have lost 95 lbs. I even got pregnant and have a healthy son and I weigh less than I did per-pregnancy. I will tell you that I did not lose as fast as my best friend who got the surgery too but I did reach a healthy weight. So just know that PCOS does not mean you will fail with the band. Good luck to you all.

my motivation for the band was for a few things
    1. i am studying to become a doctor of physical therapy and i felt as if my obesity would cause patients to not take me seriously
    2. i am young and i missed out on countless opportunities simply because of my weight
    3. i knew that there was a sexy body somewhere underneath all of that fat and i was ready to see it after 10 years of morbid obesity
    4. and most importantly - for MYSELF. i could care less about what the world had to say, but my opinion of myself was so low. i didn't value or respect myself. the band was the start of a whole new me and a completely new chance at life.
    5. 8 days before my surgery, my high school sweetheart and i finally rekindled our romance and started dating for the second time. i knew that i was in love and i wanted to give him the best possible me i could give him because he deserves the best. now 16 months later, we already speak of our future and children. i am glad i made the decision to get health for both myself and for my future family.
16 months, 137 pounds lost, love and success found. getting the lapband was the true beginning of my life. every aspect of my life has improved - i'm currently on the deans list while studying for my bachelors in biology, the love of my life has loved me for who i was and who i am today, i got accepted into graduate school, and for the first time in my life i feel SEXY. it has honestly been the greatest blessing of my life. when one thing falls into place, the rest follows. i wish you the best of luck <3 stay positive !

So... I'm having trouble this week. My husband and I have been looking into the band for almost a month. We had a consultation. I had an EGD and found out I do have a hernia. We're making progress towards surgery... but I'm having trouble remembering that I'm doing this for me.
My #1 reason - I want to have a baby. Desperately. My husband and I agreed that I needed to lose weight to have a healthy pregnancy. We've tried everything and nothing would stick. Weight Watchers, HCG, diet and exercise, Slimfast... We'd do it for a while, not see much results, get discouraged and stop.
Well, since we started down the path to the band, I've been getting comments that I've never heard before - towards me or anyone. I'm sure b/c of my size things have been said behind my back. But WOW. I didn't know people could be so cruel. And of course, it had to happen AFTER I made the steps toward something that could actually help me be healthier.
I've never had a self-esteem problem. I like me, always have. I'm not getting the band b/c I think I'm ugly or unattractive. I want to be healthy. I want to start a family with the man I love. But these remarks are so hurtful and discouraging. It's hard to remember that this is for me. That I don't need other people's approval. That I'm not trying to prove them wrong.
What's your motivation? What keeps you going? How did you fight ugly-on-the-inside people before the band? And after?

Yes, your body is adjusting. You have lost a ton of weight already and your body's probably thinking, "Holy moly! What's going on here? Is she trying to starve us to death? How can we stop this weight loss? OK, metabolism, you slow down right this minute! Take as long as you want to burn those calories she's eating. The longer the better..."
Please don't feel disappointed in yourself. Everybody hits plateaus sooner or later no matter how hard they're working at healthy eating and exercise. If you're not eating more than you were before, you don't need a fill quite yet.
    Hang in there!

A couple of ppl have suggested I do this so here it goes. I have lost 100lbs yaaay in eight months. I honestly was at my wits end wit weightloss and thought I was stuck. Having the lapband was the best decision I ever made for myself. It has not been easy by any means and I work but butt off at the gym daily but it is worth it. For anyone that is scared of the procedure it can be done although the first few days are tough and just plain uncomfortable. Good luck to everyone on ur journey! I know mine has been worth every min pics comin soon...
