New Member: need help with failure feeling
Hi reader, I am 51 and can tell you that I like everyone else who posted here felt the same way. Particularly since I was older I felt like I should know better. But in the end, the result is what counts. How you got there as long as it was healthy isn't what is important. Being there is what counts and staying there. Good Luck on your decision and keep us posted.

Are they insensitive or am I over-sensitive?
Sorry. So I thought I had read on another thread you wrote that you had not had the surgery yet. I can understand why you would not want to cook right now. That is the last thing I wanted to do. Was just trying to help.

Walk, walk, walk and even though it hurts keep deep breathing. Use the machine they gave you. It really helps.

Hint for drinking soda..
It may take the fizz away in the glass but I don't think it stops the swelling in your stomach.

Exploring the World of Protein
There are some wonderful protein powders out there and it seems that everyone's taste is different but I have had no problem returning some I have tried. A lot of people on the forum seems to like Isopure but it made me gag literally. I love Syntrax brand powders called Nectar. I think they taste fabulous. I like the truffle in the morning with skim milk and I drink the lemonade with water in the afternoon. The truffle with 6 oz is about 25 grams of protein and the lemonade is about 15 grams.

Are they insensitive or am I over-sensitive?
She did offer to cook it sounds like by asking her mother what she wanted from the store. Her mother could have also given her a list and helped her cook it or something. I don't think you are being overly sensitive at all. It would have been one thing if you would have been in their home but they were in yours! What you say goes. You will probably need to be more assertive and really put your cards on the table with them. I have had several conversations with my mother about my visit with her on Sept 4th. She keeps wanting to go to the grocery before I get there and I keep telling her to wait that I will go and take her with me when I get there. It will be my Birthday while I am there and she keeps talking about how sad it is that she can't make me a cake. She has Celiac disease (allergic to wheat) so I told her we would make her favorite carrot cake and she can freeze it. That way I won't make her feel bad but I won't have to eat something I don't want to eat. I think it is just the ritual of her and I in the kitchen and baking that she would miss and not really whether I eat or not so this was to me the best alternative. I am not a carrot cake fan so it won't bother me. Good Luck to you and I hope you can find ways around there insensitivity. A lot of it is just ignorance on their part. Maybe you could show them the brochures and information you have gathered? Sit them down together and tell them exactly what you will be going through. There are videos online that actually show the procedure. Maybe it is time to open their eyes.

Your 1st goal and reward !!
Ditto here. I have already given myself a reward at my 30 lbs goal. I bought a handbag. I really nice one. It is kind of a birthday goal bag rolled into one because I didn't want to feel too guilty about it. My next mini goal is on Sept. 4th when I go on a plane to visit my mother. I want to be in onederland! I have 10 lbs to go and I am not sure I am going to make it but I am going to give it my best shot. At least I know the seat belt will fit!

Things I considering before surgery
I think a lot of us had those questions and feelings when we were in the consideration mode. It is a terrifying thing to think of at times. But now, with most of my fears behind me, I am so glad I did it! There is always that little bit of what if something goes wrong but I have decided to put that behind me right now and concentrate on the present and attaining my goals. Good Luck!

First Fill Experiences
Had my first fill on 08-04. I initially got worried because I hardly felt any restriction. Now, I am feeling restriction but I have off days when it seems as though I could eat anything. I don't mind you, but I sure feel like it. I made another appointment on 08-25 just to be sure what I am feeling is right. I have 4.6cc's.

2nd fill, was it too much? advice plz!
I was banded on 06-17 and I have 4.6cc's right now with one fill. At first, I felt like I could eat anything but now that I have had a fill for awhile, I am feeling the restriction better. I still have days when I seem to be more restricted than others. I figure it maybe because of what I eat is making me full faster and longer. I agree with Restless that it does seem to be really aggresive. I have decided I am actually glad my surgeon is going more slowly and I have time to recover from each event. It has made it much better for me.

Just getting started....
Jeremy, sounds like you are well on your way. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Yep...Sliming and PB...it happened!
Thanks for telling your experience. I haven't had that happen yet, but I am sure the day will come. I was banded just before you on 06-17. I have not really introduced breads into my meals yet. I have pretty much decided not to do the white bread starch at this point just for weight loss reasons. I have had some success so far with just meat and veggie so I am sticking with that. It does get boring sometimes though.

Brand new scale, broken? Gah.
Bed, Bath and Beyond should replace the scale receipt or not. Take it in and explain it was a gift. They will usually replace but they won't usually return for cash.

To eat or not to eat???
I try to stay on a pretty tight schedule and eat at the same time each day. What I do if I am not hungry is drink fluids. I have a protein lemonade instead of my meal and then wait until the next time I have scheduled myself to eat. If I get hungry in between then I figure it is my own fault and I suck it up and get my mind off of it by doing something like hitting the treadmill or doing a chore I have been putting off. I got to clean out my closet for the first time yesterday and boy did it feel good. I tried everything on because I wasn't sure about some things that had been in there awhile and I was stunned at some of the things that fit me really well that I had not been able to get into for a long, long time. It helped energize my determination.

could this be a sign of slippage???
Call your surgeon asap and let them know what is going on so they can tell you what to do.

Tiny fills....
My surgeon tried 5cc's for my first fill and it was too much so she took out .4cc's and I now have 4.6cc's. At first I thought it wasn't going to work. It seemed like I was hungry and didn't feel the restriction. That was on 08-04. Now, it seems to be tightening up and I feel the restriction better. But I also have bad days and better days. Sometimes I feel it really well and then the next day I seem really hungry and can eat more. It seems to be something you have to play with until you hit the proverbial "sweet spot" as they say. I'm not there yet but still losing weight.

Got to get my eyes on the prize!!!
I still have a protein shake every morning with my chewable vitamin. I use it with skim milk and it is my meal replacement. I eat twice a day from there. A small meal for lunch and a smaller meal for dinner. Sometimes, I only eat either meat or veggie for dinner or just drink something depending on my hunger factor. I also use Lemonade protein powder 1 or 2 times throughout the day depending on my schedule. It helps me get the protein in and the liquid. You just need to be careful with which one you choose and count it in your caloric intake. Mine has 60 calories (no calories from fat) and 15 grams of protein. No snacks. No sweets with the exception of the protein in the morning which my powder is chocolate flavor. It takes care of my craving.

3rd times a charm
Congrats on being banded and welcome to the forum! The liquid stage is rough and the mushie stage is pretty good until you get the hungries before the first fill. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Anyone else experiencing side effects they didn't foresee?
Who you tell and who you don't is a very personal decision. I chose not to tell the world and I am still having some issues with people around me because my loss is obvious now. Not everybody has family and friends that will be supportive. It depends on your circle and how they are toward you. Only you can make the choice. I am glad I kept most out of the loop. I am finding that I have been able to depend on the people I chose to tell and I don't worry about the rest.

Slipped Band-HAPPY ENDING!
Congratulations on being banded again! I am so sorry for your troubles but so glad you posted. It is so good to hear a success story come out of a nightmare.

To fill or not to fill, that is the question?
I agree with Plain except to say that I felt exactly like you at first and about 3 to 4 days before my fill appointment, I wanted to eat everything in site and had to struggle to stay focused and not eat too much. I have read threads very similar to this one and most everyone seems to have the same type of experience. Not saying everyone but a lot do. You can always cancel up to 24 hours before hand so I would wait as long as possible and see how you feel. Then make up your mind.

Met with surgeon, now I'm upset/confused
It is very difficult to make the decision and ultimately only the both of you can make it. I think definitely the surgeon has his own agenda and you should run not walk away from that. Research and find a surgeon you are comfortable with that will help educate you and help you make your own decisions. But someone that will be supportive and promote aftercare for whichever surgery you choose.

Today's the Day
Glad you are home and doing ok. I know it is painful and a little difficult at first but you will get through it. Sounds like your surgeon is a bit conservative but as is posted on here many times, it is better to go slow at first. It really seems to prevent numerous problems down the road. Good Luck!
