Most sleeve Drs out of country?
I went to Mexico for a number of reasons. One was that my insurance said they wouldn't pay for it and I wasn't willing to jump through their hoops to try to reverse the decision. Secondly, even if they had said they would pay, the surgeons in my town had little to no sleeve experience. Sleeve experience was high on my list. Third, I was in a hurry. I was able to arrange the Mexico surgery rather quickly.

Out of the twos!
The ONE's is a great place to be. Just think of the next time you go to the doctor and they are schooching the thing over on the scale - they will stop before the TWO. Hooray!

Lack of interest in food
I agree. eggs used to be my go-to food. Always handy and easy to fix. Now I can't tolerate them. They don't want to go down unless they are poached. I have to force the food in to get the Protein in. You get so many more grams of protein per ounce than other options.

Problem with eating-HELP!
I have the same trouble. Anything with a little density just doesn't seem to like going down. It only takes a few bites to be 'full' and feel as though it will back up. I'll try chewing even more.

Regrets?
No regrets here. I'm a happy camper. I think that stalls are EVIL, but they do end. I only have about a half of an ounce until I'm officially 'fat'. It's been a while since I was there.

How much help do you need when you get home?
I was in the hospital for three days and was totally self-sufficient when I got home. I was alone. As posted above, do not lift over 15 pounds and I wouldn't reach far above my head.

Dr. Aveves patients
I lost 14 pounds pre surgery. I was doing shakes for breakfast and lunch with snacks of cheese or pieces of turkery in between if I got hungry. Then for dinner I had protein and a vegetable.

Another question about Dr. Aceves
Mine was removed before the recovery room.

Another question about Dr. Aceves
Then opt out. You may have a rougher first day of recovery or may need more post op pain meds, but only you can judge what you are willing to endure.

Anyone traveling to Mexicali at end of the month?
You've got it covered and more.

Another question about Dr. Aceves
I was alway opposed to spinals because I didn't want anybody messing with my spine. I even had two HUGE babies with nothing. BUT, WASA advised me to do the spinal and I did. I specified that it be done after I was out.

Being informed
If I want a cup of coffee, I drink a cup of coffee. It may not be every day, but I do drink it.

My 18 year old wants VS
All good advice. My concern would be that she fully understands that her eating habits will change for life. Is she mature enough to make that decision or does she think it is a cure all? It is not a magic bullet, but a tool. The hard work is done by you, and it is hard work initially. She has to be prepared mentally for this. I love the advice of having her meet with a counselor both before and after the surgery. It will be a major adjustment for her.

Reflections from a Fat Chick
Are you going to St. Thomas? Actually we should take this to PM or phone. I can tell you about the islands.

Cool. I love the Caribbean. We are doing the Mexico thing. We don't even care if we get off of the ship but it is far less expensive than spending a week at the beach in a hotel. We just drive to Long Beach and catch the ship. My son is coming down from Canada with his family. My daughter, her fiance, his daughter and her son are going too. They are getting married on the ship.

How was the upper G.I.? I have never had one but heard that barium is the worst. Did they make you drink much? What did they tell you after that? So you are going to do it again? Do you think it was worth doing? I'll contact the other two ladies. As I said, august is murder. I only have the 29th and then slip all the way til 9/19. Do either of these work for you or is it too soon to plan? Bearded can be our rose amongst the thorns. lol

3 weeks out and eating everything in site
I removed my post and will give the benefit of the doubt. It just did not seem plausible. I can't even get 1/4 of anything dense in and I'm much further out. Maybe two cups of broth, but I even doubt I can do that.

My August is shot. I will either have company or be out of state for almost the entire month but I'd sure like to meet up with some of you. I have a wedding in San Diego the end of August and am thinking of staying over an extra day and going for a 3-month check up with Aceves. How many of you have done that? How necessary is it? They said they would do blood work and a barium xray.
