For Those Who Got Gastric Sleeve Surgery And Have Toddlers Or Small Children
I am 10days post op and have my 2.5 yr old god son I care for about 2-3 days a week- I also worried about this- When I came home from the hospital (he knew I was going to the Doctor... lol) he wanted to see and kiss my boo boos- after he saw them he was so caring and gentle- I have a pillow pet that I kept on my belly when he climbed on the recliner with me- as far as lifting- I brought in the step stool and he thinks he is a "big boy" now and moves it around the kitchen if we need antyhing- For the most part it hasnt been hard. He is able to climb into and out of the tub so that wasnt a worry/challenge. Not that this is the same but I have a dog- that cannot jump on his own due to arthritis and old age- so in the first few days my hubby lifted him in the middle of the night but now he will half jump and half use the doggie stairs because I think he knows that mommy isnt right... Hubby had to lift him into and out of the tub for his bath too.. Oh and this past weekend he wanted to see my booboos again and thanked Jesus that I had no more owies.(because he saw no bandages). if only he knew .

Protein Shake A Must?
I also don't know why people cannot find pre-mixed drinks- I'm not going to say that I love them but I have only found a few that are absolutely un-tolerable. I too mix powders (pre op- too soon post op) with peanut butter and bananna and it is delish I agree- I love the bananna cream muscle milk and the pure protein frosty chocolate- they both are very tood and not too sweet- The Adkins mocha cappacino is good to and it is a great substitute for not being able to drink coffee now...

3 Day Post Op And Not Eating Enough
I am 10days post op and did have problems the first few days as well- my RN @ the hospital gave me some medicine cups and everytime I needed a sip I would pour it in there and drink from it- it was 1 oz. Now that I am at home and recovering (slowly) when I am watching TV i have found that when a commercial comes on I sip- It works. Granted sometimes I miss 1 or 2 but for the most part it is reminding me to sip something- I'd like to say it gets easier and it does but very s-l-o-w-l-y... good luck!

Gastric Sleeve Incision Split Open?
I agree- call your doc- I wanted to put neosporin on mine too to help with healing/scarring and my doc said NO not now- they are healing from inside out and it isnt healthy to have a "wetness" on the wounds. They need to "air dry".

Does Any One Else Not Like The Feeling Of Food In Their Gastric Sleeve?
Granted I am only 1 week out and of course I cannot stomach the thought of eating- I tried to increase to fuller thicker liquids and got nausea each time and have slimed several times- after s/w my doc this am he said to go back to thinner liquids and just take it easy- concentrate on the protein and hydration- I did go out with my hubby for dinner- I ordered soup tried the broth and wanted to hurl. I dont know if it was the nerves because the watiress couldnt beleive I ONLY wanted a CUP of soup for my meal or the noise or the smell etc... I do know that in the last week I have gone from loving food to dreading it and often times being around it makes me gag- the smells are the worst... I hope it gets better- I have always loved food and loved to cook- I hope that in the future I can get past this... @debiC- Why dont you like protein shakes?? I have found some really tasty ones that are not bad at all- msg me if you would like me to share... My problem wtih them is that they need to be cold or made into a smoothie and I dont like cold stuff right now...

Mushies Tomorrow!
The best way for me to describe sliming is that you throw up the last thing in your gut but it isnt like before sleeve/band throw up- it is just like sitting there and it comes up with a bunch of saliva (slimy). It is gross but at the same time often a relief because for me (when I had my band) it signified that I had a) eaten too much or ate too fast. Congrats on graduating food groups- I am still unable to tolerate anything non-liquid except for yogurt- and it takes me about an hour to eat it...

finding satiety versus feeling full
Although I am only 1 week from my revisioin- I have to admit that it is difficult changing the mentality of will it get stuck to will it be too much?? The diet post op has not been bad because I have been through the "process" before BUT because you can only eat 2-3 tsp at a time and go HOUR and HOURS before ever "feeling" hungry or the alarm going off to remind you that you have to eat has been the most difficult for me.. All in all- i'm SOOOOOOOOO glad i'ts over and onward to a healthier life with NO foreign body in my body!!

Sleepy After Eating
Although I am only 1 week post op- I have the same thing- I will be yawning like crazy @ the table then konk out for 15 min or so when done- sitting up in my lazy boy of course....

2 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Op..why Am I Hungry?
I am 1 week post op and have "felt" hungry maybe 3 times. I have to FORCE myself to eat/drink something. I have ABSOLUTELY no desire to eat. I am getting in about 32 oz every day between water, broth, soup, protein drink etc. Not that i'm not happy don't get me wrong but it just seems like so weird to not eat..... Maybe once I get back to work and get on a schedule like may others reccomend it will be different. but for now.. I feel like i'm consuming for strength alone....and healing from the actual surgery..

Update On My Gastric Sleeve Revision
I had my band out and sleeve done all at once BUT there were no complications with my sleeve- it was in perfect posistion, no erosion, no slippage, no problems. I think since you have erosion the need for you to heal in between would be important but then again there might be a doctor willing to do both at once- worth looking in to- Good luck!

Must I Exercise Every Day?
I am a zumba-holic and it is KILLING me that I cannot resume for at least 6 weeks!!! Walking to me is SOOOOO boring but It is something I know I have to do.... I think the important thing is to find something that you like and stick with it-

Need Suggestions For Protein Sources Other Than Protein Powder
I'm 1 week out and also am having a problem with this- I have found that EGG drop soup is not only satisfying but really good source of protein. My doc also said that was a great protein choice. I can only have in small increments but it is worth a shot- I don't have a problem with the pre-made drinks except for now they are a bit sweeter and too much to drink at once- I'm thinking of making a "shake" freezing it in ice cube trays and then using them like popcicles... just for variety- I tried SF pudding but that didnt go well- too thick I think. But I am going to try some smashed up sweet potatoes tomorrow- and hopefully incorporate cottage cheese as well. I think this next week the protein will be a little better than this last week.

Brushing Your Teeth And Gagging After Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
I have/had a terrible gag reflux before and after (no change) BUT I am noticing that I feel like I need to brush my teeth more often (normally twice a day)- I feel like my mouth is grainey or coated after the protein drinks etc.. I'm sure it is the sugar because I normally dont drink that kind of stuff.... But good question

1st Post Gastric Sleeve Op Appt...5 Days Post Op
1st post op this am... Drain out !! THANK GOD!!! Stuff to drink is/was nasty- I have a terrible gag reflux but thankfully no leaks- Drain came out- a bit uncomfortable but not painful.. 18lbs lost since pre op so I'm happy- I can graduate to thicker full liquids and pureed foods so i'm going to try some mashed sweet potatoe tomorrow YAY :Banane55: ... I have found that the japanese soup spoon works great while "eating"... it equals about an ounce so 4-5 of them and i'm stuffed with soup that is....Tried to have some SF pudding and that didnt resonate well; not sure if it was the thickness, the milk or what but no biggie... Anyone lurking thinking abou this; I'm only 5 days out and i can honestly say GO FOR IT!! it's totally worth it....

What kind of Protein drinks?
I love nectar protein, muscle milk light, pure protein, adkins- I havent really found many to be "that"bad.. Not that I would want to spend the rest of my life drinking them but in small doses they are not bad.

As Anyone Done Medifast Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
Eventually you will have to go on "regular" food. You have the sleeve to learn how to re-train your body and brain to work together and control your intake- As with any liquid diet when you go back on "regular" food there will obvioulsy be a gain because you cannot possibly be getting all the nutrients alone in liquid form. I would talk to your doctor if you are at a lull- discuss what you are doing for exercise; often times that can be changed just once a week to re-vamp your system. Or talk to your nutritionist about an alternative that has foods you like that are healthier choices.

Thanksgiving Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery
I will be 7 days post op on Turkey day- I did get a ham for my hubby and will be cooking some sides for him- I will be having broth/soup and enjoying his company- He told me to chew the ham in my mouth and just spit it out- sounds yummy AND gross but I dont think i'm going to risk it. Too much of a tease.... I am however hoping that my doc will let me eat some cranberry sauce (from a can) that is sort of like jello constiancy-- that would be ok with me

Hungry Girl 5 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Op!
I don't "miss" eating food persay... but I am envious a little when sipping my soup while hubby is eating.... But having said that- I am so happy I did what I did... I agree with Lissa that the warm things seem to "curb' the hunger better and are more satisfying.. i have been having soup, broth, protein water and drinks. Tried some sugar free pudding and it was way too much- I also tried a go-gurt and it was good but a bit too sweet- It is all trial and error at this point- Having been through this with the lap band- I pretty much knew what to expect- my problem is changing my mind set from it may get stuck to it only takes a few tsp to fill up now...

Gastric Sleeve Surgery On Wednesday
I'm 5 days post op and not having any problems @ all.. I am actually amazed at how good I am doing- I have no pain and only discomfort; feels like I did a bunch of sit ups. I did really good "eating" my 1st day home, not so hot on Sunday and yesterday did fair. I am managin with broth, my protein water and some protein drinks- VERY SLOWLY and I am using a medicine cup as well- it helps s you a) dont gulp and dont take too big of a sip- Last night I had some sugar free pudding that didn settle right- Trying to discern between acheyness and hunger- not sure yet if I have felt hunger though- I am sipping everytime I pee and then every 15 minutes drink a medicine cup sip( which is about 1oz) Showering enabled me to feel MUCH better and I have just been laying low... I hope you feel better soon! and I agree- if you are in pain- take your pain meds but if hives continue talk to your doc..

Officially Unbanded And Totally Sleeved!
Surgery was a success; no problems; speedy recovery- am already home resting- very little pain- only some tenderness @ site of drain and some nausea- I feel like I just did 100 sit ups is the best way to describe the discomfort. But I am happy that my worry and anxiety was for nothing and am glad to be home and resting. So happy to be part of this family and begin my new life journey :0
