  1. I guess I shouldn't assume that most people had to have them. I thought since my doctor required it that most people were in the same boat. Anyway, my doctor has everyone undergoing bariatric surgery give themselves lovenox injections twice a day for 2 weeks to prevent blood clotting. Yes, I still had to walk everyday, but this was just a precautionary method. Anyway, glad it's over now.
  2. Lindsay, everyone is different, so I guess it depends on you! I have read on here that it's very common to stop losing for a couple of weeks once you begin the mushy phase, but once your body gets adjusted, you start to lose again. Don't let this discourage you, I'm sure you'll be very successful. Good luck tomorrow!
  3. I've heard that alot of people like this water, I'm gonna have to give it a try!
  4. Thanks for the reply Sandi. I was just curious because a few days after surgery, I experienced some tingling in my thigh and a little pain. I just thought it was the pinched nerve I have acting up, but I'm not 100% convinced. I guess if it doesn't get better by tomorrow, I'll call my doc.
  5. So, I gave myself my last Lovenox injection today, I'm very excited. I hate shots. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone experienced any side effects from the shots? Not just common ones like bruising, etc, but anything more unusual? Thanks!
  6. I think alot of people think that way, that it's taking the easy way out. It really isn't. Wait til he sees all of the hard work you have to go through, it will change his mind. He should be proud of you for taking any step towards getting healthier, not discouraging you. My boyfriend has been supportive since day one, and I am truly thankful of that because I couldn't have made it this far without his support.
  7. I'm in the same boat. Was banded May 20th and lost 6 pounds in 5 days after surgery. However, got on the scale Monday and saw that I had stayed the same. I am not weighing myself now until my first fill, which is the 29th. I've spoken with lots of members on here who have gone through the same thing {as you can see with the replies to this thread!}. Our bodies are just adjusting to the drastic change. We just need to keep our heads up and we'll make it through! Don't get discouraged!
  8. On my pre op diet, I was allowed one meal a day of fish or chicken. However, it was really hard for me at the beginning. Just try to stay as busy as you can so you aren't focused on food or being hungry. You'll find the first few days really really difficult, but it gets better after that. I lost 15 pounds during my 2 week diet. That kept me motivated as well, getting on the scale and seeing a difference. Just try to keep your head up!
  9. Same here Juniper. I have a history of kidney stones as well, including one that happened 5 days before surgery. Anyway, I was told to drink as much plain water as possible. But like you said, for everyone else, the mixed kind counts as well.
  10. Thanks spideymom, because I know for a fact that I was very discouraged after stepping on the scale. I know it's to be expected, but it's still disappointing because we're working so hard! I cannot wait for my first fill, but sadly it's not until the 29th. Oh well. I'll keep plugging away! Eileen, you can go to tickerfactory.com and make your own ticker, and birthstonetext.com for the mayo banditos. Once you make them, paste the code into your signature, which you can do under "user cp" at the top of the page!
  11. I would call your doc and ask just to be safe. Oddly enough, they took the bandages off of me after surgery and I haven't had to wear any bandages over my incisions at all. I was told just to wash with soap and water everyday. I've been doing that, and they are healing great!
  12. jazzy, I'm having the same problem. Banded 2 weeks ago, lost 6 pounds in 5 days after surgery, then weighed myself yesterday and stayed the same. Now, I've talked to people on here who say it's completely normal. But I went to a support group last night and my nurse said I should be losing something. I'm super frustrated.
  13. That's awesome news Sarah! I can't wait to have a scrambled egg too! lol
  14. Thanks Trisha for the reply! Good luck June 1st!!!!
  15. I was banded a week ago and had my followup appt and on my next stage sheet, I was surprised to see that my doctor said that pita bread was ok to have. Now I knew we could have crackers and toast in moderation, but pita bread? If this is true, I'm thrilled. I'm part Arabic and pita bread is a huge part of diet. I know I wouldn't be able to eat it like I used to, but to even have it once in awhile is awesome. So, has anyone else been told that pita bread is ok?
  16. Hey there, I can feel my port right under my skin as well. Right now I'm a bit obsessed with it. I look at it alot because it freaks me out. I really hope it's just swollen and won't continue to be this bump on my stomach forever! Anyway, I haven't had sex since being banded and won't until July when I see my boyfriend, so hopefully by then it won't be a problem! Good luck in your sexcapades. lol.
  17. ok so I'm trying to get my walking in but am DYING to ride my stationary bike. I saw my doctor for followup today and that was the one question I forgot to ask! What have your doctors said as far as exercise go? I know I'll end up calling my surgeon and asking, but thought I'd put the question out there...
  18. I did that on my pre op diet. It got so bad, that when I had my surgery last week, I asked my sister to hide my scale from me until Monday mornings. That's when I will weigh myself from now on. Otherwise, I'd be on it every hour!
  19. I feel the same way Julie! It's so great to come here and have other people who are going through the exact same thing. It's comforting! We all need to stick together and continue to share our journeys on here!
  20. Hey Julie, I just want to say that I am so sorry about your nephew and your sister. I hope everyone is ok. And don't even think twice about those couple of bites of food, you realize what you've done and you've moved on. No one is perfect and we all mess up sometimes! I'm 7 days post op, haven't slipped up, but that doesn't mean I won't somewhere down the line. Hopefully I don't but we're only human and we can only do the best we can. Continue to stay on track and everything will be fine! Congrats!
  21. johnsonsnickers, good luck tomorrow! It will be fine! And I agree, the Banditos are the best. You guys have all been really nice and helpful!
  22. Thanks for the replies guys! Scorpio, when were you banded? I cannot wait to even eat mashed potatoes, which is my next stage, which I hope I cleared for tomorrow when I go see my doctor for followup!
  23. Hi everyone, just thought I'd compare to see what everyone else is doing! Right now, I had my surgery May 20th, so one week ago, and I'm on stage 3 {full liquids}. I've been having my protein shakes and blended soup, jello, popsicles. I'm so sick of it! What stage are you guys at and what are some different things you are eating? Thanks!
  24. Ok so my post op paperwork says to take a laxative 3 tabs orally if no bm for 2 days after surgery. Well my mom got me those, but I am scared to try taking them, because I haven't had any pills unless they are crushed, and you can't crush these. I'm hesitant to call my doc to see if it's ok, because I've already called a couple of times about other stuff. Did anyone have to take laxatives to go to the bathroom? If so, is it ok to swallow them whole? Thanks.
  25. thanks everyone for the responses. I am having lots of problems sleeping still. I slept in a recliner the first night and that was ok, last night tried to sleep laying on my back and that was fine, but I also have a pinched nerve that makes my thighs burn and tingle if I lay on my back to long. So with that, I'm miserable. I want to sleep on my side so badly, but the port site really hurts if I even try. I guess it'll be the chair again tonight, and maybe the couch tomorrow night. We shall see. Thanks everyone!
