catfish87 reacted to B-52 in Fill still no restriction
My first fill was 4cc, one month after surgery.....after that first fill I gained weight!!
It was not till after my 2nd fill did the band start to do it's job, and then took another fill after that.....
But you have to ease into it! Imagine if the band was not adjustable and right at surgery everyone got a band that is comparable to being filled to 7cc!!
We all would not know what to do.....it would be a disaster...but after 3 fills that is what I have...7cc's, and each fill I HAD TO ADJUST to the band to make it happen!!
And now I have been at the balance point for over 18 months now, where my portions are limited, and I am very rarely ever truly hungry.....

I know of no bander who has died from the liquid diet. It sounds melodramatic bu hardly realistic. Keep on plan and this will pass soon. Do allow for the time to completely heal inside. You will be glad you did!

I completely understand and agree with everything you are feeling. I'm 38 with a 7 and 4 year old. I hate that it has come to surgery but I feel this is the best step to take for my future and the future of my children. I want to play with them. I want to take them to Disney World and enjoy it! I am on my last day of the pre-op diet. It really went by much faster than I thought. You can do it! My surgery is tomorrow at 9am. I'm very nervous about being put to sleep but know that this is the best decision for me! Good luck with your pre-op diet. SF Jello and chicken broth have been my best friends!

Thank you ladies for your encouraging words. You brought tears to my eyes. I actually decided to start my liquid diet two days early! My son is begging me not to do it. He keeps telling me, "I love you like this Mom"! I am educating him as I go. Fingers crossed... Blessings and best wishes to you both!

This isn't going to make you happy, but I'm going to be honest with you.
I am an October bandster with 1-3cc fill still in bandster hell.I really should have had a second 2cc fill, but it has been delayed for a couple wks.
This is a time we have to be strong and remember how badly we want this.
Stick to the bandster rules, work through your hunger by keeping busy. Its about mind over matter right now.
I'm sure all of us were able to diet for a few months in the past, thats what we have to do now. The band will kick in, my Dr promised me.lol. Hang in there!

I read most of the posts here from all the different people, I like to hear different people's experiences, good and bad....
One thing that is always re occurring, is people saying how they "Fell off the wagon" and "Need to get back on track"
Now I know I'm going to get flamed for this by the "Know it all's" But personally, I do not understand how that can happen...(Short of a medical problem)....
Either your band is adjusted to where you are in the Green Zone, or it's not!! To me, that is the only thing that is important...
Two characteristics of the Green Zone is HUNGER CONTROL, and PORTION CONTROL.....yet I read posts about how people say they were doing fine, then started to eat anything and everything in sight...out of control...Does Not sound like being in the Green to me....
Speaking for myself, When I eat, I eat until I cannot eat anymore...I don't measure or pre determine portion sizes...the band will let me know when to stop eating...it's that simple.
The other day I brought home Chinese take-out...sat down and began to eat to where I knew I had to stop...threw the rest away!!!
It was physically impossible to eat anymore...even if I wanted to....
IF I were to measure what I ate, I know I would have found it to be VERY LITTLE....some would say way too little....
The 2nd issue is Hunger....I'm sitting here, it's 4 am, and I am having my coffee....thinking about it as I type this, I AM NOT HUNGRY, and I have no desire to eat anything....the last time I ate was around 6 pm yesterday, 16 hours ago?
I will take 15gm Protein along with my Vitamins and omega's, and head to the gym when they open at 6am.
After my workout I will have a high protein recovery shake......then that will be it until this afternoon....(plenty of Water though)
My point is, being in the Green, these things now come natural to me....circumstances such as parties, stress and emotional issues, etc, etc, cannot change what has been surgically done......
I travel all over the country on business, vacations, cruise at least once a year...have had deaths in the family,....my daughter had a big wedding.....everything everyone else experiences, but none of it can change the band....that would take an adjustment....
So when I read these stories about "Getting back On Track" or "Falling off the Wagon", I get a little confused...but out of personal respect I keep my mouth shut...it's not my place to tell anyone they are right or wrong....
But what I can do is type here MY experiences with the band and how it all works for me.....
I know I'm in the green....have been for about 20 months now...and from my view point the only thing that matters is whether you are in the green or not...and if not, Why?
Didn't mean to step on anyone's toes...just my opinion, now let the "Know it All Police come out of the woodwork"....

UPDATE: My first appeal was denied. The letter said I didnt have enough documentation . I also called and spoke with a woman at my insurance company that said they want wls patients to be at least 18 months post surgery. So That put me out until September. From April to September I went to the doctor for every rash. In August I began to develope severe back pain much like what I had before i had a breast reduction. So the doctor put me in physical therapy. Even my physical therapist agreed I would greatly benefit from having the surgery done. In October I obtained all of my medical records and by end of november it was submitted. They denied it in less than 24 hours. My surgeons office looked into it and said that for some reason only 15 out of 50+ pages that were subitted were received. I appealed stating this in my letter. It took them less than one week to deny that appeal too stating that they reviewed EVERYTHING and that is just wasnt enough to make them cover it. I at that point decided to pay out of pocket. My husband and I were gearing up do what was necessary. Then this past tuesday the surgeons offfice called and said she got and approval over the phone. I received the new approval letter yesterday and it stated that the remaining 33 pages they didnt get were due too FED EX never delivering them. The new notes were then faxed and an approval was given stating I met all criteria. So I am scheduled for Feb 5. I am beyond excited. But nervous too, as I always am when I am going to have a big surgery. SO Thank you for all the support and prayers. God has taken care of me. Please pray that I have a successful surgery with no complications and an easy relatively quick recovery because I have a 3 year old that is not going be happy if Mommy cant play for very long LOL

I have had my band for over seven years. It has been an overwhelming success for me. It took awhile for me to learn to slow down and chew my food more. I think that was the hardest part. I lost all of my weight in almost a year and have consistantly worn a size six. I still have to pay attention to what I eat, but do not diet anymore. I don't like to exercise so I do as little as possible when I feel like it. I did not get this surgery so I could diet and exercise more. You have to do a lot of searching and decide which surgery works best with your lifestyle. I discovered I was a volume eater. No emotional issues, I just liked to eat large portions. The band solved that. The reason I liked the band over all of the other surgeries, is it can be adjusted. No other weight loss surgery has this option. It just made sense to me. When you gain weight with the other surgeries what is your option? With the band you just get it adjusted. After 4 years I gained 15 lbs. I got the band adjusted and lost the weight. That was 2 1/2 years ago and I haven't needed any more adjustments. Just make sure you do your research and decide which surgery is best for you. Good luck.

To loose weight...It is all about burning more calories than you consume on any given day....always has been, always will be.......
All diets (which most of us failed at otherwise we would not be here) are aimed at getting us to eat less - less calories consumed......it is up to us to burn more than we consumed, and that is
something we have to do...no one can do it for us. There is no surgery for that.....
500 calories MORE than we consume per day if you want to loose 1 lb of weight per week.....talking real genuine fat weight...not the quick pre and post op weight everyone quickly looses (and gains) but genuine fat burning weight......

I didn't cheat either. It was so hard sometimes to stay on course but if I had an extreme craving I did the dishes, went shopping just kept myself occupied. Cravings pass....I'm currently at the start of week 2 post op liquids and though I've wanted to cheat on a few occassions I stick with it! New life, new habits!

Not once. 1 week Clear Liquids only. It was tough the first couple of days, but then wasn't as bad as I expected. The reward was better than the cheating would have been.

Elin Woods countered Tiger Woods' most recent re-proposal to marry again with a prenup demand that if he cheated, he would forfeit $335,000,000. For .01% of that same amount I vow to never cheat on my band again.

I did. I cheated 4 days in my preop. It was only once.. I get my surgery next Friday and I'm going to be perfect until then. My preop is low carb (under 20 a day) so I'm glad I get to eat! I dunno what I would do on liquid only..

Yes I did. I was on a 2 week liquid pre op diet (not personalized for me my dr puts all patients on a 2 week pre diet) I followed it very well. However, 3 days before surgery I went off it, by having the healthiest food I could find at a pre-Christmas party. I enjoyed every bite (and it wasn't many bites). Next meal, i was back to my liquid diet.< /p>
I do not beat myself up about it. I was happy I made healthy choices the one time I went off course. It did not mean I would be a lap band failure or a cheater post op. I lost 13 pounds on pre op and my liver was healthy for surgery.
My first 2 weeks post op were right through Christmas and New Years and I did not have the urge to cheat once. I am now on solids and followed the doctors post op diet to a t. I feel successful.
I am not saying go out and cheat. (And if you strayed a lot tell your doctor so they are informed and know what's best for you)
What I am saying forgive yourself and go back to the diet if you do. The pre op diet does not predict your post op diet success, but it does shrink your liver, get you used to eating less, drinking Protein Shakes and it sheds pounds. Good luck!
