  1. Pineapple is almost always problematic for me..... sadly, it was one of my fav fruits.
  2. Because I don't agree with your sky is falling approach to "educating", doesn't mean I or anyone else is ignorant or "lives in a bubble". Quite the opposite, maybe we have educated ourselves and realize your OPINION is just that...your OPINION. I'm glad you didn't try and educate my surgeon as you say you did yours.....he'd have laughed you out of town. Did they do that to you on OH?
  3. Not what I was thinking of...but oh well.
  4. If we could only have believed you.....
  5. Hi. You mention your doctor seems to "think there could be something wrong with the band". Why does he think this? Did they do a Upper GI/Fill using Fluoro? When was your "complete unfil" you mention above?
  6. That is so awesome! Congrats to you both.
  7. "bike riding is really good cardio" SO true. It helped change my life! I hated going to the gym, always found a excuse to not go. And it really was just an excuse in my case. But with advice from a friend, I started to cycle...bike riding in Feb 2012. I started out only able to do a couple of miles, before I was tired and out of breath. But even in the beginning, the feeling was incredible. I could do it! I had found something I liked...something I enjoyed that would help me get fit. So almost every day, I'd hit the bike trails...doing only a couple miles at a time the first week or so. GRADUALLY, over the course of weeks, building up to where I could really get a "workout". Within a couple of months, getting up to a longer distance/time...and by then, really starting to notice an improvement in cardio endurance....and the desire for more! So I continued that, just GRADUALLY building distance, until this past June, I rode my first century ride (100 miles). I suppose thats similar to what a runner feels when they complete a marathon, although I don't know....yet.... I got a newsletter from my surgeons office a couple of months ago. An article in it said "Cycling leads to running" and it got me thinking.... Could it really be possible that I could run now? I had read on here from some REALLY successful folks about the feeling they get from running..."runners high" they describe. So...once again with some help/suggestions/motivation from folks on here, I decided I was going to try it. On July 22nd, I Ran my first 2 mile run. I couldn't believe it!!! It was slow by the runners standards....but I did it. Two days later, I ran a 5K and have done 27 5K's and one 10K run since then. And I'm really starting to enjoy it, thanks to a great coach and friend from this very site. But it ALL started with that first bike ride for me....two miles. My point, just find whatever it is you enjoy and stick with it. You don't really NEED a gym to get healthy. As mentioned above....a jump rope can provide A FANTASTIC workout...for less than $5. Its you.....its all you....that makes the difference. If I can do it, anybody can. See you in a Triathalon soon?
  8. What a positive attitude! Congrats on your determination. Thats really the most important part, IMO. Best wishes
  9. I was talking with a person at work last night about my HRM. It is without a doubt in my mind, the best money I have spent concerning "exercising". I use a Garmin 310xt. I use it for cycling and now running. It keeps track of almost anything you could want...automatically uploads it to GarminConnect. I actually was talking to folks on here back in the spring about this topic. Theres a lot of different ones available, but I'll never be without one again. You can use just a strap with several smartphones too. Many, many apps that show lots of good info. But Im partial to my garmin. Heres an example of what it shows: Running http://connect.garmi...ivity/376604157 Cycling http://connect.garmi...ivity/373124229
  10. Congrats! You've done great! We were banded the same month....a couple weeks apart.
  11. Thank God! If I need an expert. .. I'll go to my Surgeon. All you do. ... every post is tell people how they must do this or can't do that or else the sky will surely fall. I've been posting on here quite a while. .... and never said this about anyone. ... even people I don't agree with. But you are something else. And I'm talking about you NaNa.
  12. An Olympic distance Triathalon. And running with my friend and coach Steph. Maybe even a half Ironman.....I really need to get in the pool.
  13. I agree, it's pretty much up to you....just experiment over time and find your comfort level, and a level of restriction that helps you achieve your goals. If I paid attention to every post that said you can't do this or you must do that.... I'd be scared to death!! I had some oysters just Sunday... with a crab cake and a few bites of Cajun rice... when I stopped for lunch during my bike ride. Yummy!
  14. After discussing eating habits with NUT and then surgeon, if an adjustment is needed, they now have me stand on the Fluro Tilt table, locate the center of the port, then insert the needle while standing.... They've say they have found at my surgeons office, this causes LESS discomfort for some patients. I've never had any numbing medicine...hardly even feel the stick. Years ago, they used to have me lie down while inserting the needle. Didn't hurt at all for me that way either. They then remove the Fluid, check for any discoloration, amount, etc. Then have me drink a little bit of barium contrast.....through a straw....and adjust as needed while watching my restriction level.
  15. See what a difference a day can make! Glad you're feeling a bit better already. Don't worry about the 22nd.... just today.
  16. For me, I usually notice the greatest amount of restriction about two weeks after an adjustment. I think it's because I baby it early on... then just go back to eating normal. .. the new normal.
  17. GREAT job! Congrats on your success!
  18. Yes...that sounds good as well! I enjoy a protein smoothie or shake quite often myself. You will find such a wide assortment of powders, drinks, etc. I was just saying FOR ME, the 42 grams that come in a tube of the New Whey Liquid the OP mentioned is too much AT ONCE.
  19. LOL....they aren't what I'd want to drink to celebrate with, but they are a good choice for protein. Just my experience, the 42 gram ones will give me a belly ache If I take it all at once. I usually will only do half at a time....hold your nose and down it goes. just try not to taste it.
  20. And every pound lost, is twice as good as a pound gained. Congrats! You're off to a great start!
  21. Sorry to hear of your issue. I have flown several times with a pretty tightly restricted band....without the symptom you describe. Did you have any issues prior to your flight? Possibly eat something that has caused some irritation? I hope youre feeling better soon!
  22. I so hear ya! Couldn't believe some of the BS I was seeing on here the last couple of days. Someone sayin' "don't listen to your nurse" You're not allowed to eat THAT! ...do as I say. Wow..... Really?? I guess she's a expert now...a couple months post op. And then a new "old timer" expert that has came out of the woodwork the last month or so spouting......"you must", "you shall", "you can't", "I know because I have 8 years experience watching, listening, studying, etc." Give me a break....
  23. Sorry to hear of your discomfort, but it will get much better soon! I'd suggest to try and walk around as much as you can tolerate, and sip your Water or other liquids ok'd by your surgeon. Some folks find anti-gas strips/liquid helps with the discomfort. It's not uncommon to hear the "buyers remorse" you are describing, but soon you'll be on your way to a new life! Take it one day at a time. Best wishes!
  24. Everyone can provide their own opinion, based on their experience, but I don't see you mention any symptoms that indicate you are "too tight". You don't mention anything about food or liquids not going down....just that you are scared to eat...and discomfort with liquids sometimes. Is it maybe a Protein shake/smoothie? I get discomfort sometimes if I try and drink a thick shake/smoothie...especially early in the day. Hear it all the time on here from successful people. "No heartburn, nausea, or vomiting." Those would/could indicate a problem...yet you don't have any of those symptoms. PB'ing occasionally, especially while learning a new restriction level....changed how I ate. Thank goodness it did! I needed it too... Belching....happens quite often for me. I don't think thats a sign you're too tight? A little discomfort when I ate too fast, OR even drank too fast, was/is a reminder to me to slow down! If I wouldn't have changed my eating habits.....I WOULDN'T HAVE CHANGED. But no matter what, certainly not dumb to ask those questions.... And If youre not quite ready for that restriction level...what could possibly be wrong with getting a bit removed? After all, ITS ADJUSTABLE for a reason. I wish you much success in your journey.
