  1. Halloween Treats Calorie Calculator: How Far to Walk Off the Trick or Treat Calories
  2. Hi Gracie, While it's very common to still be hungry on small meals before your first fill, there is something else going on here. You might consider rethinking your vegetable choices. Both corn and potatoes tend to be high glycemic foods. In very basic terms what this means is that these foods tend to make our blood sugar spike and then when the levels drop down again, we're hungrier sooner. :smile2: I'm not saying you can never have these foods, but if hunger is a problem.. making a change might help. Are there some green veggies you like? Broccoli, zucchini, yellow squash, green Beans, brussel sprouts are all lower on the glycemic index. Here's a list that might be helpful: Low Glycemic Index Vegetables This gives a basic explanation of the GI and it's effect on hunger: The Glycemic Index Hang in there, it gets easier with fills.

  4. My nutritionist says winter squash is ok, but to take it easy on it as it is higher in carbs than summer squash. Instead of 1/2 cup (like I do other veggies), I'd eat 1/4 cup or less. Moderation in all things. :smile2:
  5. I'm just about to finish my 64oz now. I drink 16 oz during my morning workouts, I make myself drink another 16oz before I let myself have lunch. Then 1 hour after lunch I start on the next 32 oz. Then there's the other things I drink, Powerade zero, hot tea, iced tea, crystal light.. etc. However, I am 18 months out from surgery. If you are recently banded you are not expected to be able to drink the whole 64oz right away, or at least, according to my doctor "it may be a while before you can get the whole 64oz in". Do your best and it will eventually get easier. Keep a bottle or glass of Water with you all the time. I like to play online computer games and make a point to take a sip everytime I score. Silly, but it works for me.
  6. Who told you you could only have cup of soup? If it was your doctor, call and clarify. Are you still in the liquids phase? You didn't give us much information. I had campbells soup from the can, thinned with chicken broth and whirled in the blender till there were no lumps. As time passed, I progressed to thicker n thicker soups. If it hurt to eat them, I knew I hadn't thinned them enough and back I'd go to the kitchen to add more broth. None of us know you or exactly what your doctor has in mind for you.. so your best bet is to call the office when they are open and ASK!!
  7. Take your measurements now.. and then again in a few weeks. You might be compacting and not realize it. Even though the scale is barely moving, sometimes our bodies are reshaping. Exercise is also good. Hang in there.. the graph of my weight-loss looks like rick-rack.. but overall it's downhill.
  8. Would you say cut some slack to a person who brought in alcohol when there was a recovering alcoholic in the house?? I'm not saying they can't eat it, there's plenty of places other than the house they can have it.... just don't bring it home.
  9. re "naughty bag" (love that name): Just say thank you and then throw it away when they've left or are not looking or re-gift it to someone w/o a weight problem. We're lucky in that we live out where no one trick or treats. Buying stuff you don't like is a good idea. Could you stash it somewhere you wouldn't have easy access to it till the big night? My dh brought home tortilla chips today.. I yelled at him to put them out of my sight .. mad that he bought them in the first place!!
  10. Do you mean Sept. 30th or were you banded almost a year ago? In either case, call your doctor. I know it's Sunday, but there should be someone to take call.
  11. It's not uncommon to gain a little bit when we return to "real" food. Don't beat yourself up if the scales do have numbers you don't like. I fight the tortilla chip demon too.. and saltines and any kind of crispy crunchy carb. The only solution for me is to not have them in the house. Doesn't work too well with 3 other people here who aren't trying to avoid carbs... LOL The only saving grace I have is that I'm the one who does most of the grocery shopping .. and I don't buy them (most of the time). If DH buys them, I ask him to put them in a cabinet out of my sight. Helps, but doesn't work 100%. Congrats on making through the liquids/mushy phase. When you start getting fills, and start getting some dimming of the appetite..it will be a little easier to fight the food demons. Keep in mind it may take more than 1 fill to get really good appetite control. Most of us have been where you are and made it through.. you will too.
  12. I was going to suggest the C25K program but Mariasha beat me to it. I wish I would've started it a while back, there's a 5K today I could've run if I had prepped for it. (and no, I can't even walk it yet.. walked my 3 dogs 1 mile last week and spent the next morning with awful cramps) Oh well, I'll get started for the next one.
  13. What did you mix the Syntrax with? I find it's too weak in flavor using Water. I have to use Powerade zero or crystal lite or something to give it more flavor.
  14. My doctor advises against straws to prevent swallowing of air. Says swallowing of air will increase discomfort from gas pains. This is his recommendation only for the immediate post-op period. After we quit having incision and gas pains we can use straws or not as we please.
  15. www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate.com is where I log my food choices. If you want to see my food journaling, email me for my user name there. I find the dailyplate to be the most comprehensive.. rarely do I have to add anything like I've had to at fitday or sparkpeople. It also has apps for blackberry, iphone and I think the droid now. Most of the things you'll need to use at dailyplate are free.. I've used it for over a year at the free level and has met all my needs.
  16. Ross is my new favorite place to shop.
  17. Your not really looking for "restriction" so to speak, but dimming of appetite. If you can eat your 3oz of Protein and 1/2 cup of low carb veggies and be satisfied for 3 to 5 hours, you're at a good place. You may not feel "full" on that amount of food, you may have to move away from the table and wait a bit to see if that amount satisfies you. I'm advised that if I'm still hungry 20 minutes or so after I finish my protein & veggies.. that I can have more veggies, provided they're not drowning in butter or sauce. And yes, sometimes it can take a week or two for a fill to make itself known. Give it time. I've never had a 4.5cc fill.. that would make me nervous too. My first was 1cc and all the rest have been smaller (.5 to .2 cc's). Hang in there, it will work for you if you follow the band guidelines most of the time.
  18. Don't worry about that. Everyone is different in how they react to the band. I was able to eat bread before my first fill too. Had a bacon sandwich.. I did have to chew it really well though. I didn't start having issues with bread until almost a year out, but I get very conservative fills as I have by and large relied on my food choices to facilitate my weight loss.. and not relied on my band to make the choices.. if that makes any sense? In other words, I quit eating bread (MOST of the time) before my band made me stop eating bread (by getting stuck, causing pain, etc.). I have yet to try pizza at a restaurant, (the advice to just eat the toppings came from another site where I read that's what another bandster did) but have made flat-bread pizza. It's good.. go to www.flatoutbread.com for recipes. The person who accused us of enabling you is a new bandster and is still on the high of their new journey. I can see where they might misunderstand what was said, but agree they were a bit judgmental. Your journey is not their journey is not my journey. We're all headed for the same destination, but have different paths and some have jets and others are on foot and others are on roller-skates. Hopefully we'll all get there, just some sooner than others. I'm enjoying the trip however long it takes. Have a good evening...
  19. I think it's 40 or 35 with co-morbidities (sleep apnea, diabetes, hypertension, etc.) for insurance to cover as a general rule. If she was self-pay, or had a very liberal & generous insurance policy, the BMI could be lower. I could be WAY wrong, but this is what I think I remember from reading other places.
  20. Chula Vista isn't that far (in Texas terms anyhow..lol) from San Diego. I found at least three in S.D. Support Groups - Scripps Health - San Diego Could you go to one of those? Or could you start your own? Or you could join an online support group or two or three. Check yahoo groups for lapband support. That's how I found the 3 I like. DFWbandsters, Smartbandsters, Smarterbandsters. And there's the forums at ObesityHelp.com too. Hope this helps.
  21. All of the above are good suggestions. I'd add one more. When you start noticing a plateau, take your measurements (neck, bust, waist, hips, arms, forearms, thighs, calves) and write them down somewhere. And pay attention to what you're wearing at the time of measurement. In a month, put on the same clothes (if they still fit!) and take your measurements again. I'll bet you'll see changes.. smaller numbers.. even if the scale isn't moving much. I've done that since May.. it really helps.
  22. I got sent home on Darvocet.. much weaker drug than vicodin or hydromorphine, so I understand where ya'll are coming from. One thing I would suggest, ~~ and maybe you're already doing this, I can't tell from your postings ~~ is to take your pain medication as often as it is allowed. Do not wait for the pain to start to take the meds. It's much easier to stay on top of the pain instead of treating it once it arrives. As time passes and you start feeling better (and you will!!), you can start gradually increasing the time between doses. It will get better, it just seems forever. I remember commenting to my husband that I had new empathy for those who live with chronic pain, because I was having a small dose of what those people live with every day. I agree with the others, please contact your doctor about the pain medication not being adequate. I was stupid (and mad.. I told them before surgery that Darvocet wouldn't be adequate and no one would believe me) and I took prescription strength doses of Ibuprofen, later to find out that it's a bad idea to take that with a band. So please call your doc. Hope you feel better soon.
  23. You need to report that to the support group leader or your doctor.. depending on where you heard them talking about you. Either way, it may be a violation of the HIPPA act. It would make me mad too.. but mad enough that I'd show up in my nicest looking outfit and kill them all with kindness.
  24. Tuna salad, chicken salad (put the chicken through the food processor to make it really shredded), egg salad, spaghetti sauce. My doctor says anything that you can mash with a fork qualifies. Even meatloaf if you mash it first. I'm trying to find Nicola Potatoes.. will probably have to grow my own. They are very low on the GI/GL list. Next on the list are New potatoes or red potatoes. My hubby used to make cauliflower potatoes when he was low carbing.. by the time he got through putting sour cream, cream cheese, butter in them I thought they were a heart attack ready to happen! If I make them now, I'd do all low fat...
  25. Here's a couch to 5K plan: Cool Running | The Couch-to-5K ® Running Plan It's a bit ambitious for ME.. I'd have to have a slower start, I think. But really I haven't tried it. I might be in better shape than I think as I have recently gotten to where I can do almost 40 minutes straight of step aerobics 2x week.. using the higher step. (started off with no step at all...6 or 7 months ago)
