gabybab reacted to allwet in 2 Year Surgaversary
So 2 years ago right now they were rolling me into surgery. My first ever time being put under and first ever overnight in a hospital since birth.
Would i do it again? yes in a heart beat
do i have Any regrets? No
I believe i would be dead right now if not for this surgery. All of my health markers were headed down and the rate of decline was increasing.
I owe Paula Duclo, Physician Assistant, my life for the day she walked in and asked if i would consider weight loss surgery. That started a nine month journey that she helped me navigate.
Did the first weeks suck? Yes. liquid diets and mushy soft food diets are not fun or interesting but those weeks don't last and you get better every single day.
3 weeks in and i was cleared to work out Lightly, as if i could have done any more.
I am surprised i went back after that first day. It was humiliating. I actually couldn't fit between some of the machines.
but i did, in the middle of the night 11 pm to 1 am when the place was empty and i worked up from 3 days a week to 6 days a week
as the weight came off and i was less conscientious of my shear bulk i started going at a more normal 6 am
I found this place and it helped to see others working thru the same journey in there own way.
It is very much your journey and it will not match up with anyone else. We can support each other and be there when we need to cry or vent but everything else is on you(me).
The decisions we make each day going forward. The new ways to approach food and the food choices we make will decide the level of success you can achieve and Maintain.
Maintenance. That's the magic word for me now.
Can i do this forever. Did i learn the needed new habits and new ways to approach food.
We will find out over the next 3-5 years.
For all of you new to this - be strong - you have made a great decision and a new lease on your life is in front of you.
p.s - you don't get to pick where you lose the fat from and when your bottom looks like 2 deflated balloons and sitting is painful you just grin and deal with it.
its still better than that day when i couldn't fit between the machines at the gym.
Everyone have a great weekend - I am smoking ribs for my Birthday - dry rub only- no sugar

I don't care for artificial sweeteners, but recently bought a bag of Monk Fruit at costco. It tastes much better than any other artificial sweetness on the market. I looked for coffee Syrup made with monk fruit and am thinking of buying it and giving it a try. Have only found one syrup with the monk fruit, but they tout a money back guarantee. Has anyone tried it before?

I used mine. In fact they even added the oxygen to the cpap. I had to stay an extra night because of low oxygen levels.

I really found this chart useful as I was losing. It made me feel more optimistic and realistic. I’m glad others might too, I figured everyone knew about it.

My taste buds have changed that's for sure. I was never a big fan of yogurt and now I love it and could eat it several times a day. I have experienced "dumping" and it is not fun.
I know I need to cut out bread. two girls I know who gastric sleeve cant eat bread but not this girl. It doesn't seem to bother my new stomach :-(
I cant eat too much sugar, it will make me nauseous which before I was a huge sugar addict.
I just need to get off my lazy butt. I want at least another 10-15 off before the big 50 birthday in October.

It is super frustrating to me because it's a great way to relieve stress from the work day, or just stress in general. I FEEL better physically and emotionally due to exercise. I have goals I am working towards (I am taking a course to become a certified personal trainer currently). I take a spin class twice a week, yoga a few times a week, and my trainer is on leave for a few months, so I am doing weights at home twice a week. I still go out and do other things; I just prefer being in the gym or outside doing something active. I feel like if these people who are close to me are supposedly so insightful, where was that insightfulness the last 9 years when I was killing myself with garbage food? I dunno. I meet my nutrient goals, aside from carbs but I am working on it... that's just a mental hurdle I need to overcome personally. I wish they would feel happy that I've finally found something I enjoy that isn't just sitting on my sofa, binge watching TV, and eating nonstop... which was seriously my entire life throughout my 20s.

I ran a temp of just over 100. One time it was 100.8. I had to go to the Er 2x due to being dehydrated. I'm not sure if it means anything (I did ok) but, it is best to call the Dr right away and get advice. Take care!

I agree with you. I would be outraged that they didn't care before you lost the weight. Just today my sil stopped by and commented I was getting skinny. Hardly, I have 85 pounds to go. I hate her making a fuss over it.
A story I must tell. My son whom is 35 and a body builder. He took his fitness to extremes and still does. He does worry me because he takes steroids and ended up with chf when he was about 21. They thought he had a heart attack. This lifestyle is unhealthy for him, imho. If you are enjoying it and it keeps you occupied and on the right track I say go for it and tell them to not worry about it, or even say it like you told us. Honesty will get them to back off. Enjoy your hard earned weightloss and new found passion!

it's hard to say because it depends on so many factors. How many are you averaging now? If you're not sure, track all your food for a week or two and figure out what your average intake is. Then try cutting it back by 100 calories a day, give it a week or two, and see if you weight starts to drop. If it doesn't, cut back by 100 more. Rinse and repeat until your weight starts dropping again.

Drinking Water does not make people gain weight. Dehydration is very serious. Please hydrate despite what the scale says.
Please understand the objective is to lose EXCESS FAT, not just weight. Weight can fluctuate based on many things but fat loss is goal.

I've heard of people gaining up to 10 lbs from the IV fluid! It'll work its way out in a couple of days - maybe a bit longer if you're salt sensitive (that Fluid has a lot of sodium in it) - but either way, just give it some time.

Did you have an IV? If so, it's likely Fluid from the IV, and it could also be fluid retention from your bladder issue and the meds they gave you. Don't freak. Deep breaths. Follow your plan. Sip sip sip. Walk walk walk!

It has went by rather quickly with all the mandatory tests. Yet I have felt like forever. I made it work a lot faster by doing the leg work and constantly calling them. Today I called to see if they had submitted my paperwork to my insurance and was able to find out they had and I also received my surgery date. September 17, 2019 Still a wait but not to long. Excited but nervous too.

I celebrated last weekend by jogging my first 5km marathon! I can’t wait to cut my time for this, however, am also working towards 10 Kms ~ I was able to do 8 kms last week! Still can’t believe this! We’ve got this!!!
