What would you change?
I'd take that bet! It's seriously a pain in the ass. Whenever I find pants that do fit, I have to get multiple pairs, just because I can never find them if I go back. Petites are generally a little too short (except for a few brands) and regulars are generally too long. And like I said, I don't even bother to go into Lane Bryant anymore. All their petite-length pants are literally 4" too long. I wouldn't want to be really tall, either. I'm sure that's probably the same story.

Do You Agree With Brad ??
To me, that quote is saying that there is no God, that people believe in whatever they believe in (whether it is Allah, or God, or Buddha, etc.) because they need to believe in something, to believe that there is someone or something taking care of them, that no matter what they go through or suffer in this life, they will be taken care of and rewarded. It's just human nature to want to be taken care of, to want to be loved. I totally agree with that.

What would you change?
1) I'd be taller. I'm 5'3" now and it's a pain in the ass. Depending on the manufacturer, I'm either petite, very petite (Try finding petites that are for actual short people at Lane Bryant. Good luck - they're all 4" too long.), or in-between petite and regular-length (in which case, NOTHING fits). I'm too short to reach tall cabinets, can't see over people in a crowd or from the back of a classroom, and it's a pain in the ass to climb up into a tree to place a camera and still not be able to reach the right spot (like I had to do last summer). 2) Not sure on this one. Maybe be less self-conscious? Or more outgoing? Faith's #2 would work, too.

Making Choices
Hi! Welcome to LBT! It sounds like you would probably do very well with the lap-band. Remember, though, weightloss would probably be slow. We're expected to lose an average of 1-2 pounds per week. About the scars... Banding is a laparoscopic surgery, so most of the scars are very small. The largest one is maybe 2.5 inches long, and that's where they inserted the port. The others are 0.5 inch in size, at most. Except for the port incision, they are basically key-hole incisions. There are many people here that can attest to the fact that, yes, banding does work. So far, I've only lost 16 pounds, but I'm right on track, since I was banded on July 3. I wish it would come off faster, but I just now got good restriction. I had my third fill last week, and I haven't experienced real hunger since then. I've actually been having to force myself to consume enough calories during the day.

Why do I do it to myself?
One thing I was thinking about the Sandy thing... Is it not the responsibility of the people that know what she's doing to say something? I mean, she's conning people and misrepresenting herself. Shouldn't those people that know what she's doing, know it's wrong and even illegal, warn other people? I get the feeling sometimes that we're supposed to just shut up and let her be, let her get away with it. At least, that's the feeling that I get from some of these posts. Yet, isn't that doing a misservice to the people that she's going after, the people she's conning? At what point does it go from letting someone's past go unmentioned to not saying anything because it would reflect badly on us? IMO, it's one thing to not talk about someone's past secrets because they've become an upstanding member of society. It's a far, far different thing when that person is breaking the law, using her past to do it.

NSV with Halloween Candy?
Like the breakfast bar commercials? The ones where they have the cinnamon-bun rear or a donut around the middle?

Why do I do it to myself?
Hey, the best thing about LBT is that there are no grudges held. We can bitch and fight to our hearts' content in Rant and Raves and still be the best support on the rest of the board.

Why do I do it to myself?
We'll have to do a LBT get-together sometime. Maybe in Vegas or New York or something.

lap band cookbook
I've always wanted to try it, but haven't gotten around to it. I really don't think we become susceptible to spices. I still love spicy food just as much as I did before banding, just can't eat as much.

Two words. Pina coladas. Or Sex on the Beach. Those are yummy, too. :biggrin1:

Why do I do it to myself?
Nah. I'm a cryer. I start sobbing if I get into emotional arguments. I'm a mouse in RL. :speechles

Why do I do it to myself?
Apparently, it's true, since you see the need to ask everyone why they're angry. Kinda obvious.

Why do I do it to myself?
And don't forget the main board. That place was a shithole worse than the band board. Except instead of "Sandy vs. the sane," it was "band vs. RNY."
-
Why do I do it to myself?
Ehh. They're not bad, but they're mostly RNY. At least, the ones I went to were.

Why do I do it to myself?
One person does not speak for everyone. Of course, you may not understand that, since you do support Sandy.

Why do I do it to myself?
The anger is there because people are continuing to protect a lying, theiving, nurse-impersonating con artist. It's there because people continue to put her feelings before the feelings of the people she fooled and conned. The anger is there because those of us who chose to speak up civilly (and it was civil at that time) were attacked. Can you blame us for feeling a little put-out?

Next time, I'm goin' to Mexico!
After all is said and done, I will have probably spent at least $7,000-$8,000 on this surgery. Plus, I had to wait about 9 months from when I decided to have it, to get it done. I should have just gone to Mexico. I could have gotten it for about the same out-of-pocket cost AND gotten a more experienced surgeon. Now, I'm not knocking my surgeon, she's great and I love her to death. But the fact is, she hasn't done that many bands, compared to a lot of the Mexican docs. So, I think that if I ever have to have anything else done (elective, anyway), I'm going to Mexico.

Why do I do it to myself?
<br /> No offense, but we all knew Dee was a wacko. I had her on my friends list, but I still knew she wasn't all there. It was joked about so often on OH (in that nice, no names mentioned way of talking about people that y'all have) that I fail to see how you missed her wackiness.

Owie.
I'm planning to go to the pharmacy tonight and get something. I would have swallowed the Advil, but I was afraid to, since I've had so much restriction.
-
Why do I do it to myself?
The same holds for someone who spreads lies about another person, telling people that they've worked with their doctor and "you won't believe what he told me!!!!".
-
Why do I do it to myself?
Of course it wouldn't. In Dee's case, she's not someone that they publicly supported. She's just the nutjob and fair game. EVERYONE knows she's a wacko. It's not hypocrisy, then. Funny how they support Sandy but fail to speak up on behalf of Dee.

Why do I do it to myself?
Before anyone asks, YES, I am mad about this. So her past was made public. Boo fucking hoo! It isn't like she made a mistake and turned her life around. She was actively BREAKING THE LAW AND LYING TO PEOPLE! I have no sympathy for someone like her. She isn't someone who made a mistake in her past and is a do-gooder now. She is someone who made a mistake in her past and CONTINUES to make that same mistake. It would be like neighbor putting up a poster of the neighborhood child molestor's previous convictions for molesting children. At that point, it isn't invading their privacy. It's a matter of public awareness and safety. All this "boo-hoo, they should leave her alone, she wasn't hurting people" is PISSING ME OFF. She was hurting people. She was and is breaking the law. She isn't someone to be protected. She should be banned from every fucking weight-loss messageboard and website in existance.

Why do I do it to myself?
Yeah, we've all got bits of our past that we'd rather not have become fodder for common knowledge and discussion. The difference is, you and I aren't trying to make fools of the people around us. Sandy lost the priviledge of keeping her past from people when she lied to them and made them think she was a nurse and therefore had more knowledge about banding than anyone else. No one involved in this whole mess has been an angel, but Sandy has acted in a way that asks - no, begs - for someone to come and knock her down a peg or two. She's hidden her past from people. That's acceptable. I don't think anyone would have begrudged her that right. But that's not the only thing she's done. She's guided people into thinking that she's a NURSE, for crying out loud, a figure that people on a board such as OH automatically look towards for guidance about their bands! She's led attacks on people, spread lies about them, simply because they spoke up against her. That's NOT acceptable. There comes a point in all of this where you simply have to either cut ties with someone or take their side. And by not making a public statement against what she's done, you've taken her side. You've given her unspoken acceptance, and the other people around you know that. Not wanting to spread someone's past around is one thing. But by not letting other people know about her, you are allowing her to continue in the way she always had.
