  1. How long have you been banded? There are many home remedies for hiccups and different things work for different people. A hiccup is caused by your diaphram spasming. Sometimes from eating or drinking to fast. Honestly though I can get the hiccups with no food or beverage in site. As to whether it can hurt your band, I really don't know. But I feel for you, I know they can be a real drag. I've had them once since being banded and fortunately I was able to drink enough water fast enough to get rid of them. Good luck
  2. Well, it was my understanding that the stitches need time to heal. My doc ok'd me to soft foods earlier than he originally expected to. He told me to proceed with caution up to solid foods. They also listed fish and tender chicken as soft foods. They do clear liquid 24 hrs, then full liquid, then soft food (like what you could normally eat without teeth), then solids. Now that said, I was ok'd to soft foods early and told to progress with caution towards solids as I felt comfortable. I have had no pain other than port discomfort. Some people heal faster than others and some have more swelling than others. I would think the biggest issue is if that fry were to have caused a PB. I would think PBing or vomitting in the first several weeks would do more damage than progressing a little faster than the next person. Bottom line, do what your doc says, he knows what's best for you.
  3. I went to Dr. Montgomery as did my aunt. He and his staff are wonderful! They are helpful and imformative. I was in and out in about 4 hours and it was $18,500 and that includes a full year of aftercare and fills/unfills. My aunt is the one who recommended him. Until I talked to her I was thinking of RNY. So glad I listened
  4. OK in the industry, skin end but still know a bit about hari. Nioxin works well for some people. As do all the others. It is so individual. My sister noticed a big difference in her thinning hair with nioxin, used the shampoo conditioner, the conentrated serums (always changing what they call it as they imporve it). All of it helped, but what made the biggest difference was the nioxin supplements. The real key to stopping the thinning and even regrowth for anyone is trial and error. If you try something try the entire treatment, don't pick and choose. What will work for you is determined by why your hair is thinning. It could be genetic, hormonal, diet, etc. so try different things for a fair amount of time. Nioxin does take some time to work, but for those it works for it does help regrow even. Nothing is a miracle cure that will give you all your hair back. If you don't find something that works for you, consider getting a weave. They are pretty durable and your hair will always look great!
  5. I have a theory on scales accuracy. I believe that the more you weigh the less accurate they are. The closer you get to a scales max capacity the more skewed it gets. Simply most bathroom scales are not designed to weigh us at all. So go by what the surgeons scale says or do what I do. I go to a friends office with a professional scale like at the docs office to weigh in. At least I know it's farily accurate and can handle well ovr my weight Bathroom scale still reads ee for eek. Next phase is err for error. It like my hubby though. Fickle little s***
  6. You are doing great! 16 pounds :clap2: The first 6 weeks are about healing not about losing. I know we all want to lose anyway, myself included. Bottom line is your body just went through a major ordeal! You can't expect it to know which way is up or down. Just keep forllowing the Rules, get your fill if you need it. This is a long road we are on. Chin up you are doing awesome
  7. I am sorry you hurt. Day 2 and day 3 were the worst for me. After that it started getting better. I have handled a lot of pain, and this was no different, it sucked. But two weeks later and I ony have some port pain left and was off pain meds by the end of 1 week. I hope you feel better soon :grouphug: and welcome to bandland
  8. We all have our demons in our past, things that made us overeaters. We rarely talk about them (except in therapy sessions). But something happened last night that makes me want to share my biggest weight demon, my grandmother. Now I have to say I love my grandmother very much, she died many years ago now, but is still very alive in me and always will be. From the time I was 9yrs old she would snag me away from my parents and put me on diets. Always telling me I was too fat and that if I wanted to grow up to be happy and have boyfriends and a husband that I needed to lose weight. At 9 I was about 20lbs overweight, not too big a deal. It became a ritual where every summer I would spend with my grandparents and I would diet, absolutely no cheating allowed! She made me walk a few miles a day and do aerobics for 1hr per day. Summer would end and I'd go home to my parents where there was freedom to eat. Naturally after 3 months of severe dieting I did what any child would do, stuffed my face with cookies, cakes and pies. So the cycle went, lose gain, lose, gain more. Till the day my grandmother died, she said, "if you're not careful you'll end up 300lbs". I never believed her. That is the reason for much of my psychosis in overeating. Well, last night I was talking to my mom, and she shared with me something that my brother had said to her. Paraphrasing a little "well mom, what do you expect after what grandma did to her with always telling her she was too fat and needed to lose weight. Between that and her PCOS (he calls it that ovary thing, but for clarification sake) she didn't have a chance." He is very happy for me and really hopes that this band is the answer for me. And now I'm crying. It is sad that out of love someone can hurt a child so badly, making them feel that their entire worth is in how skinny they are. There is one blessing to my weight and I am very greatful for it. There is no doubt in my mind that my husband loves me for all the right reasons, and by marrying him while I was near my highest weight, I proved my grandmother wrong. Love is not just for the skinny girls. Ladies we are beautiful, each and everyone of us. Whether we are 500lbs+ or 110lbs, and we deserve to love ourselves and to be loved by others. Just remember, the people who love us don't judge us, so love yourself.
  9. WAHOO! Nope not on my home scale yet, but..... Went to a friends work (physical therapy/gym) and weighed in. I know that even amongst professional scales there is some varience but shouldn't be much. My friend that drove me over today (we out on errands today) said that that scales weighs her about 2 pounds hevier than her doc's scale, so, here goes. 5lb loss this week! Yay, I am so happy. I'd love more but down is definitely good. As much as I'd love a miracle loss, I know that it isn't realistic. Down is Down. Hoepfully next week, I will hit the old 20lbs down :grouphug: Hope the rest of you are having a great day too
  10. Yay :clap2: I am so glad :grouphug:
  11. Yay Susan, good luck :grouphug:
  12. My doc told me to porgess as I was comfortable using caution. He gave a guidline of 2wk liquid, 2wk mushie, start incorparoating solids. After my 1wk post op he said I could move to mushies if I felt ready and told me to progress slowly and cautiosly but didn't give me any real restraints from there out, so I am starting my third week and on mushies and soft solids. Not sure when I'll get up the courage to eat stuff like raw veggies, something tells me it will be a while. Every doctor has their own guidelines based on their own patients acculmulitive experience. Seems to me with this much varience it is a very individual thing. Best advice it listen to your doc, your body, and your good sense. Do not listen to the little voice in your head that tries to rationalise eating something you know you shouldn't.
  13. Grats! Hope you have a great and quick recovery :bananadoggywow:
  14. Well, my daughter has a bit of a weight issue. She is 60lbs overweight at 12! I am very worried about her portions and the junk she eats. She is saying she has to lose her excess before I get all the way to my goal. She doesn't want me to be thinner than her, lol. If it a self esteem issue, it's hard, I still remember when I started wearing bigger sizes than my mom. It was devastating at first, but I adjusted and hopefully your daughter will too. Good luck
  15. LOL It will work and yeah it is pretty nasty, but it works really really well. grab a book and an extra roll of tp
  16. My surgeons office suggested milk of magnesia for consitipation, it will get you moving :Banane33: Also, constipation can make you feel full and slow everything down, it does for me. When I'm not hungry all I usually have to do is ask myself when did I last go. And by normal I meant that your experiences fell within the realm of what many experience. After all what is "normal"
  17. Don't force anything down. What you are experiencing is normal. Many people respond to the surgery with a lot of swelling. As for not getting enough protein, a few days or even a week isn't a big deal. As soon as you can get the protein drinks in do, 'til then don't worry. Try walking for gas pressure too. And no it's different than the golf ball. I know the pressure you are toalking about. I think it's a combo of gas and swelling, and yes, it feels foreign. Just relax and smile casue as soon as the swelling goes down comes some serious hunger, at least for me it did.
  18. Well I was afraid to pull anything off, bandaids or steristrips and they were still there at my one week post op. Surgein pulled off the bandaids and some of the sterisstrips as well and told me to work on the others later that day. LOL. He said they needed air to heal faster
  19. Gladwar makes a little storage container that one cup of food perfectly. Pack the left overs in little one cup servings and eat them for your lunches and send them with your so for lunch too! If you still have too many, then you don't have to cook the next night
  20. Well I can relate, my periods are messed up and have been pretty much on for 2 days off for 2 days for the last 3 weeks!!! It makes it hard. Just remember, your body can handle a few extra calories at this time. Get some gortons fish filets, non breaded and splurge with some tartar sauce. Nally brand has only 1carb per serving. And for chocolate attacks do semisweet choclate chips. It's amazing how just a few of those will satisfy your need. DO NOT GO OUT TO EAT!!! Thie serving sizes they give you will be very hard to resist and you will end up PB'ing in the bathroom at the restaurant.
  21. Thanks guys I needed that bit of support today. I know the last two days i was more in 1500 calorie range, and I am ashamed to say the filets were breaded. I told my hubby in the future we can't buy the breaded ones. And for me, I have insulin issues, if I eat any carbs at all from a non veggie source my body produces large excesses of insulin. Then my body turns all those little carbs into stored fat. I am actually one of those people who's weight gain isn't entirely my fault, mostly, but not entirely. I did after all eat the doritos with sour cream when I would PMS after all. Insulin issues or not, I did choose to eat the junk that made it all far worse. But this is a new life without the junk!:clap2: And I can do this Oh and Yoda, my advice to you would be to not eat the baby food in front of your hubby. If he is anything like mine he will get grossed out. I grossed mine out a few times on the combos of foods I'd put in the blender. The one that really did it was refried beans, cottage cheese a little taco seasoning and a little bit of milk to thin it out.
  22. Huh I always thought it was the opposite Wheetsin, that your poop was supposed to sink, if it floated you were sick. But I heard that many years ago, lol, either way I love this thread. Hehe
  23. Well my surgeon considers 60% at 2yrs a clinical success. Their success rate at that clinic is very very high. They also say that many of their patients go well beyond that mark to lose anywhere from 61% to 100% of excess weight depending on the individual.
  24. I am on mushies transitioning into soft solids like white fish. But I was so hungry after not having anything but liquids for so long that i ate 5 fish filets!!!! OMGOSH That is so much, needless to say I have no restriction now that the swelling is down. As far as I can tell I am not losing anything right now. I am far more carb sensitive than calorie sensitive. And mushies are full of carbs! Help, does anyone have any ideas for high protein, 0 carb mushies/soft solids? Is tuna fish and canned salmon soft enough mixed with a little mayo? If it is I am so sending my husband to the store right away! I feel like such a failure right now and 4 weeks to my first fill :think
  25. Welcome alison and grats! ~~~~~ Teresita you changed your name!, but I had to tell you, this is why my husband must notice, lol, he will always notice my boobs.
