Frustrated and TICKED Off!!! - Question about Scales
Yoda, your scale shouldn't be doing that. It's a lemon take it back. My digital scale is very consistent. I stand on it exactly the same way every day and never have variance issues. I can get on it three times and get the same read every time.

Jumpstart Weightloss
You can totally go with zero calories even for a few weeks and be fine, you won't starve, however you may gain when you go back onto food and calories. My aunt has been banded for a year and she regularly eats 700-800 a day and has lost over 80lbs in the first year and is almost to goal (less than 20 to go). It is so different for everyone, and plateaus are so hard to get off of sometimes. My advice for whatever it's worth is to lower your calories by 250 per day and increase you excersise to burn an additional 250 per day (or any combo to equal 500 calories) and you should lose again.

who set your goals?
I set my goals and my goal weight is within my healthy range for my height but will still be far from skinny. It is my starter goal, I reserve the right to adjust it at anytime as I see fit. Due to back issues, I would like to lose as much as possible. People with chronic back issues should consider going a little underweight (and I do mean a little not a lot) it can make a huge difference in your pain level. However, I don't know that I will be able to get past 140 which is my official low on the height weight charts. I know I can weigh 140 and still have a little flab, although now I have more muscle than I did in high school, so we'll see. My old 140 might be more like 150 or even 160 now. This is why I am flexible.

Breast Cancer segment (Please Read this)
Thankyou Sandy for posting this. My grandmother died from IBC. At the time they didn't name it anything other than breast cancer but were very surprised that she had a tumorless cancer. Mammograms did nothing to detect it, when her nipple started bleeding (hers started in the milk ducts)and the whole area around it was red and inflamed and she begged the doctor to look further into it, is when it was finally diagnosed. Bleeding from the nipple is not always or usually a symptom but in her case it was. That is what saved her the first time, the bleeding, they were able to treat the cancer in time. Only a few years later did it move to the other breast, this time no bleeding to warn her, it went too far and all the chemo and radiation in the world could not save her. I would plead with women everywhere that breast exams are wonderful and important, but that any change in your breasts needs full and immediate attention from a specialist. Too many women die of breast cancer, we all have to do something to stop it. Awareness and education are key.

Thanks everyone, I ended up coming home early yesterday and calling in sick today. Not sure if I was truly physically ill or just having a mental breakdown. My mood is definitely better though

Am I Doomed To Fail w. Band?
The most important thing you can do is quit the negative self talk. Talk to your self in positive ways. Everyday, tell yourself you can do this, tell yourself over and over a million times a day, if that's even possible. The key to success is believing in yourself. Start planning healthy small meals and what clothes you are gonna be able to wear once you get down a bit in weight. Don't put a picture of you fat on the refer put a skinny picture of you up, that is your goal. We don't need to see where we are but rather where we are going. Simple carbs are an addictive food it takes time before you won't crave things like bread or in my case doritos. Most of all YOU CAN DO THIS. I know you can, so chin up, no one's perfect don't beat yourself up when you stumble. Pick up your feet and keep at it. It isn't perfect eating that has taken off 37lbs it is continuity. As for the smoking, quitting ciggs is very hard and I commend you for trying. Don't beat yourself up though when you break down and have one. You are trying to make 2 major lifestyle changes at once! Just be kind to yourself, I found that grapefruit juice and cinnemon gum helped me a lot when quitting.

need to vent about life
I am in such a crappy mood today. I woke up grumpy and have been that way all day. I had a bad weekend where I ate a hostess apple pie and doritos. I am still a long ways away from good restriction and want to eat and can eat but forced with the knowledge that I shouldn't eat as much as my tastebuds and head would like. I worked for hours yesterday to design my husband a new logo for his business and all morning while I was getting ready he was asking me how to change it. He made it look like crap and now I have to fix it. A friend had to have an emergency surgery for a tubal pregnancy and burst fibroid cyst, found that out today after being worried all weekend. Out of happy pills and won't get my new prescrip till at least tomorrow and my tom is here right in time for finals week. Deep breath. I need an early night and a full nights sleep to give myself an attitude ajustment in time for tomorrow. Too tired by far for one tonight, I just need to cry and go to bed. Thanks for letting me vent.

Well all I have to say is that mean people suck! Without getting too deep into religious or philosophical beliefs I truly believe that one day each and every one of us will have to answer for every bad thing we've done. One day those oinker's will have to deal with the shame of being a cruel person. We will be avenged in the end. Meanwhile my poor chubby daughter get's teased by all of her siblings for being fat and a little slow acedemically. They call her fat and dumb. I feel sorrier for them than I do for her. I make them put the soap in their own mouths, better that way, reinforces the whole you brought it on yourself aspect. Then I remind my daughter that she is beautiful and she has a sweetness about her that is unparalelled. So Cloe, remeber you are beautiful and they are the ugly ducklings with their deformed personalities. Fat is not forever, but being a cruel jerk usually is.

Emotional Band Crisis
You are not alone, I have 4.5cc's in my 10cc band as of my first fill on Monday. The swelling gave me great restriction at first, but now the swelling is gone and once again I can eat more than I should be able to, but I cannot eat nearly as much as I could pre fill. My weight loss to this point has been due to counting calories and dealing with the hunger, knowing that the hunger won't last forever. You can do it, but you have to work with the band, calories do count. Hang in there, it will get better

I weigh whenever i think about it or feel like it. I know it will always be less than the last time so it's all good  Well, my swelling went down from my fill and while I can't eat nearly as much as I could before the fill, I can still eat about 2 cups worth of food, so back for another one as soon as I can get it scheduled.

Help Preop Diet Crazy!!!!!
Every surgeon is different. Not all require a pre op diet and those that do vary widely in what they require or recommend. However anyone who had to do a preop diet will tell you it was hard, no matter which one they were on. The purpose is of course to shrink the liver making surgery easier and safer. My doctor required a 2 week pre-op and I was told to do my best. My surgery was not dependant upon my success but I knew I needed to succeed to make my surgery safer. Basically, all of us here had to survive on pure determination before and after surgery all the way to restriction. The next sevral weeks of your life will be hard but when you get through to the other side you will feel great. You will have lost weight and have a feeling of real accomplishment. Remember the hunger won't last forever. One thing I did that helped me is I kept telling myself that when my stomach was growling my body was burning fat. I actually convinced myself that that was a fact, I would get all excited when it would growl, and I'd say "I'm burning fat"

1st fill and needing support
I too am a little apprehensive about my eating habits. I had my first fill 2 days ago and have had no problems, no pb's but I am taking it really careful. 1 cup of food really does fill me up now or 2 cups of soft stuff like soup. I had 1.5 chicken strips and a most of a bowl of chili yesterday for lunch at wendy's (about 1.5cups of food total) and was full for hours. Started to slime a tiny bit on the chicken (had to slow down a little) but I just stopped and it went down fine. Learning to slow down and take tiny bites and chew chew chew. I got away with a lot before my fill, no more. Good luck

Losing a friend
I am sure many of you will be able to relate to this.... 2 months ago I got my band. I gave up diet coke and junk food, for a good portion of that time food all together, yay liquids Like a drug addict who thinks the dealers are their friends I am equally misplaceing my friendship with food. I have a wonderful husband and kids and a huge extended family and lots of friends for support, but still I miss food. As time goes on I know this will end. I used to drink diet coke to trick my head into thinking I was eating or splurging on something yummy but now I don't even have that crutch. All I have is my band preventing me from doing too much damage calorie wise. So here I am mourning the loss of my good friend the calorie fest of food. She was a close friend even though she encouraged me to do bad things like eat half a cake. I don't know why I miss her but, I got over missing ciggarettes eventually and so I will get over food and truly grasp that food is fuel not a reward or a hug, or a shoulder to cry on. 2 days ago I got my first fill and am at 4.5cc's in a 10cc band, I cannot eat very much anymore, I still need a little more restriction but this is definitely a good start so here I lay down my flowers on the grave of my old troublesome friend. No longer will she be able to influence me as before. Her memory may spur on a nostalgic mini bag of doritos or a milk shake but never again will I be able to eat even average amounts of food let alone large amounts. So goodbye my friend, may you rest in peace

WAY TO GO ALISON :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Well, now that I know the conversion from my docs scale to my home scale, I converted my starting weight to my scale. This way I only have to convert once instead of everytime So, that puts my start weight 4 lbs heavier. And I am loving this fill.. not sure yet how soon I will need a second but for the moment, this one is awesome :scared: another 4lbs in 2 days, wahoo!

How Long Does The Sliming Last????
Restriction can vary a lot even in one day just from natural changes in Water retention and hydration. I never know if I will be able to eat 1 cup of food, or twice that, until I am in the process of eating. I get at least half of my daily Protein with my morning cottage cheese. I can't stand to really eat in the morning, so this is a great alternative and 28g of protein to start my day! I am a little scared of getting good restriction too quickly as I am not sure I am a really good chewer yet, although I try. As for scrambled eggs, I always add just a little mayo to the mix and it keeps them moist and no problems, I cannot have eggs any other way, even without restriction, hard boiled seems to be the worst, ouch.

Thanks Wheetsin, I will look into that Yes I have enough time to eat a healthy lunch, but I am afraid to eat anything that may not agree with me while at school. The hard thing is that we can't drink anything outside of the break room, so I have to go hours at a time without water, then I have to drink it all at once, making it hard at lunch time to drink and eat , I will figure it out though, this is only week 1, and I have a year to go. Grats on the size change by the way, I can finally wear my 30's comfortably yay, next stop 28's

Grats Wheetsin! Well, I am very much due to have my first fill, but my new school schedule won't allow it till the monday after memorial day I am going to school for cometology so I am going from sitting at my desk all day to standing and moving all day! BIG CHANGE! Also, when at school, I can't snack and lunches are too short to overeat and breaks are too short to eat and water is more important than food, so, my calories are plummeting and I am very hungry. When I get home I am too tired to care. Only reason I am getting enough protein is cause of my morning cottage cheese andmy wonderful hubby who always has chicken waiting for me when I get home. Then I crash for the night. So hopefully I will start losing faster even before the fill. Can't wait for good restriction so I can stop feeling hungry. BTW someone fax me some energy K? I have gone from 10 hrs of sleep a night to 6! Tough transition.

Cheesy Question
I really wanted to get married so I read a book called "How to get Married in a Year or Less"? It was great, it helped you figure out who you were and what you wanted in a husband. I eliminated casual dating and only went out with men I thought had potential, ie met the requirements. I dated a lot!!! I got on a christian dating site and met guys there too. In fact that site is where I met my husband We are very happy and married for just over 2 years, newlyweds still I believe the key is to meet lots of people and not to waste your time on those that don't meet you needs. There is no such thing as the one and only right person. You can love many times in your life. Find one that you love and loves you back. It's sheer numbers and working on yourself in the process. Good luck PS if you just want to date casually there are lots of great men out there who don't want a commitment, just a fun girl to hang with
