  1. My husband and I go to a Chinese place and I always eat shrimp, small bites and chew well, no problem with me. The only thing I had problems with were cooked carrots and chicken (threw-up), it took me 3 tries for chicken, and now all is good, same as with carrots. Banded on Jan. 16, 2009 have lost 25 pounds with 60 to go, have 1cc, don't know the size of my band?????????
  2. I am 6 wks post op and had my first fill yesterday. The doc numbed the area first then stuck the LONG needle in on first try, no xrays, just feeling around. My question is this...when he went to do the fill he had me drink a cup of water, 3 gulps and then he started to pull the saline out and told me to tell him when the water went down. I guessed at it because I really couldn't feel the water go down??? I am okay today, I really don't feel any different, is this normal. When they gave me the water it was full of ice, I guess so you can feel it better, but no such luck. I didn't tell the doc this. I had no fill during surgery, just got 1cc put in yesterday, on full liquids for 2 days then mushies, then slowly to soft foods. I wonder if I will feel the difference once I go to the food?????? MY next appt is in 4 weeks.
  3. I am six weeks post op and have an appt with my surgeon in 2 days. I saw him a month ago and he said he wasn't sure he would do a fill in six weeks. I was loosing the weight really well but now things have slowed down and I get hungry more often than I should. I can eat a regular size meal, and within 2-3 hours I am hungry again. But once in a great while I will sit down to breakfast and fix me an egg with one slice of toast and can't finish it, too full. It seems like my band is NOT working during the evening meal! Any ideas out there for what I should do in 2 days, to fill or NOT???????? By the way I have lost 22 pounds in 6 weeks! I've got about 60 - 70 pounds to go.........
  4. I am 5 weeks post-op and doing wonderful. My worst day was the 3rd day, couldn't drink liquids, was so upset!! Never took any meds for pain! Had surgery on Friday had to stay the night because of sleep apnea, went home Saturday afternoon in church on Sunday! No fill yet, going in on the 4th of March for possible fill, he is not sure yet??? I have lost 18 pounds in 41/2 weeks!
  5. I was banded on January 16th and have lost a total of 18 pounds from pre-op up until today:thumbup:. My question is I am at a stand still with my weight. I lost the 17-18 and can't seem to budge from there. I go to the YMCA 3 times a week, just cardio until my first check up and then on to weights. I started soft solid food about a week ago and can't keep chicken down at all:ohmy:! I can eat steak, chopped steak, toppings off of pizza, all kinds of fish, you name and it stays, but not chicken, does anyone else have this problem????
  6. I too was banded on Jan 16th. Down 18 pounds so far! I go in for my second appt. on March 4th, he may do a fill not sure yet. I am doing great thou. Had a couple of things that didn't set right with me. One was crab and the other was chicken:cursing:. I lived in Queen Creek, AZ for 8 years. Husband was stationed at Williams AFB, Chandler, AZ:cool2:.
  7. Did anyone else have problems urinating after surgery:scared2:. It took me 9 1/2 hours before I could pee!!!!!!!! Didn't feel the urge to:ohmy:.
  8. Had to stay over night because of sleep apnea. Didn't sleep because I was across from the nurse's station and they laughed and talked all night:cursing:. I watched TV and just laid there watching the clock:mellow:. Got to go home around 12:30 the next day. Didn't know I was staying the night until right before I went into surgery the surgeon told me:ohmy:! The only pain meds I had to take was in recovery and that was 2 shots of morphine. I did not need anything else the whole time I was in or no pain meds at home either! I would say my BIGGEST problem was I couldn't PEE after surgery:crying:. It took me 9 hours before I went! The nurse threatened me with a catheter, and I asked for one more hour to try and go and I finally did after 9 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. What is a low profile port? I can feel mine real well and my stomach kinda sticks out, but I am only 3 weeks post op as of today. Jan 16th, was the start of a new life style for me! Jan
  10. Does anybody know if they move your port for a tummy tuck? My port is to the upper right of my navel and I know they will have to make a new hole for the navel, but what about the port site??? I am just starting out on my weight loss journey, so it will be at least a year before I have this done. I have already had my breast down sized about 20 years ago and love them:thumbup:. I was a size triple D :ohmy:when I had this done. In high school I was a double D and weighed 99lbs!!! I know, I know what happeded with the weight, LONG STORY, but I gained over 100lbs so now it has to come off!
  11. Hi All, Just a question I have about my port. It is located to the right side of my navel. Every post I have read from this site have said that their port is to the left. I am not sure if it is because of my severe diverticulosis:scared2: on my left side of colon or what, anybody have any idea????
  12. Thanks to all of you for your input!!! I am doing okay and staying on track very well! I had made a pot of soup beans and had a small dish today (blended in the blender) and that was soooo good after shoveling snow twice this morning! Ohio got pelted pretty BAD today! My DH can't shovel since having a heart attack at 47 and open heart then 3 stints put in in October of this past year, so it's good ole me! I go see my surgeon for first follow-up on Monday. OH, I did not shovel the snow, I PUSHED it off the driveway, no lifting anything over a gallon of milk! Thanks again....Jan:thumbup:
  13. I was banded on Jan. 16th and have a question about the amount of food I should be eating. I thought the diet clinic told me that I would only be able to eat 1/2 cup at a time. Well I am eating about a cup at each meal. I have had one episode of slimming (with pain) ate a piece of corn bread, I know that is a no-no, but I just thought I would try it, NEVER AGAIN, the pain was awful until I got rid of the bread! I am still putting everything through the blender to make sure it goes through my band. I am still having some discomfort in my chest area, I think I had a hernia repair but won't know until I see the surgeon for my first appt. next Monday. I have lost 14lbs so far!
  14. I had to spend the night and didn't find out about it until right before I went into surgery! I have Sleep Apnea and that was the reason he gave me. He didn't tell me this at my pre-op so be sure you discuss this at your appts. The only pain I had was a level 4 in recovery and got a shot of morphine and that was all I needed, NO MORE PAIN, not even over night!! I was banded on the Janurary 16th and driving on the 20th. Doing great have lost 14lbs. so far. Started on mushies and am okay with that. Just be sure you chew, even JELLO!!!!!
  15. Oh yes, I have showered MANY times since my surgery. I was banded last Friday and stayed the night (sleep apnea) got released and went home and showered. This stuff is spreading. I do think it is something they used thou.
  16. I was banded on Jan 16th and ever since then I have a red rash all over my belly. It is getting worse and looks like measles but I know it's not. It itches really bad and I think it is from something they used on me during surgery. Have any of you had this happen. I have my first post op appt. the first Monday of Feb.
  17. Thanks Jodi, I hope this is the answer for me. How long did this issue last with you. I hate it when it feels like a huge lump in my throat, sometimes it almost impossible to burp, I have to force it out and then I feel a little better. But it comes right back when I go to eat or drink, it is maddening!!!!!!!!!
  18. no, but years ago I had a barium swallow and they saw a small one. My surgeon did not say he saw anything or at least he didn't tell my husband that I had a hernia.
  19. I am 5 days post op and am having a problem with noise and knot in my throat. The noise coming out of my throat, not a burp, kind of like a squeak hurts like heck. It does hurt to swallow even water let along mushie foods. I am going back on liquids today, but just not sure what this is. I did not have a barium swallow done before my band. I did not have this in the hospital so not sure what is going on. It is NOT GERD, this starts before the liquids hit my stomach.
  20. I am 5 days post op, had my band Jan 16th. The last couple of days I have had a noise in my throat and a KNOT that hurts when I swallow water or mushie foods. I tried to eat "soupy" cream of wheat this morning and only got 2 small bites down before the noise and pain started. Has anybody else had this? It is NOT GERD. I have nothing coming up just when it is going down. This also happend last night when I was just SIPPING my water! Any ideas??????? I did not have a barium swallow, was wondering if I should have had one????
  21. Hi Kris, That would be great to keep in touch! We use to live in MA, Westford to be exact. That was several years ago when we were military. I just tried a Gas-X and see if that helps! Jan
  22. Can someone tell me if this is right....I have tried hot tea, room temp sugar free kool-aide, surgar free popcycles, water, and every liquid inbetween and it all seems to hurt like heck to get it down:cursing:! It just feels like a rock sitting inside of my chest, is this GAS? I am suppose to be drinking at least 2 liters of fluid, yea right:eek:! I am not even close to that, this is Monday and I was banded on Friday. I have 5 incisions which I was kind of shocked about, thought maybe 3 -4? It kind of sounds like I am on track for the gas pains and problems drinking, I have no fill in my band, not until 6 weeks out! I have also gained 2 lbs since I have been home on liquids???
  23. Hi All, Well it's been two days and all is good so far. Hungry as heck but I am drinking my liquids so that does help some. I was admitted to hospital at 7:45, taken to my holding room, changed clothes, had vitals taken, then around 9:30 taken down to holding area where IV was started and given shot in belly for blood clots. They did have trouble starting IV, couldn't get a good vein in hand had to use my left arm, which is LESS PAINFUL!!!!! Doctor came in and talked to me a couple of minutes and then lowered the boom! I wanted to go HOME the same day but was told that since I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea I had to stay the night, was not happy but did obey. Came out of surgery okay and was taken to recovery for 1/2 hour, given 2 small shots of morphine to help with pain, which did the trick for me. Sent to my lovely room where husband and DSI were waiting for me. Told them to go home since I would be sleeping which they did. (They went out to eat) "Olive Garden" DARN IT! Anyways husband came back the next day and picked me up and took me home. Had a lot of Lower gas, if you know what I mean, no gas above waiste line??? They gave me BIG bottle of liquid pain med but don't need any of it. Couldn't sleep last night, to hyped about everything I guess. Went to church today and then went to my son's house, and on to resturant with DH, he ate and I had iced tea, I am doing okay.. The only thing I am having trouble with is burping after taking each drink of water, not sure what that is from. I am on liquids only until next Friday then on to mushie food, like apple sauce for 3 weeks then on harder food from there. :huh2:
  24. Hi All, Well tomorrow is my banding day, Jan 16th. I can't wait to get it over with. I have been on a roller coaster since Aug. and am just over it. I have lost 10lbs. on my 1 week pre-op diet of 2 Slim Fast drinks and one Healthy Choice Meals a day. I cooked up several meals for my husband last night so he is taken care and I don't have to deal with cooking for a week. I know he can take care of himself but I just wanted to do it for him. My Surgeon usually wants his pts. to stay over night, but I am going home after surgery, I don't like hospitals and the noise!!! Wish me luck tomorrow, and thank you all for all the wonderful tips and ideas you have shared.
  25. Hi, All! I am getting banded next Friday, Jan. 16th. My question is this, I started on pre-op diet today, only 650 calories aday and my stomach is on fire, what is going on? Has anyone else gone through this? Also was very anxious but now I am getting scared!!!! I remember the pain from my gall bladder surgery this past summer. Will the Lap Band pain be about the same?? I woke up in pain but they gave me a shot and that took care of it, got dressed and went home and took one pill that night and that was it for the pain meds for me, hope I am that lucky for Lap Band.
