I haven't had my surgery yet, nor do I know the date, but I was just wondering how long everybody had to stay in the hospital for? What the doctors expected you to do while there?

My surgery is scheduled for Monday and I don't have to stay overnight at all...in at 7:30am, surgery at 9:30 am, then recovery and out probably by 2 or 3 pm.

While there I'm told they will make me walk and do breathing treatments (they are concerned with blood clots and pneumonia after surgery).

I stayed 2.5 days, because of complications. The expected me to recover, give blood every 3 hours with vitals, and to walk. Lots of walking.

What kind of complications did you have? And do they affect you know?

My spleen was nicked, cause it to bleed during surgery. All is well now.

I exercise 5X a week. I am losing weight like crazy and inches. I have lots of energy!

I work full-time. And I am finishing my thesis so I can get my MPA diploma.

All is well with me.

I had surgery on 1/20, and most of my doc's patients stay overnight. I would NOT have been ready to go home same day! I was filled with gas, uncomfortable, and could not have ridden in a car. I wasn't allowed to drink anything (only mouth swabs) until the doc saw me the next morning and did the follow-up barium scan to be sure the band was in the right place without problems.

I had my suregery on a Monday afternoon, started getting sips of water in the recovery room, stayed that night, had the barium swallow thing the next day and home around dinner time. I could have gone home earlier in the day, but I vomited the lortab they gave me for pain. They then gave me a darvocet, and that sat well so I was sent home. They were talking about keeping me a second night if i couldn't keep the darvocet down. I just wanted out of there. I to had lots of gas pressure and stuff that first night along with some swelling. I would not have wanted to/been able to go home the same day.

I had to be at the hospital at 9:30, surgery scheduled for 10:45, put under at 11:45, in recovery by 12:15 and home by 3. Pretty quick, really....Good luck! The first week is hard, but after that, its great!

I was just banded on Feb 2nd. Operation was at 9:45 and took 45 minutes. They kept me overnight as they do all their patients. I was up and walking by 2pm, no liquids till 3 pm, then just one ounce and hour for the next four hours.

I walked a lot, enjoyed getting out of bed. The next morning I cleaned up and washed my hair in the sink. Dr came in and said go home! All was fine

I was banded around 5 PM. I was discharged at 10 AM the following morning. I was drinking following the surgery, walking immediately (I have spinal disease so it is always difficult, but had no problem), made it to the bathroom alone all night with the IV hookups, and had minimal discomfort. I am 54 and was surprised at how simple it was and how good I felt after. The only pain the first week was rising from laying down and that was in the port area and was considerable. I went to Vegas 9 days post op and had a great time.

I had my surgery 1/19. I stayed overnight and I'm glad I did. I had problems when I tried to eat the jello they gave me and was up and down to go to the bathroom a lot and needed help. Nobody would have left me alone at home so it gave me a chance to rest. I went back to work a week later with no problems.

i know my surgeon likes to keep people overnight because he said so many people have sleep apnea, but i have big healthy lungs. i have more ANXIETY about having to stay in the hospital than i do about the surgery. i have kids and i NEVER leave my 8 month old. i cry at the thought of he and i being apart for that long:confused:

I had surgery at 8 am, did the barium swallow at 10 am, and was being driven out of the parking lot at 12:30 the same day.

My surgery was scheduled for 7am--I did the baruim swallow thing around 1pm and my insurance required me to spend the night.

I would've preferred to leave later that day.

I was drinking juice, Jello and broth all night long--no gas pain but they put in an On-Q device--it's done with a small incision and it delivers pain relief directly to the site. It was put in wrong and didn't do anything but cause me pain.

I was very happy once it was taken out and I got my Vicodin at the CVS--I didn't get pain relief until I got home.

Checked in at 10:30, surgery at 12:15. I had a terrible time trying to wake up, so I pretty much slept until that evening at 7pm, save some occasional times where I was awakened by the staff. I stayed in the hospital until about 5pm the following day and then went home. I could have gone home sooner, but I was really behind where they expected me to be (in terms of being able to walk, consuming fluids, etc) and I wanted to make sure I was totally OK before coming home.

I had the surgery at 8am and got to my hospital room around 2pm. I didn't have any problems walking or drinking. I spent the night and was discharged around noon the next day. A few hours after I got home, I got very sick and threw up (hadn't eaten anything). I called my doctor and he told me to get on my pain meds right away - and stay on schedule no matter how I felt. It was great advice. I had a significant amount of post surgical pain and just took the meds. I was very happy that I stayed in the hospital to 1) insure everything was OK and 2) not be a burden to my husband who was watching our 2 year old at home. I seriously have no idea how people go back to work after a couple of days. It took me a week to recover. Strangely, it was more difficult than my hysterectomy!
