Failed....
You have not failed my dear. As it has been said many times the band is just a tool, that helps in the feeling of fullness. It does not however sort out our relationship with food. It seems to me it might be a good idea to talk to someone, maybe counselling? Please don't be so hard on yourself. You took a major step in getting the band- the physical part of the equation. Maybe it's time to consider working on the mental componant (which is huge) Good luck!

Do you or have you ever used Motrin, Ibuprofen, etc, while banded?
My Doctor said it's fine to use occasionally. I have done so with no problem.

A good lie re: scar?
Well, you could say you had your appendix out, that is done laproscopically, or you had some uterine fibroids removed:) Either is passable:)

Need advice
Sometimes after you get stuck, your stomach becomes irritated and inflamed. I would give it time to rest and stick with clear liquids until you can get in touch with your Dr. Eating anymore food at this point will likely make your problem worse. I know I have certain times when for no reason my band feels tighter, and food doesn't work. After a day or two on clears I am back to normal. Hope you feel better!

Mental Weight
I have been overweight pretty much my entire life. All I have known myself as is "the big goofy girl". I asociated my self esteem with my weight. Now that I have lost quite a bit of weight, my mind is still in the same place.I still can't seem to believe I deserve good things or people in my life. Just looking for tips from those who have lost a lot about the mental part of weight loss in terms of fixing self esteem. Thanks in advnace:)

One year later...
Wow, Congrats!!! So So happy for you. I think what you said in your third paragraph is SOOO key. People seem so ready to give up if they don't loose quickly, and thats not how it should be. Congrats again!

How long did you all take before having a drink?

3 months banded-65 pounds down- oh and a skin question too:)
Thank you all so much for your support and feedback! Much appreciated:) Audjbr: To answer your questions, I did loose 10 pounds pre-op, but the rest was post op weight loss. As for what I have done to loose so quickly? Im not sure:) I am quite tall (5'10) and my starting weight was around 300 pounds. So I think sometimes the heavier you start, the more rapidly you seem to loose weight initially. I do work out almost daily from 30 mins to an hour, and trying to eat high quality foods. To be honest I think the best thing I have done Is take all the pressure off of myself. I used to be so hard on myself before I had the band, when I would try to loose weight and fail. Now I don't care what the scales says, I am just trying to be the healthiest person I can be:) Good luck!

3 months banded-65 pounds down- oh and a skin question too:)
Hey all. I just passed my 3 month bandiversary and adore my band. I am 65 pounds down. Wow how life has changed! I have a question for bandsters who have had their weight off for a while. And in advance, sorry, it's a question about loose skin. :blushing: Just wondering if you have found once you got to goal if your skin tightened up a bit as it adjusted to your weight loss, or if it pretty much stayed the same? I realize this is dependant on many things, just looking for others experiences. Thanks! Melissa:tongue2:

0 pounds in 6 days!
Agreed with above. This is your new life, a new way of living. Relax, take time to heal. Don't be so hard on yourself. I am 3 months post op, and work out everyday, and eat well and there are still weeks I don't loose. Honestly, I don't care, I am focused on the big picture. So take care of yourself, and don't worry:)

How often should u get stuck at your sweet spot?
I'm at my sweet spot, and have been stuck maybe once. It shouldn't be something that happens a lot, not good for your band.

60g protein a day?
I am all about the protien shakes in the morning too. I dont find I get at all hungry as some have said that they slip through your band. I make mine with milk for a little more protien. So I start the day with about 35 grams of protien. Works really well for me!

Anyone banded on 7/16...
Hi everyone! I was banded on 7/20, and have been doing pretty well since. 4 weeks post op I had a fill of 4 cc ( I have the 14cc band) and have had 3 more fills since then for a total of 8cc in my band. My Doc is pretty aggressive with the fillls, which I thank him for:) I have lost about 55 pounds. I can eat 3/4 to one cup of food and not get hungry between meals. I am walking about 30 mins a day. Feel great overall. Good to hear how you guys are doing! Keep it up:)

Very Upset still after severe complications with surgery
Im so sorry to hear about your complications. That must have been a very startling way to wake up! Despite your initial setback, I have a feeling with time you will not regret your decision:) Keep focussed on why you wanted the operation in the first place. I have lost almost 50 lbs, just 1/3rd my weight, and I would already do this again a million times. I wish you luck!

Why do we have to wait so long between fills?
My doc also really listens to his patients, as to when they feel they need a fill based on hunger, weight loss etc. He will give me a fill every couple of weeks if I should need that. I have done really well with this. If your doc seems to be set in a structured way that is not indavidualized for each patient, maybe it's time to look elsewhere?

2 Month Surgiversary - 50 pounds:)
Hey Ladies... Thanks for all your sweet msgs. I have lost weight quite consistantly, with a lot being pre- op and immediatly post op. Since then I have slowed down a bit to a healthier 2-3 pounds a week. I am a tall girl (5'11) so I tend to loose pretty quickly. My doc is very aggressive with fills, and I have done really well with this. He will do fills every couple of weeks if you require. Any tips? Hmm, I don't obsess about food or weight- I think this is important. Have you heard the theory- What you focus on expands? Well, When I do get all wrapped up in numbers, and calories that is when I don't loose. I'm focussing on protien and veggies and looking at food as something good, and nourishing. I work out a few times a week. Generally walking, get my fluids in. And I do have healthy Snacks between meals. Some docs are against this, mine is not. The best advise I have is be gentle with yourself, and PATIENT. :blushing: Nuture yourself with Healthy foods, rest, and enjoy the simple things. In my personal life, and nursing career I see how much the mind affects our health. Wow, I'm rambling:) Goodnight... Melissa
