  1. As far as h-pylori, I have seen several posts from people who were diagnosed with this and were treated with 14 days of antibiotics and then were banded. You can use the search tool at the top of the web page and put in a key work like h-pylori to find threads with this information. Good luck!
  2. I am not sure if it will be okay, but I would call my doctor to play it safe.
  3. Wow! Alcohol after being post-op for about what 2 or maybe 3 weeks??? I don't know about that and I did not do that. I had wine for New Years Eve and to be honest it really went straight to my head. I was banded on 11/11/08. What does your doctor think about this?
  4. 1 to 2 pounds a week is average, so keep up the good work!
  5. Okay, I am going to go off topic here. A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to buy a home, which I really really desire!!! The mortgage company was going to hook me up with one of those zero down and adjusted mortgages, which would give me low payments at first and get me into a home. Home prices at the time were sky rocketing in Cali and I felt so much pressure to buy one. I knew in my heart that this was my dream come true...Home ownership as a single woman, something I really really want! But, being the realist that I am, I knew that if anything were to happen once that mortgage rate adjusted, there would be no way I could make the payments. So, I am still saving. I will tell you I am just as ticked off at people who took on mortgages that they obivously could not afford and now we are all paying for it. For me, its just of matter of financial common sense. If you cannot afford it you cannot have it, so why is that concept so hard for people to understand?
  6. The PC believes that the stress of the increased activity is messing with my metabolism. I feel a little bit more drained and joint aches in the finger, so I am thinking thyroid again! But he is thinking to much exercise. I am hoping it's just the 3-6 month when hair loss starts happening for some people. I take b12 under my tongue.
  7. The reason why I am so ticked is because I was raised in a manner that if you want something bad enough you earn the money to buy it and support it. I wanted a big family too! To me 4 was big, but that was what I really wanted, but we could not afford to support them, so we had two. I knew where I had to draw the line in order to provide the best opportunities for the children. I knew I did not want to be on government assistance to have more children. You know, there are many other things I want in life too, but it is beyond my means at this time to afford those things. So I will save and hopefully I will be able to have those those things that I want. But if I am not able to acquire what I really want then it just was not meant to be. I am not going to force my desires on the backs of the tax payers.
  8. Okay, as many of you know I have really been working hard increasing my exercise gradually. In January, I started jogging, something I have not done in years. While jogging, I increased the time and the distance a little bit each week. I am trying to train for a marathon. I am never going to be on the Olympic team and I am not doing this to win medals, but I was always an avid runner before and really enjoy it. So in the middle of January my hair starts falling out in the shower in clumps. We are talking chemo/radiation clumps. So this morning I took a shower and washed my hair and again huge clumps fall out. So I gather all the clumps of hair, place it in a baggie and take it over to my primary care doctor this morning. (I only wash my hair three times a week now) I am thinking it is either my thyroid meds needing adjustment. But my blood work from December for thyroid is okay. So the PC doctor states he thinks its my increased exercise and jogging. He wants me to decrease my exercise. I really don't want to do this. but I do not want to go bald either. Has anyone had this problem??? Please give me some feedback! My Protein levels are above 100 grams a day. My b1 and d12 are low, so now I am adding those Vitamins to to my daily routine. All other Vitamin levels are normal. I do blood work every month. We are going to retest my thyroid tomorrow morning. Thanks for your help!
  9. Not having a dad in the picture is the worse of all. Are you off your rocker? How about having more kids when you are not able to take care of the 6 you already have being the worse of all??? And how many times are you going to evoke God's name and His will into this sick twisted story? Pattygreen are you dipping into the wholly water or what, because again your arguments are weak and unrealistic. Read Kats post and do the math. She cannot provide 100% of herself to each child. And she does not have the financial means to support her children.
  10. California day care centers that are licensed charge around $800 per kid for full-time care. I hear more co-workes talking about it all the time as they struggle to pay the fees. Here is an article from 2006 with some old stats on day care costs. High costs of child care can lead to lifestyle changes, adjustments - USATODAY.com
  11. Could fall, hell it already has fallen upon us Californians with Octo-Mom collecting food stamps and other services for her 6 older children. Really, it just infuriates:cursing: me to no end that Octo-Mom cannot afford the 6 she has already and now there are 8 more. Where is CPS???? Mom is not able to take care of her 6 kids at home and one has to wonder how she is going to manage 8 preemies and all their health care issues.
  12. Pattygreen why will you not admit the wrongness to bring children into this world without the ability to provide for them via your own finances? Living off of government assistance to support her 6-kids that she has already is a clear sign of her inability to provide for her children. Plus, living in her parents home with reduced rent is another sign. Your arguments are weak and are based on projections of what might happen in the future. But at this point, this woman does not have the financial means to provide food, shelter, and medical care for her kids. I am for people having large families, but only when they can take care of their families on their own without government assistance. Why don't you come to California and help me support this selfish woman achieve her dream of a large family. We can take my tax dollars that I work so hard for and combine it with your tax dollars and help her out? How soon can you get to California and help us dole out some tax dollars to Octo-Mom?
  13. I took two weeks off. I have a full-time stationary job and I was in school full-time at the time (I am now done with school, just need to submit the thesis). I have two older adult children (one at home who is mentally ill and the other who lives out of state) so I did not have to worry about taking care any small kids. However, being single and not telling anyone about the details of this surgery, left me on my own for recovery. I planned ahead a time and purchased all my supplies in advance. And when my supplies ran short and I could not drive, I went on line and had groceries delivered. As far as cooking, I bought items that my son could heat up in the microwave, which I know is not the best of nutrition, but I just wanted to really focus on me and recover; not cook. I cleaned the house spotless before surgery, because I did not want to deal with it during recovery. I purchased my RX meds the day before surgery. All in all, I did well with recovery at home. By day 7-post op, I felt great. By two weeks, I was so ready to get back to work. Good luck!
  14. Hello E, Although there are cases of people having than stellar results from the band, that is true with any WLS procedure. It is important to be aware of the pros and cons as well as the failures and success. But, there are many more people who have positive experiences with the band and have great success! Keep researching and if you have time check out the link below. Lap-Band Success Stories (NEW!) - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum Good luck!
  15. Okay, I watched the Date-Line video that I recorded on Octo-Mom, and really all I can say is wow! When she talked about raising her family on student loans, I just cringed. I worked full time, went to school full-time as a single parent and I did take student loans out, but those loans are not for raising children. I could not raise children on student loans, because you do not receive that much money in student loans. I used my student loans for tutition, lab fees, books, transportation, supplies, and a lap top to take to school for my classes. But really there was not that much left to raise a family and I only had two children.
  16. Not sure Plain, but I am open to suggestions, so what do you suggest?
  17. Today: Off day, no exercise, back at it tomorrow.:crying:
  18. I like the concept of rewarding people for maintaining a healthy life. Perhaps an end of the year premium refund!
  19. So Pattygreen who is going to pay for her food, clothing and shelter for her 14 children, lets not forget all the medical bills as well?
  20. Here is an Associated Press Article: Meanwhile, the Center for Genetics and Society has joined the call for disciplinary action against the clinic that treated Suleman. In a statement Wednesday, the nonprofit public interest group said two professional organizations -- the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology -- should revoke the licenses of the fertility program for violating guidelines about embryo implantation. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine said it's investigating whether fertility treatment guidelines were broken. Suleman has said she underwent in vitro fertilization at a Beverly Hills fertility clinic run by Dr. Michael Kamrava. Without identifying the doctor, the Medical Board of California said last week it was looking into the Suleman case to see if there was a "violation of the standard of care."
  21. This has been an issue with me with a prior surgery. So my doctor pumped me up with two shots before they wheeled me into the operating room. The first shot was for nausea and the other shot was pepid ac or something or other. These shots went into my IV and the craziest thing is I could feel them going in the vein. Anyway, I did not get sick while in the recovery room. However, I had a hard time with pain meds after surgery, so the doctor gave me anti-nausea Patches, which worked great.
  22. I am so sorry for your loss!
  23. This is great advice Heather!:crying:
  24. With a fill you should feel full for longer periods with less food. However, since you were just recently banded and just had your first fill, you more than likely have not reach full restriction or sweet spot. For some people it can take several fills and it depends how much your doctor fills you with. If you are eating more than what you thought you could, please realize it does take time and you will get there. Hopefully with more fills you will reach a spot where less food keeps you feeling full longer, thereby helping you lose more weight.
