Let's Introduce Ourselves
Hi all! I'm Tonice, I'm 33 and have a 1 1/2 year old daughter. I live in Jersey. I've been approved with my insurance since I walked into the doctors office. My insurance didn't require any pre-approval process as long as I met their BMI requirement. I have been overweight all of my life. I lost about 50 lbs on LA weight loss a few years back, but gained it all plus more back! I'm hoping this will be the end of the road for my on my weight loss journey!

What are we going to eat????
Jaculin I live in NNJ. You welcomed me on my first thread to this site! I know....it's coming! I think once October is over, I will be very nervous! I would have been an October bander, but the date in October that my surgeon had available, I couldn't take off of work, so I had to take the next available date in November.

This the the band:
That's great! Good for you! I'm looking forward to shoping in the normal size stores!

What are we going to eat????
Jaculin ~ I'm hoping that I won't be interested in eating food on Thanksgiving day! My surgery is schedule for 11/21, which is the friday before. I don't think it would be as bad if I could just stay home, which is probably vertually impossible with a toddler. That's all I keep thinking about....being healthier and it's only 1 thanksgiving! I haven't thought about trying different Protein shakes now. I guess I should start on that to find one that I like. Jamie ~ Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to try to espcape to another room!

What are we going to eat????
I'm always thinking about what I'm going to eat post op. My biggest problem is that I'm having my surgery a week before thanksgiving! I have to stay at my moms that week so she can help me with my daughter, but my mom usually has thanksgiving dinner at her house, so I'm worried about how I would feel watching everyone eat any and everything thing while I sip on broth! I was even considering changing my surgery date, but I talked myself out of it, because there's always going to be a holiday or something that I have to face. So I'm worrying!

My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 21st with Dr. Trivedi out of Hackensack Medical Center in New Jersey. I'm trying to bribe someone to have thanksgiving early! LOL!

Hello
I haven't had the band put in yet, but my surgeon also presented both the band and GB at the seminar. He also said that they do whatever the patient chooses, so they don't put a person who wants the band to do GB or vice-versa. I think it should be your decision and not that of the surgeons. JMO!

Consult today....surgery date Nov. 21st!
I just have to see the dietician at the surgeon's office before surgery and she's free of charge after surgery, so I know that I'll be seeing her post-op. But for pre-op, it is not required for me to see a nutritionist for approval purposes with the insurance company. I have Oxford and as long as your BMI meets their requirements, they don't require you to go through different processes of approval, you're already approved for the surgery, which is pretty much why I was a little confused. I was expecting to have to go through all of the requirements that other insurance companies have.

Consult today....surgery date Nov. 21st!
The only thing that I am required to do is have blood work done, and EKG and chest xrays. But other than that...I don't have to do anything else. Not even a pre-op diet. Just no food or liquids after mid-night I think.

Consult today....surgery date Nov. 21st!
I had my consult today with the surgeon. Since my insurance doesn't require anything pre-certification...I can have my surgery quick! I was first given a date of 10/31, but because of my job, I can't take off the end thru beginning of the month, so I had to go with the November date. I'm excited and scared at the same time! After reading everything that most of you have/had to go through pre-op, I left the surgeon's office feeling a bit confused about why I didn't need a psych evaluation or needing to see a nutritionist for 6 months, but as it was explained to me....my insurance doesn't require it. I was just expecting that I'd have to do all of the things that I've read about on here. Oh well. Now the wait!

Beginning to Seek...
Hi Brandy! I have not had the surgery yet, I have my first consult with a surgeon on Friday! I am a single mom also, but my daughter is a lot younger, she's 17months. When I went to the seminar for the band, I asked the surgeon about caring for my daughter and I was told that I will not be able to pick her up for about 6 weeks, so I should get some help for that time. Other than that, I should/will be able to care for her soon after the surgery. I'm going to have to stay with my mom for the 6 weeks post op, but I guess it's not that bad compared to being overweight and being depressed about it. Do you have any friends that you can stay with or who'd be will to stay with your for a couple of weeks?

My First Consult Now I'm Confused!!
I haven't had my first consult yet, having that this Friday! But I'm choosing the band over GB, because of the excess skin issue and I don't want my stomach and intestines cut. Also, I like the fact the the band is a tool to help with my weight loss and can be removed.

Hi from NJ!
Hi Jaculin! I live in Bergen County. Are you excited about getting banded? Do you have any worries?
-
Hi from NJ!
Hi all! I've been reading a lot of your posts. You are all very informative! I'm seriously considering the band. I went to a seminar in July and I have an appointment to talk to a surgeon on the 12th. My concern and the reason I'm on the fence, is because I'm a single mom and My daughter is 17 months old. I know that I won't be able to lift her for about 6 weeks after surgery, so I'm not sure how I'm going to manage. On top of that, I can stay with my mom, but I really don't want to stay there for 6 weeks, but I'll deal with that when the time comes. My other concern is what happens with all of the skin! I don't have the money to have a tummy tuck once I loose the weight, so I'm pretty concerned about that. But I guess being obese is a lot worse then extra skin huh! Anyway...Looking forward to getting to know many, if not all, of you in my Quest to lose weight.
