Most of my family freaked out as well (except my brother, who said congrats). I found that focusing on the health benefits of the surgery tends to help get them in my corner…my physical AND mental health!

Hi! I chose it because it’s what I used to weigh when I ate healthy and exercised regularly (and yes this was after kids). I didn’t look too skinny as I’m pear-shaped so still had curves. I try not to obsess about bmi as it can drive you insane if you let it. I also have 5.5” wrists, which is considered small-boned for my height.

I’m 6 weeks from surgery and the wait is killing me! I decided to start lifting weights ?️‍♀️ so that I can start the healthy lifestyle process now.

That’s a great idea! As a nurse, I’ll tell you those mini multi-colored pens that attach to keychains are popular! They always get lost. Scrub caps, dry erase markers, coffee, and krispy Kreme donuts are all popular too.

Hi Lizzie, I’m in a similar situation. I’m getting gastric bypass in April and my bmi is 30-31. This was recommended by my doctor due to my GERD. You can maintain your weight until then by eating healthy, high protein shakes and lifting weights. This will help maintain muscle mass that you will need while you lose the weight. The rude and inappropriate comments by the jerks were unnecessary and clearly were spoken without thinking. You’ve done nothing wrong and don’t let them believe that for a second. Anyone can lose weight as evidenced by a mandatory liquid pre-op diet (to shrink the liver), but not anyone can maintain it without surgery. This surgery aids not only in long-term reduction from obesity, but long-term reduction in the health complications that come from it. It’s also better for your metabolism and lean muscle mass to have a long-term solution. I’ve watched many of my patients die from obesity. Do what is right for you and your family per your doctor’s recommendations.

I’m signed up for gastric bypass in Tijuana and it’s $5800 for self pay plus $400 flight. It starts around $15k where I live in the US and insurance won’t cover it so to Mexico I go…

It’s tiered based on bmi. I think I’d cheat if I was required to be on a clear liquid diet for weeks. I need queso dip to function ???

Hi! I signed up for the VSG on April 26th but recently decided to switch to the gastric bypass due to long-standing GERD. Now I’m impatiently waiting! I’m also doing it in Mexico (Tijuana) due to self-pay with bmi <35.
