Dr. Cywes v. Dr. Baptista, Jacksonville, FL (Long Post)
I too was banded by Dr B on 6/19/09 and I had a great experience with him. He made me cry on my first appt with him..and not in a bad way...just because he was kind and very supportive. His bedside manner is great. The practice also has the monthly support meetings for you to go to as well.

Hello New Here and Lots of Questions
I am recently banded and I could honestly say I would do it again. Honestly the only thing I was worried about was the anesethia, I have a small child and I was putting myself "under" voluntarily! In the surgery holding room I said to my husband...I don't think I want to do this and he assured me I would be fine. The wheeled me into the surgery room and I did everything I could not to look at anything lol...but my surgeon was there waiting for me with his great smile, took my hand, and said "you will be fine" and I was...next thing I remember was waking up on recovery lol! There are some things you should have on hand...Heating Pad, a sports bra for comfort, and the magic bullet Feel free to private message me if you have any questions regarding the recovery process / diet as this is all still very fresh in my mind
-
Okay, what would you do (preop diet related)
my liquid pre-op diet was only for 2 days but if yours is longer I don't see why waiting till you wake up will be any big deal.

Approved--- YAH!
Congrats on the approval...time will surely fly by till your surgery date...I know mine did

ok... getting scared....
I think your feelings are normal...I was really scared...even in the surgery holding area I said to my husband "I don't think I want to do this" but 8 days post op I am feeling pretty good. I went back to work on Wed of this week and I am looking forward to my mushies. You will do fine and we are all here if you have any questions or concerns!!!

Ok Husbands & Wifes...
wow what a great thread to start, I wish there was one like this before my surgery 1. Heating pad is a must must must...keep in mind it's going to be hard for her to bend at the waist to "plug" things in so when it's time to move from the couch to the bed remember to help her move her things with her. 2. Gas X melt strips...I couldn't stomach the thought of swallowing anything other then a FEW sips of Water let alone anything that tasted NASTY. the strips are great because she can tear small pieces at a time and they do in fact melt away. 3. check with the surgeon before hand if they are going to be providing liquid pain meds...mine did liquid lortab. My hubby filled my pains while I was in recovery so all we had to do was go home. 4. lots of pillows - I was able to sleep in my bed with 4 pillows so I was pretty upright...who doesn't want to sleep in there own bed. 5. support getting up and sitting down..we use a lot of our stomach muscles to do this and it's hard to get up and down..I am 8 days post op and I still have a hard time. 6. walk with her...help her get up and try to encourage her to walk every hour or so even if it's just for a couple of minutes...this will help with the gas pains and prevent blood clots from forming. 7. don't dare mention the word sex lol...she will let you know when she is ready  I told my hubby today I think I may need just a couple of more days...it hurts when my belly jiggles. 8. my hubby and son didn't eat in front of me but honestly it really didn't bother me...I had no appetite at all anyway! Day 1, 2, & 3 I was totally out of it and slept most of the day mainly because I took my pain meds every 5 hrs :tt1: Day 5 I was back to work BUT...even though she may head back to work that doesn't me she can come home and do laundry, cook, and clean...that part is going to take a couple of weeks sooo...just be as supportive as you can during that time...it already appears as though you are anyway!!! Your both going to do great!!! And you know everyone here is available for any questions you may have

Swallowing difficulties - 3 weeks post op
could you possibly feeling tight because it's that time of the month? From my understanding that sometimes happens
-
Do you still measure...
I was told by my MD not to measure but to take small bites, chew well, and don't eat for more then 15 minutes.
-
What is....
1. I don't think I will ever be able to eat Cinnamon Rolls, sasauge gravy and biscuits, or pizza Hut Deep Dish Pizza again. I have been steadily trying to think of a replacement for these items but have come up with nothing. 2. I can't get away from ice cream, probably because it goes down so easily. I don't have much of a sweet tooth thank goodness. 3. Yesterday was my first day of soft foods and I really have been enjoying soft boiled eggs with salt. I love making my deli meat and cheese rolls and on occasion dip them in mayo. 4. When I am feeling like I want to eat kinda bad I make a philly cheese steak with out the bread using steak ums, onions, peppers, and cheese wiz...believe it or not it really tastes the same. I love to make chicken salad with mayo, finely chopped cranberries, and small apple pieces. ***anyone able to eat think crust pizza from pizza hut??***

First Menstrual cycle...Help
Ok...so TMI I know but...I am just starting into my first menstrual cycle and I am feeling kinda funny. I was banded 6/19 and tomorrow is my first day of mushies (yeah). I'm feeling a little light headed and dizzy today...could this be that I am just really hungry or is this normal with your cycle after being banded.

shoulder tip pain...OMG
thank you so much for your quick replies...that was pretty scary for sure. I was in tears for a minute there...I took my pain meds (liquid Lortab) which I haven't had to do in 2 days and got my heating pad out. Whew...it has backed off. Going back to work tomorrow and for certain liquid tylenol and my heating pad are going to be in my tote bag Thanks again all...everyone has been so great on here :smile2:

shoulder tip pain...OMG
hi all, I was banded on 6/19 and have been dealing with a significant amount of gas. Today was the first day I was feeling relief HOWEVER....out of the blue I have this intense stabbing pain in my left shoulder tip. Is this the last of the gas trying to get out??? OMG this is worse then all the gas pains combined

Just wanted to share my stupidity!
I was just banded on 6/19 and I am due to go on my very first cruise in October. It's a 5 days cruise. I am going to have the anti-sickness patch in case but do you have any other suggestions as far as eating.

How long until back to work / Toddlers?
I had surgery 1st thing in the morning on 6/19. I am hoping to go back to work tomorrow. I slept slept slept Fri, Sat, & Sun setting an alarm to wake me up to walk because of the gas pains. I had no desire what so ever to drink anything until yesterday (monday) when I finally was able to have broth, popsicles, and water. This morning I took my 4 yr old to summer camp for the first time and made short stop at the food store...that took a lot out of me came home and napped for 2 hrs. I really think it depends on your job. I have an desk job that requires me to talk on the phone a lot. I think that is going to be the hardest part of all because I still have a lot of gas and it hurts for me to talk because the gas is in my shoulders, neck, and chest. I had hopes like you to go back to work this past Monday but there was just no way. The best advice I could give is prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

I was just wondering am I alone
I am pretty much in the same boat as you and my post op was on 6/19 as well. Just wondering what your MD said?

3+ weeks out and need food ideas
I was banded on June 19th but I had to do a strict low carb high protein diet for my ins co for 6 months pre-op. Fajitas is a great treat w/out the tortilla shells and if you find a good mex restaurant go crazy with the cheese queso and sour cream...really tastes the same with or w/out the tortilla shells. Also I found a nice treat was to make Steak-ums with onions, peppers, and cheeze wiz - low carb - high protein - and again tasted the same w/out the bread. I also found a great cookbook called Hungry Girl which has receipes under 200 calories and she gives all the facts of serving sizes with nutritional info. Has some great smoothie receipes and great dips for your crackes and such. Hope this helps...I myself can't WAIT to get to the soft food stage
