Detached port
I had no idea mine had flipped, until I went for a 3rd fill. The only thing I can think that I did was right after Hurricane Ike, I went to help our local grocer clean the mud out of his store like a lot of other people here that were fortunate enough not to get flooded. When I bent down to clean the bottom shelf, I felt a pain in the port area. I did not think it was enough to tear the port loose, but that is the only time I ever felt a pain like that. The dr doesn't even know, but I will take responsibility this time, but I have been extra careful since the 2nd surgery. If it happens again maybe the muscle is just not strong enough to hold. If that is the case, I will talk to him about the sleeve. jazie

Detached port
I had to have mine repositioned. One side had torn off the muscle and flipped around. When he went back in he put a lot of stitches and I could feel it was a lot tighter. The surgery was just about the same as the first one. With the same restrictions. I haven't had a fill since, so he won't know if it is positioned right until the end of this month when I go in for another fill. We don't know what caused it, I was the first he had to do this to. I was when I was about 11 weeks out. jazie

Just gotta ask, BM?
My dr also said Miralax. I tried it for a few days but no luck. Now I am eating Shredded Wheat AND taking Miralax and it is doing wonders. The only thing is that the shredded wheat has 40 carbs. For a while I will have to deal with the trade off. Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon. I am almost 4 months out. jazie

Hair loss after surgery?
I tried the Biotin, but had mega side effects. Maybe I started off with too much. I think it was Biotin 5000. Should I be taking a small dose to begin? Thanks, jazie

What's up with the Psychologist appt????
I talked to the psychologist for maybe 15 minutes. The rest was answering questions on paper. I think he was looking to see if maybe I wanted the band for the wrong reasons. I am not sure what they would be but maybe to see if you are stable enough to make your own decision about having the surgery. Anyway, all went well and I now am banded. jazie

6 Weigh-Ins - GAINING not losing
I will vote with dperson. I do water aerobics and it is so good for arthritis. It will actually make your pains go away. I have done it for 8 years and when I miss a week I hurt again. Great exercise! jazie

port problem
Did your dr say why this happened? And did your insurance pay for both revisions? I didn't even question my insurance because it all happened so fast. Had the 2nd surgery the day after we tried to do my 3rd fill. jazie

port problem
I had to have my port repositioned. It will be 2 weeks Thursday since my surgery. We don't really know what happened, but it was turned backward. The surgery was not bad at all. I think I felt it a little more afterward (port) but I am sure that the dr made sure it wouldn't happen again. I have an appointment Thursday and will have more time to talk to him about it. This would have been my 3rd fill but he couldn't do it. When he did the surgery, he did the fill then. Someone on here told me her dr said it may be the dissolving stitches he used to suture the port in place. I don't even know if my dr used them. I will find out Thurs. jazie

When were you cleared to EXCERCISE!
I was cleared at 4 weeks for water aerobics and that was so my incisions would heal before I got back in the pool. I would not do anything like riding a bike though. When I went in for my 3rd fill, my port had flipped and I had to go back to surgery to have it repositioned. I rode a stationary bike a little before 4 weeks, I am not sure what caused the flip, but I will wait 8 weeks before doing that again. Now I am out of water aerobics again for 3 more weeks. I do walk though. jazie

Repositioning port
I had to go back in hospital and be put to sleep. then they repositioned the port, sewed it good (I hope). The surgery was not bad and not as long as the long as the first one. I had a little more recovery time, but after a few days I was as good as new. I can feel my port now and it still feels parallel to my skin. I could only feel a corner before. I had my initial surgery on July 1, 2008. I have lost 41 lbs, so the port is a lot more visible now. It is not bad so don't worry. When he did the port he also put in my 3rd fill and I feel the restriction now. Good luck, jazie

Hot tub?
My Dr told me to wait 1 month to be sure all was healed. I do water aerobics though, maybe if it is a personal hot tub, not as long. jazie

Gas pains.....
My solution was to lie down on my left side. I just did this by accident, but it really helped me. I am 3 months out and if I eat something that causes gas, I still use it. Worked for me! Good luck. jazie

Repositioning port
That sounds logical. I have lost just about what you have so maybe that is the answer. Another bander said her dr said she was the 3rd patient of his that this happened to, and they all had the dissolving stitches. That sounds possible also. I may go in to see my dr tomorrow, I am not feeling that well and I want to make sure there is no infection. If I do I will ask his opinion. Jazie

Dry Heaving 4 days post op!
I was given a patch behind my ear plus something in IV because I have a history of nausea after surgery. I have had 2 surgeries with this and I will always ask for the patch now. jazie

Post-Op Meds (Cost for Self-Pay)
I am not sure what you are calling post op meds. Do you mean for the pain? I wasn't self pay but I really did not have post op meds except for generic Vicodin. I only took one after surgery. My second surgery, last Thursday, to reposition my port, after it flipped, I already had the pills but they prescribed more. Only took one of those also. I think that was only because of the long ride home. Hang in there, you have come this far. Jazie

Subway - rude servers
I have never had that rudeness when I am there. I do know that they offer a Mini Sub now. Not sure what the price is, it may be the same as a 6 inch sub. I can eat a little bread but I try not to have much starches. jazie

Looking to talk w/ someone similiar to me
I have all the things that you do. I took 2 Byetta shots a day, 1 of Levemir, 100 mg of Januvia besides all the rest for the other things you mentioned. The day before my surgery my band Dr. took me off all Byetta, Then a couple weeks after I went, my Dr. brought me down to 50 Januvia. So now it is 40 of Levemir. Hopefully in a few more months I will be off all diabetes meds. High Blood pressure runs in my family so I don't mind that. My biggest accomplishment was getting off the Byetta. How I lived with those side effects for a year, I just don't know. My Dr did tell me that Gastric Bypass will eliminate diabetes, but band may only reduce it. I am thinking positive. My goal is to be off all diabetes meds in 6 months. Had my band on July 1st and I have lost 42 lbs. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I did have to have a little surgery yesterday. My port was tilted and dr had to reposition it. He said 2 sutures on one side had come loose. No one knows why, but I will not exercise hard for 8 weeks. I will only walk and that is after a couple of weeks.

Surgery to reposition my port
Don't sit and wait for this to happen. My dr was puzzeled also. He didn't tell me this was his only one to have to do, but judging by his words and his staff, I don't think he has had another case. I was #1172 of band patients for him. So it must be pretty rare.

Surgery to reposition my port
I am thinking it will pay. Not really sure though. My ins. covers 100% after 650 out of pocket and I am way above that. It all happened so quickly, I didn't ask questions. I will call my dr tomorrow and find out more about it and let you know. jazie

Surgery to reposition my port
Had my surgery today. All went well. The dr said that 2 sides of the 4 sutures were undone. I still dont know how that happened. I will see him in 2 weeks, if not before. And maybe he will have an idea about it. Actually, the worse thing is going back to clear liquids. I was in surgery a total of 30 minutes. And a little sore after I rode 40 miles home but feel good tonight. jazie

Surgery to reposition my port
No symptoms, the dr could just not do a fill. I could hear the needle hitting the back side of the port. Have to be at hospital at 6 am so I will let you know the outcome. Another person told me it was very minor surgery. Be back tonight. jazie

Surgery to reposition my port
I will be having surgery tomorrow to put my port back where it should be. For some reason it has flipped around backwards. When I went in for 3rd fill, dr found out it was reversed. I really wonder if it is more than that. I had some restriction after 2nd fill but now I have none. I will wait to exercise for a little longer, but I was told it could be because the sutures for the port could have been the disolving ones, and now maybe they need to be regular sutures. If anyone has thoughts on this please let me know. I will tell my dr about the sutures, I am not sure what kind he used but I definately don't him to replace them with the disolve kind. Thanks for your thoughts jazie

Type II Diabetes Management after surgery
I have type 2 and immediately after surgery, I was taken off Byetta. I took a Byetta injection twice a day. I take 1 Levemir injection, and Januvia 100 once a day.I now take 50 Levemir once a day, and went down from 100 to 50 Januvia. Just getting off Byetta was worth the band surgery. I have lost 42lbs since July 1st. I expect to keep lowering my meds until I am off all of them. I know I will always be on high blood pressure meds I have been on them since I was a young woman and when I was slim. Can't remember those days too well now. Good luck! Jazie

Repositioning port
I don't know where my post went but I am wondering if anyone has had to have their port repositioned? Mine has flipped and I am wondering if you know why? Had a good reply today that it was the dissolving stitches that may have caused it. If that is true, I sure don't want the same thing again. Would love to hear from any of you. Surgery scheduled for Thursday. jazie
