  1. Agree with this. It's all about how you feel and if you think you can handle it. At the end of the day it's best to stick to your dieticians word. I'm not trying to give you a reason to do anything but I have noticed the wls guidelines in the US are very anti drink vs. Europe. I personally think you're too early on and your stomach is probably still healing. I will tell you I went against my dieticians word and had a drink before the 6 month mark she gave me because I go to a lot of events and parties. I had a long talk with myself and my mom (who is a physician) and came to the conclusion to just try one drink. I made sure it had no sugar or carbonation in it so I did a vodka water with lemon juice. Personally it didn't hit me any different than pre op. I had the drink 2 months and some weeks post op. I will say you can feel the alcohol a lot more (not in the getting drunk sense) but you can feel it go down your esophagus and into your stomach and intestines and it hurts and burns and even makes you cramp a little. Not very pleasant. Anyway, it's up to you. 3 weeks is pretty early on. I will say at 3 weeks I was so focused on feeling better and hydrated I did not want a drink. It might make you feel awful because you're recovering. In my opinion, just have a mock tail. If not, try to decide if it's really worth it, if you can handle maybe getting sick at a big event or bad dehydration without being able to chug water or eat greasy foods the next day.
  2. Thanks! I'll look into a glucose monitor. Would you say the biggest symptom is nausea? That seems to be the overbearing feeling I have been experiencing after eating foods I tolerated before. And its like a discomfort in my organ/stomach area, not too high or too low, just in the middle.
  3. Just to reiterate, I'm going to ask my doc about this but it's getting incredibly expensive and I owe them money already so I wanted to just check first if random nausea is a normal thing this far into it.
  4. I think it depends your age. I just turned 27 and I looked younger when I'm not so heavy.
  5. Hey! I had my bypass Feb 14 this year. It's been pretty smooth sailing honestly up until the last week. Everytime I eat, about 15 minutes later I get extremely nauseous and even start retching. I threw up the other day actually after eating a protein yogurt but nothing came out. Just some red stuff from a pill I took. I'm not eating sugar or high carb foods. It's all stuff I ate before no problem. Liquids seem to be fine but I've had things like eggs, avocado, protein yogurt, cheese and cooked vegetables and wow do I feel like I need to throw up after. I eat slow and stick to small portions too. And then every now and then after eating I get incredibly fatigued and feel like I need to go to sleep. I've never had issues with insulin/pre diabetes or diabetes and feel like that's unlikely since I've been in weight loss mode and barely eating. It's getting difficult to reach my protein goal because I get so sick all of a sudden after eating. I really don't want to fall behind on things. Wondering if this is a stricture or normal? Am I becoming intolerant to certain foods or is the restriction just going strong? Feels so all of a sudden. Is there something I can do for a couple days to "reset" like only liquids or something?
  6. That's what we're here for! It's so worth it and can't stress how temporary the no food thing is. You got this!!
  7. It took me a week and I'm almost 3 months out and still have issues with it. The more water the better. Walking is really important too to get things moving.
  8. I've learned that it's all about your surgery center's guidelines. Some places don't give calorie limits while some are really strict about it. I was concerned that I was eating too much in my puree phase but its generally fine to eat 600-800 calories so early on. It's a huge deficit lol and not like you're eating 1800+ . My dietician said around 800-900. Once I'm healed even 1000/1200 is normal. I'd ask your dietician to see if they have any specific requirements for you.
  9. Awesome, congrats! That's always a good feeling. I'm almost 3 months out from gastric bypass and have been going on trips. I honestly like it because its a break from the scale obsession and I always lose weight because I'm more active anyway while traveling.
  10. It scares me too! American Airlines, spirit and jetblue seems to have bigger seatbelts in my experience. Good luck with your flight. You'll be fine especially with that extender!
  11. Thisss^^^ I hate that my family is so focused on my weight. I understand the point of it being for health and genuine concern but they say awful things to me so I hate when people comment on my weight loss. My brother asked me the other day "it's easier now that your legs aren't so fat right?" Like I couldn't believe the phrasing. I just said I'm not sure what you're asking and walked away. Feels like people want to comment on your weight just to let you know how much they hate fatness rather than genuine praise or anything . I just avoid it all together. And if someone doesn't know I had surgery, I just say I've been eating healthier and developing better habits.
  12. I just tell people that I started eating really healthy lol
  13. I was an avid home cook and baker before surgery and am happy to announce I still am after. There's plenty of things we can cook and eat post op still once you're back to eating regular foods. I do protein pasta with a protein of some kind, I did almond flour crust Pizzas, I've done veggie bowls, omelets, burrito bowls, bariatric friendly cake and brownies, broccoli cheddar soup. My fave right now is a bariatric friendly Cobb bowl since I can't eat raw leafy vegetables yet. It has baked peppers and kale, wild rice, avocado, red onion, cherry tomatoes, cheese, boiled egg, olives, vegetarian bacon and a dijon lemon garlic vegan dressing I make. Here's a pic of it. One bowl has about 22 grams of protein, good amount of fiber too.
  14. You can do it! I had two weeks on my pre op diet. Some things that helped: get different flavor shakes you like. Blend them with ice so you feel like you're having milkshakes. Stock up on sugar free jello and popsicles. I also sucked on sugar free jolly ranchers when I wanted to put something in my mouth. If you're allowed a small protein meal a day, eat it really slowly. When I got sick of the sweet stuff I made vegetable broth with chopped raw scallions in it. It goes by so fast and if you just have a week, you'll be done in no time!
  15. Great to hear everyone! On my end, I've lost 42 lbs. I can pretty much eat everything but I stay away from bread, white sugar/high sugar food/drink, and raw vegetables per my doc's order. I tried alcohol for the first time two weeks ago.. a vodka shot with water and lemon juice while out with friends. Didn't get super drunk really fast or anything, pretty much felt the same as it did before surgery. I do get very nauseous randomly on some days but for no apparent reason. I'm still on the nausea medication. I find that if I'm dehydrated and constipated, it makes me want to throw up. I take extra strength stool softeners every day along with my vitamins too. I've thrown up twice, once Feb, once in March, from eating too fast and getting food stuck in my esophagus. Doc said I can wait for it to pass but I find it so uncomfortable that I just need to throw it up. Definitely getting really good at eating slowly now and have learned my lesson. I just got back from a trip and barely ate anything on the trip or got in my 64 oz each day because I was out doing so much with people. I've been incredibly nauseous for the past 24 hours partially from constipation, my period and what I'm suspecting is dehydration. I am really good at getting in all my protein and water when I'm home but I have so much trouble keeping up with everything once my routine is switched up. I travel a lot so this is something I definitely need to get better at. The dehydration is no joke.
  16. Really trying to internalize this! [emoji173]
  17. I really appreciate everyone. I was so upset last night. Was definitely venting and just trying to find a place to get it out. I know I can't let these experiences live "rent free" in my head. It was actually the first time I felt self hatred since my surgery though. Definitely brought up some old bad feelings. My dad was really verbally abusive to me growing up and I had a boyfriend who also made comments about my size so I'm incredibly self conscious now. Just looking forward for people to not say anything about my size at all. That'll be nice.
  18. Ughhhh how do you deal with fat shaming post op? I was standing outside and a car drove by and screamed at me "what are you a linebacker?!" In front of a bunch of people. We ignored it but it hurt pretty bad.. I feel so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I have so much self hatred that I'm trying to undo. I've lost a good amount of weight but I'm still big and very tall...feel so unfeminine. I'm trying so hard to not let this get to me But I'm hurt. It felt like high school bullying. I'm wondering when ill reach the low 200s so I'll look "normal". I feel like I'm in this weird physical transitionary state. Before my surgery it was like I felt like I had to prove somehow that I was actively working on my weight. Now it's like I am, I had surgery and I work on weight loss without thinking about it and don't feel like I need to say anything but when someone calls me fat or makes a mean comment, it puts me back in that mental jail of being 330+ lbs. It so depressing. I don't know, it's weird. I know I'm fat but I'm also losing weight. I just want to be comfortable with myself regardless of what people say but damn it puts me in a bad place to be bullied while trying to hard to get healthy.
  19. Same I have to take an international flight next month and the tickets are over 1000 because im too scared to fly coach. I'm still big and tall and just too ashamed to ask for an extender. So looking forward to being a normal size so I dont have to deal with this anymore.
  20. Really hoping sooo. I don't know why but the thought of asking for an extender scares the crap out of me. I feel so ashamed mostly. I remember being like frozen in place when it didn't buckle last time. Even if I wanted to ask I was in total fight or flight mode and couldn't.
  21. It was pretty close just missed it. I could actually buckle it but it would pop open though. I don't measure myself but everything that was tight on me before is now really loose. I guess it would.help to measure myself. I know at my heaviest I fit into the Spirit airlines BIG seats so I could do some math from there.
  22. Have my first post op airplane ride tomorrow. So fricken nervous. The last time I was on a plane, I weighed around 324 lbs. I flew southwest and the buckle didn't close, I was so damn embarrassed I covered the buckle with my arm against myself and just prayed the attendant didn't notice. Now im about 270 lbs, still have a ways to go but im terrified the buckle won't fit again. I've flown at 280 and the buckle fit on jet blue and coach american. I'm hoping it'll be okay but still have so much anxiety. I got the bigger seats in the front on American Airlines this time but Ughhhh can this weight come off already? This is probably one of the worst parts about being obese. I love traveling but hate that I'm so scared and embarrassed of not fitting into plane seats. I know it'll be huge NSV when the buckle isn't suffocating my lower stomach and sides but just being confident enough that I fit any plane seatbelt is so annoying. I'm trying not to beat myself up but it's so frustrating when you've lost 70 lbs and you're still dealing with things like this.
  23. Anyone else LOVE the whole foods hot bar? I love that you can choose your own portions so you waste less. Was on the go and wanted some food quick so I got myself some tofu, squash, egg Salad and a potato samosa. Was really feeling the restriction so I ate this over the course of the whole day.
  24. Thanks! I'll give it a whirl
