  1. I am 2 weeks post op and while things seem to be going ok...I have gained 5 pounds back this week! HOW does one gain weight when they are on an all liquid diet of less than 800 calories a day? The only thing NEW is that my General Dr. cut out my heart pill which is a diuretic, and lowered my insulin in half and cut my BP meds down 75%. Not sure why the weight gain, but it is ticking me off to no end! It is not like I am cheating and EATING something... Very discouraged at this point!
  2. I also use the Centrum silver chewables and find them to be pretty good. I also use a chewable fiber and find that it is more grainy. Perhaps you can grind the vitamin up in a shake?
  3. Love the idea of flavoring the yogurt with fruit preserve...amazing!
  4. WOW...that seems so long to go on just clear liquids..are you NOT doing any Protein drinks yet at all? You body must be eating itself to death by now! ANy fruit juice, frozen fruit bars,???? If all you are having is clear liquid what is caloric intake? DId you call your dr and ask about this...did you not get a hand out from the nutritionist? I have been on Liquids for a month, but not clear..that was only 5 days...3 pre-2post....but I do not get FULL liquid(pureed food) until week after next! SO planning on pureed grilled salmon and sweet potato! Hang in there...but call the DR or the nutritionist!
  5. Thanks for the reply. I took the demerol (SP?) the first two night, but not since. Will try something warm to drink tonight. I have chewable benefiber as well.
  6. ok. I was banded on 9-4. Talk about pain..still...and now I am wondering something. After all the reading I have done, I am reading that people suffer from the "liquid in-liquid out" syndrom. I have plenty of liquids going in, but NOTHING is coming out. I urinate just fine, 3-4 times a day, but that is all. I started back on the Protein shakes yesterday, so maybe that will move things along, but should I be concerned at this point and start taking something?
  7. I was told mushrooms are a no-no for at least 6 months!
  8. I too was banded on Friday (9-4)..and talk about pains... my allergies have my sinuses draining non-stop, so I am constantly coughing stuff up. My ribs and chest hurt so bad... and I am the lucky recipient of "5" incisions! Not sure why, but can not wait to ask the Dr on Tues! Is the pain in the left shoulder gas still...I have been doing chewable gas-x, but feel it has not done much... sucking on fruit-sicles and drinking 8oz of juice 3 times a day and Water the rest. Does that sound about right? Tomorrow I am to start the 8oz Protein shakes 3 times a day..not sure if I can do that much yet!
  9. I had my surgery Friday and can not tolerate much more than 2oz of fruit juice and sips of water all day long...occassionaly a sugar free fruit juice pop helps, but my the pains are terrible!
  10. OH my..I am being banded TOMORROW and I just NOw find this string of Diabetic threads...geeezzz anyway...I am type 2, and have been on insulin for the last 6 years! I am on insulin because at first I had a reaction to Metformin, then they put me on Glyburide, and that made things worst because I have having lactic acidosis and the GP did not listen me. SO long story short, I was paralyzed for 6 months from the waist down...went off the meds by my own accord...was fine 3 weeks later! two years later, sugars started going back up so by then I was living in the Ak bush and had only Indian health hosp to go to. They did not have any other meds to put me on, so insulin it was. For the last 18 months I have been on Lantus, once a day and 75units. Before that it was R & NPH 4 times a day! I had a low yesterday morning and was wobbly, until I got some juice. Today my stomach just hurts, and I have a headache. BUT I am having surgery tomorrow! So I do not want to push the carb envelope at this point. I have lost 18 pounds in the last 3 weeks. How will I know when to lower my insulin dosage? How many calories a day is needed to maintain sugars and weight loss? I know with the bypass they say you are pretty much off insulin instantly, but the banding is different. SO I am prepared to wait to be off of it, but I want to make sure I am doing things proper to ensure staying off of it! Thanks for any info!

  12. Is anyone else using this website to track food, exercise, etc? I just love it! and there is a BANDSTER group on there for that extra support! Check em out!
  13. my labs show my WBC count is 11.5! Hoping this will not cancel/postpone my surgery on Friday!
  14. Your goal weight is just that, YOUR goal weight. Only you know when you feel right and healthy. It might not fit the "charts" they like to use, but go by your BMI and gut feeling. Age, # of kids, etc, all play a part in how you will feel as you lose. My Dr. told me that although the chart says I should be 132, I would be look and feel better at 155! Still over weight for 5'4", but at nearly 50, I am ok with that as a goal!
  15. was wondering if any of you Tricare Prime patients have had a fill yet and if so, what did it cost you?
  16. I am due to be banded on Friday, Sept. 4th! I am insulin dependent and have found not one single other IDD to talk to about the banding! Would seriously love to talk to someone else like me! Thanks in advance!
  17. I on day 5 of my pre-op diet, get banded on the 4th if all goes well.. I must be the only Insulin dependent diabetic on here getting banded in Sept as I have ask several questions directly related to the insulin and have gotten no replies. It is getting harder to control my sugars, I have morning fasting numbers over 175, and I have NEVER in 6 years of being on insulin had numbers like this...I stay within 80-100 all day! Wish I could get answers as to why this happening. I am eating less than 1,000 cal. a day with only 1 meal being FOOD...the rest is all protein shakes, jello, yogurt and pudding..ALL sugar free of course! Anyone else nervous?:w00t:
  18. Tricare Prime here as well..so far approval was fast and easy, BUT what all are they NOT paying for? I am out $120 for the dietician, and another $120 for the Upper GI...I was lucky and my cardiologist appt. was a yearly so the EKG came with that, and I am due for my quarterly labs, so that is covered, and the base did the chest x-ray today...but hopeing there are no other HIDDEN costs Tricare is not paying for! After all, I am going all the money I can muster up for the new WARDROBE...ehehehhe
  19. these devices sound interesting, but costly. Has anyone joined sparkpeople.com? It lets you log in all the food you take in, and the stuff you do, it has videos on workouts, etc....simple to use and a great tool to track your progress. CHECK IT OUT!
  20. I found out end of July early Aug that I was approved, and my surgery is set for Sept. 4th!
  21. Is there an official September 2009 GROUP yet?
  22. wow..they are going to band you with a BMI that low?
  23. AMEN...I cancelled my surgery last year, because the place I went to first was a GROUP center. I went to their REQUIRED first meeting, to learn about the surgeries, and find out all of the info. They wanted you to buy only THEIR shakes, meals, etc, upfront, you had to only use THEIR physical therapist, physch, nutritionist, lab, etc...that was NOT covered my insurance, so I was looking at $2,000 out of pocket... The whole thing was like an INFO-MERCIAL! Top that off with the Dr being more obese than I am! I have no regrets in NOT having my surgery done there! I found a much better place that my insurance covers and have really enjoyed working with the whole staff...and I used my Cardio, gyn, special surgeon, lab etc since I am 2 hrs away from the surgery center! Been a much better ordeal already!
