You will be ok unless you get other symptoms like a chesty cough/ bronchitis. Then you may need a chat with the anaesthetist.

summerseeker reacted to Arabesque in Post op fever
Give your team a call & see what they advise. Have you taken any Tylenol to get it down? It could be just a post operative fever which is quite common after a surgery but better to be sure.

summerseeker reacted to Shotputqueen in Under 200!
For the first time in years, I'm under 200 pounds. Woo hoo. Lost 34 pounds pre-op and now 24 post-op. Surgery was on October 2nd. Weight loss has been slower than I expected, but my nutritionist said that I have lost 48% of my excess weight and am right on track. Yay!

summerseeker reacted to Amanda-Cleckner in Trouble with malnutrition
Yes without even trying it just fell off and I became weak and I am still struggling with extreme fatigue and weakness my muscles have wasted away I will have to post a picture of when I was 145 and weight training last year to me dropping that weight now looks like my muscle just vanished.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel worse today than I did yesterday after my surgery. Is this normal?

summerseeker reacted to kcuster83 in I DID IT!!!!
Y'all I DID IT!!! 1 YEAR AND 8 MONTHS POST OP AND I HIT MY GOAL!! 🤩
Now, I know my little "signature" doesn't reflect that, but my REAL goal which my surgeon and myself agreed on was 225 lbs and I AM THERE!! I am also very satisfied here, especially if the skin was gone. My "new/documented" goal is 210 lbs just so I can officially say I lost OVER 50% of my starting body weight! I am so excited!!
NOW TIME FOR SKY DIVING!!!! As my personal reward, as soon as it gets warmer I JUMP!!!!
SOOOO much has changed, I don't even know where to start!
DO IT, DON'T WAIT- DO IT NOW! ZERO REGRETS!

summerseeker reacted to NickelChip in So Confused and Upset Right Now
I called again this morning and the person who answered let slip that the entire weight management center at the hospital is closing. So, I am not the only person impacted by far. He said that a manager is supposed to call everyone to explain, but still nothing has happened. Maybe tomorrow? As for what happens next, I'm not sure. The hospital was recently acquired by another big Boston hospital, which has a bariatric department of its own. I assume they are trying to integrate all of the departments across the system to eliminate redundancies, but their communication so far has been appalling. Why they wouldn't have planned for this by shutting down the pipeline of patients months ago so that all surgeries were completed before the closure is a mystery. I attended my full day immersion class in August and completed all my requirements on October 6. At that point, they were booking 10+ weeks out and there was no indication anything was changing. This isn't an independent bariatric practice where I could see there being management or money issues, but a center that is part of a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. I find it shocking to say the least. I've spent most of the day wishing whichever faceless bureaucratic suit responsible for this trips and falls into a fiery pit. Clearly emotional intelligence was not a job requirement.

I'm supposed to have my surgery on Dec 27th at Mt Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA, with pre-op tests scheduled for next week. Today, I get an automated message from my hospital to check MyChart. I did, and it showed my pre-test appointment as canceled. My surgery date is also gone from my upcoming visits. No explanation. Meanwhile, my insurance approval appears to have gone through. I called the weight management center's office and the receptionist mumbled something about surgeries being canceled and someone would call to explain. No one has called all day. I emailed, too, but nothing. Now the office is closed for the day and I'm so worked up over this, I won't get a wink of sleep. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it had to be delayed, except I am currently on an insurance plan through the healthcare marketplace as I am self-employed and my husband has been unemployed for a bit. But he starts a new job in January and I have no idea what the health insurance situation is going to be in terms of coverage. I am so stressed right now I could cry.

summerseeker got a reaction from Chiggerbug in They cancelled my 8/15 surgery, after I expressed my concerns!
In a little while you will realise that you have had a very lucky escape. They have treated you so very badly. Please name and shame them. You have every right.
You are crying and so upset because you are grieving the loss of this surgery. You wanted it so much, you feel as if your heart is broken. I would have been the same. Go and see your own doctor and get a new surgeon asap.

summerseeker reacted to BriarRose in successful Total knee replacement !!!
A dozen years since my sleeve. Maintaining my weight... I am now 67 years old. I have been bone on bone on both knees for years. I finally had the first knee replacement. Let me tell you.... this is no joke. I am very stoic and don't get crazy about anything. The level of pain in the first few weeks was epic. However the thing that has me totally entranced is that I am now in Physical Therapy doing my rehabilitation. And getting stronger for the second knee replacement that I will get in late Spring... After 4 grueling sessions; I am walking, moving well, and have almost 100% function in my surgical knee.
I can't get over the comments from the PT and surgeon - About how my "normal" weight allowed me to do so well. My weight is still high. I know that. But I am comfortable where I am, and this is where I have been for a few years, and is my lowest adult weight ever. HECK. NORMAL WEIGHT ? No one is commenting on me being super obese, or needing to lose weight. Instead the focus is on strength and eating well, and getting stronger .
What a huge difference.

summerseeker reacted to BriarRose in Rice
I eat rice "backwards" ... Most dishes have the rice as the base of the dish. I put the vegetables, and Protein at the bottom or as the majority of my meal, and then sprinkle the rice on top .... I can add as much or as little as I desire, but this way, I see the rice .... and I have some, just not as the majority of my plate/meal. I do this in many different cuisines !

summerseeker reacted to ShooterInTheSix in Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
I had my RNY mid-September and while I'm in a weird headspace where I don't think I'm losing weight 'fast enough' compared with some of the stories I've read here (I know, don't compare, everyone is different; intellectually I get it, it's still something of a challenge sometimes...) I HAVE lost 55lbs.
More importantly, the jeans I was wearing pre-op now fit like I'm trying to look like a 20 year old rapper wannbe, hanging half way down my ass if I don't cinch down a belt (which I've had to punch several new holes in and currently wraps around to my side when I use it), and I'm regularly wearing jeans that haven't seen the light of day since I blew up my knees (three months apart, one after the other in 2008)

WHOOOO! I needed a "formal" dress for a Charity event. I walked in, saw a dress I liked, grabbed a size. Tried it on an BAM! DONE!!!! Never in a million years would this happen. Normally it would be 45 stores, 2 weeks of looking and basically finding something I hate but fits..
WHOOOOO HOOO
Also- I HIT MY FIRST "ORIGINAL" GOAL THIS WEEK!
This was what my surgeon and myself agreed on from my initial appointment and I am perfectly fine here.. but my "updated" goal is just there to be able to say I lost half of my original body weight!

summerseeker got a reaction from Arabesque in Stuck at weight 4.5 months after surgery and always starving
I think that you really need to contact your team. You need some real help here. Its not normal to feel permanently hungry after this surgery. Occasional head hunger is more usual. Do you feel a restriction ?
You really need to fill yourself with good quality food now. Has your team said you must keep carbs out of your diet ? I ask because you sound as if you eat Protein or carbs. Your body needs the protein to function well. Eat your protein first, then the vegetables and then you can eat the carbs. Try to eat better carbs like fruits, skin on potatoes, brown rice and Pasta and quality wholemeal or seeded bread.
You are more than likely eating 2000 plus calories a day because you are at a plateau now. The only way to reverse this is to reduce your calories and eat better. Find a calorie tracker you like and be honest with it.

For me, Miralax, but the last step before I go to a doctor is a tablespoon or two of olive oil. Yeah it has a lot calories for its size, but it seems to prevent an obstruction for me.

summerseeker reacted to Arabesque in Sick of Protein Shakes
Simple answer is no to the Peanut Butter. I didn’t like the shakes either after surgery. I would have just one a day (diluted to try to help with the flavour) & then had Soup (cream, bone broths, consumes) for the rest of the day. If you like milk you could make up your own shakes by adding a little Greek yoghurt & a little Protein Powder. Just keep it very thin. You could get some powdered flavours to add too like a peanut butter one.
Only a week to go to purées which is when I never touched another shake again.

summerseeker got a reaction from Tomo in Gastric sleeve pre op must haves
You need patience, Getting to grips with the major diet changes either pre op or for about 6 weeks post op, you need patience and perseverance. Neither are easy. We have never had to eat in this way before. Everything has rules to be obeyed. Nobody has the same rules as you.
You will need a lip balm and if you can get it Biotin dry mouth spray. I always have wet wipes in my bag and I did use these
Spare underwear
If you are having a long car journey after surgery, a pillow is great to put on your stomach as it stops the seat belt from squishing you.
I really regretted getting rid of my recliner chair as I had to sleep sitting up in bed for a month. I had nasty reflux.
Some people buy in Protein Drinks but do not buy too many of the same one because our tastes change after surgery.
I made broths and froze them.
You will be asleep or be walking in the hospital. You will need nothing for that.
