Win: I don't know what the term is but I keep buying size large clothes and when I get them, they're too damn big and fall off. What is that called when your mind hasn't caught up to the actual weight you have lost 😂

summerseeker reacted to Lilia_90 in Is weight loss surgery even a good idea for those who don't over eat?
It is annoying.
I can tell you that for 10+ years I worked out the same, ate the same and was always a fitness + health nut. But 5 years prior to WLS it literally all stopped working, I was doing NOTHING different, and nothing worked. I was always the one telling people off for not working hard enough, until I was stuck in the same vicious cycle that I learned to be empathetic and that obesity is a chronic disease. I am eating between 1700-2000 calories now and maintaining a 80+ pound weight loss, I ate strictly 1700 at my heaviest and worked out daily, and I was at a BMI of 33.
it's mind boggling, but WLS does restart your metabolism.

That sounds tough especially when you're already doing all the right things. I'm still pre-op but hearing your story reminds me just how complex this journey really is. Sometimes the body just hits a wall no matter how clean we eat or how much we move. Hoping things shift soon for you and wishing you the best with IVF too.

It might be worth getting in contact with your dietician again to review your current eating, activity, etc. to help devise a plan which will meet your current nutritional needs and support your weight loss. Things change in our lives, like changing to a less stressful & less active job, which can mean what worked for us before doesn’t now. Looks like you’ve made a good start in getting back on track (congrats on your weight loss so far) and you just might need little tweaks to refine. Remember stalls are part of our weight loss and that could be what’s happening now not that you’re doing something wrong.
All the best.

Good morning,
I had VSG surgery March 2022. I was 220 and my lowest was 135 to 140. Over two years I slipped up and started to go back to bad habits. Most recently it was due to work stress. I have left that job to start a new less stressful job. I was 190.1 2 weeks ago for my job physical which led me to realize how much I have regained. Since then I am now 181 by swimming 1 mile for 30 mins and elliptical 20 mins.
I feel like I am stalling now. I’m also having trouble with my macros and calories. I attached what a typical day can look like for me but sometimes I struggle eating it all and calories could be at 800 and macros lower as well.
my new job will be a desk job so I’m now wondering what should my macros and calories be at? Am I eating too much or too low?

Welcome and hello!
My journey started with calling the different weight loss centers in my area and seeing if they take my insurance. I researched the doctors, procedures, and programs. The introduction to the programs were all online. The GLP-1 medications were not available then, so there’s more information now. My weight loss took off when I started meeting with the dietitian. She recommended the book “Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies” and this site here was recommended in it. So, ask away, lurk, learn. Most of us are healthier and grateful for surgery and all the newer methods. I wish I had done it sooner!

So my update.....
On Friday afternoon I sent my CT scan imaging and report from the week before to the professor who is giving me my second opinion on whether I needed further surgery. Within two hours he rang me to say that it is not a case that the clip should come out because it could impact my quality of life or a reaction but that it MUST come out asap as the area around it is infected and I have what is called a superinfection. It appears that one of the leaks from two years ago has not healed, it was just being held together by the clip and if the clip is removed the leak is there!!
He wants to remove the clip and then put in a pigtail (coil tube thingy) into the hole so the stomach will heal around it and then the pigtail will either pass through in a few months or can be removed easily at a later date - this is what he did before to stop the other leak and it worked successfully. And just for clarification, his hospital are not the ones who fitted the clip, that was done by my original local hospital who did the sleeve surgery.
Anyway it is a special machine that has to be brought on site to do the procedure so I will travel there (Belgium) at the weekend and have the procedure this day next week.
I still don't feel great but the antibiotics are helping though I am struggling to eat (no interest) so have lost almost 3kg in the last two weeks.

Its a thing. I have never been as vigilant as I am now. I log my food and exercise every day. I weigh myself every day. Two pounds up and I deal with it.
Carbs still sit heavy on my stomach so I still don't eat them which is a bonus for me. I hope you find some way to stay thin too.

Hi,
I had gastric bypass 3yrs ago October (I'm now 39). My starting weight was 340 and I'm current 260 with my lowest being 245 (I float between 255-260). I lost all of my weight the first 9mos and then I went off plan because my fertility doctor wouldn't restart treatments until my weight stabilized. I had surgery so I could get pregnant (I had undergone 3yrs of fertility treatments before surgery). I've had 3yrs of fertility treatments since then, no luck. My new dr said I'd help if I lost another 50lbs before we do IVF again. I've been trying for months and cannot get below 255. I lowered my calories to 800 with 30min of exercise and literally didn't even lose an ounce. I eat clean, very little to no sugar, fruit, veggies, Beans, lean chicken breast, and no flour products or processed foods.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you gone back to your surgeon & team for assistance? The fertility treatments you have been undertaking may be contributing to your difficulties losing weight again even if you are currently not taking any. Worth exploring - hormones can certainly hinder weight loss. May be get a thorough blood test for everything including hormone levels and thyroid levels to see if anything is revealed. Also maybe discuss trying GLP-1s with your surgeon.
All the best.

Hello!
I'm not diabetic, but my mother was. She had bypass surgery in 2008 and she was able to reverse diabetes becaue of her surgery. It was only about 2022 or so when she needed diabetes medications again, but she had other health problems
It's definitely possible that this surgery will help.

Stumbled across this community while doing some late-night research, and thought I'd say hi. I'm a 41-year-old union electrician and I've been dealing with Type 2 diabetes for about 12 years now, diagnosed when I was 29. Took me a few years to really get serious about it, and my A1C even crept up to over 10% at one point. Now I'm managing it with Metformin and daily Lantus shots, and my A1C is usually around 7.3%. My job keeps me pretty active, but managing blood sugar with a demanding work schedule and irregular meal times is still my biggest challenge.
I don't know much about bariatric surgery, but I'm looking to learn more and see if it's something that could help me with my diabetes management. Glad to be here and looking forward to connecting with you all.

summerseeker reacted to EmilyFlowers in Anxious about weight cycling
I've been doing a lot of reading lately about post-bariatric surgery life, and something that's really started to concern me is weight cycling. I know I'm only 15 months out from my gastric bypass and have made great progress (73 lbs down, Yay! 😄), but I've been seeing some articles that have me a bit worried about maintaining this loss long-term.
I came across a study published on PMC, "Weight Gain After Bariatric Surgery: a Systematic Review" (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4232339/), which discussed how some bariatric patients experience weight regain. It really got me thinking about how crucial it is to not just lose the weight, but to keep it off. Then I found another article, "How to Avoid Weight Cycling and Maintain Your Weight Loss" (https://slimvive.com/avoid-weight-cycling-and-maintain-your-weight-loss/), which offered some practical advice on preventing regain. It's just a bit daunting to think about, especially when I'm still figuring out how to balance everything, getting enough Protein, managing my blood sugar, and those 1/4 cup portions😣. Has anyone else felt this concern about weight cycling after reading up on it? -

You are definitely not alone! I still meet with my dietitian every month. I had gotten down to around 163–165 lbs, but after my BA, my weight went up to 175 and no matter what I do, I can’t seem to get back below that. I’ve tried strict tracking, changing my macros, hitting 10k+ steps a day, lifting regularly… all of it. When I told my dietitian this, she said that this might be where my body is happiest. At this point, I think my body is just really happy here. I feel strong, my clothes fit great, my workouts feel solid, and honestly I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been.
Focusing less on the number and more on how I feel has helped me so much. There are so many other ways to measure progress besides the scale!

summerseeker reacted to kristieshannon in I really don't think they've cut away enough of my stomach!
Also, sometimes excess stomach acid can lead to that grumbly “hungry” feeling. Check with your team about an acid reducer. And do your best to follow their diet plan! They are the experts and give you the post-op diet rules for well-studied reasons.

summerseeker reacted to FifiLux in Two years since sleeve
So tomorrow is two years from when I had my sleeve surgery, though it is only just over one year since my last procedure due to all my post of complications, and a few weeks ago I turned 50.
Here is a picture of me at 40 and a picture at 50. My weight back in May 2015 was about 130kg (20st / 286lb), it went up and down in the years between to where I was 120kg before surgery and now I am between 63 & 65kg (10st/141lb) so I am now half the person I used to be.
40yrs vs 50yrs
The last two weeks I have had really bad abdominal pain on and off and when it showed no signs of improvement I went to the emergency department where my bariatric surgeon had some of his team waiting for me. After CT scan and blood tests it showed my abdominal area was very inflamed but no infection thankfully so they hooked me up to painkillers and sent me home with a prescription for more pain killers (tramadol) and muscle relaxers. Yesterday I had my follow up and the surgeon has said that following a review of my results it looks like the clip that they had to place when I had my leak is now causing a reaction so I have to continue on the pain meds plus add in antibiotics for a couple of weeks.
The surgeon has said the clip has to come out as it is a matter of quality of life for me going forward as he says the pain can come back any time in the future if left it. The choices he gave are that it can be done by open surgery to remove (which he says is his second choice) and his preference is to do a revision surgery to bypass. Given all the sleeve post op complications I told him that I didn’t want to go down a surgical route, especially back in the same hospital but he feels this is the best option though he did say I could of course get a second opinion. So I have done just that, I contacted one of the surgeons (a mentor of my bariatric surgeon) who I had to be transferred to when my leak would not heal (the one who had to ft the pigtail/tube in my stomach) and he has said from looking at my files he believes it can be removed without the need for surgery and can see me in two weeks time to review my case and check scans so fingers crossed he can do something endoscopic wise.
I am due to get my arm lift surgery end of October so if I had to have stomach surgery in the next few months I wouldn’t then be able to get my lift. Obviously that is not a reason to decline the surgery if it is the best and only option but it would be great to get everything resolved without stomach surgery and still be able to get my arm lift.
