  1. I had very little pain post op but my muscles did feel like I had done like 1000 sit ups or crunches. I was thankful I have an adjustable bed and I just slept with the head elevated. This just made it easier to get up and down. A bed wedge would have accomplished the same thing though if you don’t have or can’t get comfortable in a recliner. They have them at medical supply and Amazon.
  2. I didn’t have to use this one with my surgery but you can sign up for the free month of Walmart delivery if you need anything immediately post surgery.
  3. Tell your team you are struggling and ask if you can be cleared to take pills. Teams vary on this but many of us were swallowing pills in the hospital so it’s possible you will get cleared.
  4. If I were you I would seriously consider bariatric therapy. You can work out what’s right for you in terms of surgery or not at this time, get the tools to deal with your food pusher either way and they can help you to address this person when and if you decide to tell them you want surgery. You will most likely be required to see one to get an evaluation at some point during the process anyways and many people swear that they help them tremendously to deal with food issues that Some of us have.
  5. I had never heard of this but if it is the same as DS surgery it’s been around a while and seems to be a good surgery. It’s a little more drastic than the bypass or sleeve but it is said to produce more weight loss. If your doctor thinks it’s warranted I would consider it. The main thing I have heard that is really different is that you may need to take some extra vitamins post surgery. We all have to take them in the beginning and most people have to take some for life but DS usually have to take a few more. As long as you are someone who will comply with taking vitamins probably 3 or 4 times a day for life it should be an option. I would check out Hop Scotch’s suggestion though and see what others who have had the surgery have to offer.
  6. I admit I still haven’t tried anything deep fried so I am not sure about that but pretty much anything I makes at home before surgery I can tolorate after. The only thing I just don’t seem to enjoy the taste of afterwards is this southwest ranch seasoning packet I used to use to make chicken tacos. I used to love it and now it’s just blah. On the other hand I used to make myself eat fish once a week and now I actually enjoy it a little more. Still mild fish like mahi and snapper but it’s a taste change for me.
  7. I am able to eat fast without any issue and idk if it’s a blessing or a curse. I think it’s good that your body reminds you to eat slow so you can feel your full cues. I try to eat slow but I don’t get the painful reminders that I’m sure I would be more likely to do it for.
  8. I think the lowest I have ever heard of them doing the surgery is a 30 BMI and that’s usually if you have medical issues that make it necessary. I am not sure whether any doctor would do it for a BMI of 25.
  9. Is there a reason that you are interested in the lap band instead of sleeve, DS or bypass. As others have said many doctors don’t even do them anymore.
  10. Congratulations on your new date and good luck.
  11. I have only heard that mentioned like once or twice on here. I don’t think that is the standard at all. Your pre op paperwork would probably say it if it’s required but it couldn’t hurt to give a quick call just in case. The girls up front should know the answer.
  12. I actually never had any hair loss. Or at least not enough that I noticed.
  13. You should be fine just don’t do it again. And definitely DONT do it post op. The worst thing that can happen pre op is they have to cancel your surgery. Post op you can end up in hospital or worse. You can do this. Prove It to yourself from now till surgery so you know you can do it post op.
  14. I brought loose fitting pajama pants to wear under my gown. I just slept in them but if that’s not comfy you may want a robe to slip on when you walk. I also brought an extra long phone charging cord and was glad I did cause outlets are sparse.
  15. Not everyone gets to a “normal” BMI. According to my team it’s not uncommom to settle into a new weight that is slightly obese according to BMI.
  16. I haven’t searched for a therapist post surgery but I have bipolar disorder and I went through five or six therapists before I found one that I like. You need to feel comfortable with someone to share your most intimate thoughts. Don’t give up though, you will find them.
  17. I haven’t noticed a difference but have definitely heard that it happens. I am on medication that reduces mine though so maybe that why.
  18. That’s awesome. Glad to hear it. Just keep sipping and walking and remember you did still just have major surgery so you may feel tired. Just give into it and rest when your body tells you to and it should help you recover a little quicker since we heal while we sleep. I had very little pain as well but I was still wiped out. I took naps daily for a while post surgery.
  19. If you don’t get a response here there should be a thread just for people having surgery in august.
  20. I was on the pill so periods were still regular but they were longer and I had breakthrough bleeding for the first three months.
  21. Hopefully everything went well and you are in your room resting up. Let us know how you are doing as soon as you feel up to it.
  22. Oh good I’m glad you got some fluids to help you out. Idk why some people seem to struggle a little longer than others but I’m glad you are figuring out a couple things that you can eat and getting the help you need from your doctors (the fluids) while you need it. I hope the mashed potatoes worked out for you.
  23. Wow. That’s a lot sooner. Good for you.
  24. My process took almost exactly 6 months from my initial consult until my surgery date.
