Differences between diet plans
My plan is one that progresses very slowly. 2 weeks of liquids after surgery, 4 weeks of purees, 3-6 months of soft foods, then regular foods.

Help
What do you mean when you say you've messed up several times? I had surgery March 15th and have since been advanced to purees and am experiencing some hunger between meals. I do experience cravings sometimes, but I remind myself that I recently ate and that I will soon be eating again. It also helps to get your fluids in. If I get tired of water, I drink Propel or crystal light so I get some flavor. You can have sugar free popsicles to munch on as well. I know it's really tough, but you can do it! If you've eaten something you shouldn't have, don't dwell on it but move forward with a new, positive mindset.

Feeling down
Thank you so much @ruthpets!! It’s just reassuring to hear what other people’s experiences are like. The 30 lbs I’ve lost also includes my pre surgery loss, I’ve lost about 15 since surgery.

Feeling down
I’ve been on my puréed stage for a week and a half now and I’m feeling really discouraged. I am constantly hungry. I had 2 tbsp of cream of wheat for Breakfast made with 1/2 c Fairlife skim milk.... was hungry about an hour later. So, I had a smoothie I made (1 c. Fairlife, 1/2 container greek yogurt, 2 tbsp blueberries, 2 tbsp raspberries, 1/4 banana, 1 scoop genepro). 11 am rolled around... I was hungry again! I waited until lunch(12:00 for me) and had 1/4 c ham salad and 3 tbsp cottage cheese. At 3 pm I was hungry again! I am so stinking frustrated. Am I doing something wrong? What is going on? I feel like I'm overeating and ruining my new stomach!

Souper cubes
@ms.sss it appears silicone molds can be used up to 450 degrees! Woo hoo!

Souper cubes
Hmmm I’m not sure, I will do some checking!

Souper cubes
Hi everyone! I was watching a YouTuber who had VSG before I had my surgery. Her channel is My Level 10 Life if you’d like to check it out - she has a lot of great information on the surgery and life after. Anyway, she had recommended souper cubes, so I invested in some and I love them. You can bake in them or freeze things in them, and they are portion controlled. However, they are a bit pricey. So, yesterday I was at a Marshall’s and came across some silicone ice cube trays with a lid for $3.99. They are the perfect portion for me right now and are a great alternative to souper cubes if you don’t want to dish out $30+. The only thing with these ones is that I can’t bake in them, but oh well.

Will I ever feel thirst again
I am 3 weeks post op and have experienced thirst. In fact, I’ve had to stop myself from chugging water like I used to. I have noticed that some days water doesn’t go down very well but I can drink tons of crystal light and vice versa. Maybe it’s a flavor thing?

Restaurant Card
That is pretty cool! My boyfriend and I have decided that we will order one meal for both of us when I am able to eat out again.

How much are you eating?
Oh wow @ms.sss our stats are super similar! I really appreciate both your input. I had 1/2 a scrambled egg for breakfast today with milk and a pinch of melted cheese. That really filled me up. When I eat refried beans or ricotta bake, I can eat about 1/4 cup without any problems. I just don't want to do things I shouldn't be and stretch my stomach back out. ? I'm not even sure if that can happen, but it is a real fear of mine.

How much are you eating?
I was advanced to pureed foods this week and am about 2 1/2 weeks post op. Everything is going well; I am eating slow enough without pain/getting sick and I've been super thirsty and getting a good amount of liquid in. However, when I met with my dietician, she told me that I should only be eating 2 tablespoons of food per meal and drinking protein drinks in-between meals. How much were you guys eating this early out? I'm struggling to get protein in with liquids and it doesn't help if I can only eat 2 tablespoons of pureed proteins. I guess I just feel like 2 tablespoons is a tiny amount, but I'm not sure what I was expecting.

Starting out on Soft Food Diet
I don’t see why you couldn’t have lunch meat... if you’re still on purées you’d still have to purée it.

Starting out on Soft Food Diet
Ugh @bufbills that doesn’t sound bad at all! I’m jealous.

The Dr. Nowzaradan Drinking Game
My boyfriend was shocked when I told him what I weighed to qualify for WLS. He said, "really? I thought you'd be at least 260." So, there definitely is a sort of stigma regarding how much people must weigh for surgery...

Starting out on Soft Food Diet
How long did everyone's pureed and soft food diets last? I thought mine was 2 weeks on pureed and 2 weeks on soft foods, but I was soooo wrong! I have 4 weeks on pureed and 3-6 months on soft foods!!!!!! ?

Post-Op Diet...
You know.... I felt the same way. Then my dietician advanced me to purees. Goodness, I was so excited. But eating is more like a chore now and is no longer pleasurable. I have to eat super slowly and carefully to make sure I don't eat too fast or take too big of bites. I'm not trying to scare you, I just want you to be aware that there are struggles on the next stages, too. Good luck!

Gallbladder
It is different for everyone. I was given no dietary restrictions nor have I struggled with any foods since my gallbladder removal. I knew someone who would go running to the bathroom after eating lettuce after theirs was out. My doctor said some people have no complications with food whatsoever while others do. So, it is kind of like trial and error. Maybe try a little bit if you are afraid and see what happens.

Low BMI Rate of Weight Loss?
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I had the gastric sleeve on 3/15/21 and also started with a "lower" BMI (40). On the day of my surgery, I weighed 217.2 lbs and as of yesterday, I was 204.4 lbs. I had the same concerns you are having with not losing weight, but it seems to be melting off. I also had a considerably healthy lifestyle before surgery - I just overate on foods that weren't terrible for me. I also struggle with hypothyroidism which has made it hard to lose and keep weight off for the majority of my life. I can't speak long term as I am only 2 weeks post op, but I hope this helps!

Rough morning
Hang in there. Everyone on my team has told me that the first few days are the toughest after surgery. Maybe you can try to develop some new routines that will provide some normalcy. It will get better!

Updating my Personal Info / Weight, etc.
No, you do not need to pay for it. I have only gotten it to work when I am logged in to my computer. When I use my computer, in the upper part where the black bar is with your name and profile picture, click the down arrow. Then click 'my surgery' and it will allow you to update the details of your surgery once you are on that page. If you want to add weight, etc. click on 'progress' off to the left. I hope this helps.

Pre surgery tests
I had a urine test. They checked for blood in my urine and said they do a urine test on all their patients just in case there is an infection they want to be able to treat it before surgery. However, I’m sure every clinic is different.

How Much Time Between Bites
I had the same feeling in my sternum while drinking. My surgeon said I was taking too big of drinks, drinking too quickly, or both. Hope that helps.

What does restriction feel like?
I assume my eating will be similar to yours when I am fully recovered, Jaelzion. I tend to get hungry mid-morning and in the afternoon (3-4 pm ish). A string cheese, serving of fruit, or serving of beef jerky are all I need, though.
