Lynda486 reacted to Brent701 in 10 Month Update - Weight loss chart included
Now 10 months post op and down 109lbs from my peak. Calories are edging higher now in the 1200-1600 range. With respect to meals my brain feels totally retrained on how much to eat. My challenges are sugar and slider food which is extremely calorie dense but not offering the same restriction. Below is my weekly chart to give everyone a sense of what the rate of loss looks like. Still not exercising as much as I should which is the last thing hindering my progress. I am quite good at making excuses not to do actual exercise and much prefer things activity based.

Base level protein should be calculated 0.36 grams of protein per 1 lb of body weight to support your body weight 58-60 is a good base goal. I understand they want to compensate somewhat for the bypass but 120-140 extremely excessive and your body won’t use protein that it doesn’t need. It just stores it as fat. Whatever you are doing is working great and congrats on 2 years!

I will be 2 years out on Apri 28. My program says that I should have 120-140 grams of Protein a day. That said I am lucky to get 50-70 grams of protein a day. Very lucky if I get 100 grams so most days I never get carbs as I have no room in my digestive track for carbs.

The restricted calorie intake is only for the first couple of months until your stomach has healed, and you are eventually able to eat a normal diet, just in smaller amounts of food “per sitting”. However just because your stomach is much smaller, you can still pack a hefty number of calories by the end of the day and eventually GAIN weight post-op. You must think of the surgery as a tool and not a “cure all” answer to lifelong weight management. Please review the information in the link below, I am sure the info will help answer many of the “what do I / can I eat” questions, it did for me.

    Hi guys

    I’m Celebrating a new weight bracket today!⁣⁣
    ⁣⁣
I never really set myself a goal as such but I always said around 9-10 stone (126 - 140lbs)⁣⁣
    & today I weighed 10 stone 10lbs! (150lbs) ⁣⁣
    ⁣⁣
So close to those goals now! However, I won’t be weighing myself again until 1st April 2020! ⁣⁣I decided to only get the scales out once a month from now on. I was starting to get really obsessed and panicky about the numbers on the scale all of the time so I thought it’s best for my mental health to see them only once a month.

Plus, weight fluctuates so weighing daily is just silly at this point in my journey really!

Yesterday the skirt was a NSV for me. Been waiting to wear one of these since 2013 lol!

Hey guys hope all is well.
Now I've just hit the 6 months mark since I started my weight loss journey.
It's been an amazing ride that's for sure.
I started my highest weight of 322lbs.
    Today I'm 178lbs; that's a 154lbs GONE in 6 months!
Surgery weight was 257lbs so I'm 4 months post surgery as well; 79lbs since surgery day
I never thought I would even get to this weight and now I feel great.
bought some new clothes and noticed some girls actually taking notice of me these days it's a great feeling!!
I have been eating more and trying out different foods lately and I can tolerate more these days; actually went out for lunch the other day for the first time since surgery 😀
BMI is now 24 so I'm officially healthy!!!
I'm not quite as strict as I was the first months so I am enjoying trying out new foods to see what I can tolerate as I need to start thinking long term and maintenance!
Thank you to everyone on this site for your support and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have if you're thinking about the RNY bypass surgery.
    Take care.
    MIKEY

I had some M & M's in a serving of trail mix, and I also had half a Little Debbie snack cake with no issue. Only it was so sweet it made my eyes Water and my back teeth hurt. It also triggered me, so lesson learned, stay away from sugar! Now, when I eat fatty foods my insides rumble like a Saturday night fight, the worst was when I had some full fat dressing with a salad!

Lynda486 reacted to momof3_angels in Anyone do either a thru-hike or "pilgrimage" after surgery?
Just curious, have any of you done a thru-hike or pilgrimage after bariatric surgery? In particular, has anyone done the Camino de Santiago after bariatric surgery? How was it? How did you handle eating? Did you gain/lose/maintain weight? Insights you can share?
I had surgery Sept 4th. I am losing weight at a nice pace. I have just reached a BMI under 30. I am walking 6 miles a day now (still easy walking, but at a brisk pace). I am just beginning to do Yoga/Pilates again (when I can get my daughter to dance in time for me to get to class). And I have just booked a flight to Paris/back from Barcelona... but in between I am planning on doing the Camino de Santiago (French Way) from St Jean Pied de Port! I am super excited. I am planning to up my fitness routine steadily until I leave. I am already buying any gear I don't have and trying to figure out how to keep weight down in my backpack. Buying smaller clothes will sure help that! Hopefully I am a Medium by then if not smaller. Anyhow, any tips on what you did to get you through a thru-hike?
This is my first thru-hike. I have always wanted to do one, but I am using this as more motivation to keep going on my weight loss and getting fit. I selected this one because I don't have to carry my tent and all my food for many days at a time, and I SHOULD have an actual bed to sleep in every night. Anyhow, excitied, nervous, and really not sure how I will be handling food by then. I am doing better with hydrating now. I am eating small meals without problems. I have never gotten sick from anything I ate or overeating.

Did my first triathlon last month, doing a 50 mile bike race next month, and planning a rim-to-rim hike (in one day) of the Grand Canyon next year! This new like is awesome beyond words!

I had RNY 2 days ago. That 1st night after surgery was awful but it's getting better now. I've been walking around but the gas pains are still here. I feel more comfortable sitting up in recliner than laying down. I'm also having a hard time getting my fluids in. I'm really gonna push it today bcuz I don't want to have to stay I'm here any longer. Any 2/25/20 surgery twins?

So, almost a year out from my surgery and down about 130 lbs from surgery day (197 lbs overall), I find myself eating what I consider relatively normal now. I mean yes, there's still things that I can't eat at all, and I still eat a lot less overall than I did before. I've still found that there are things that I can handle now that in theory, I shouldn't be able to.

An example? Fun size M&Ms. I can handle a pack of these with some Protein and not have any issues. One pack of fun size M&Ms is less than 10 grams of sugar. I can also handle grapes, sushi, and a single slice of pizza. Anything more is pushing it.

My weight fluctuates day to day, but it's still on a downward trend and I'm getting good walking in with the occasional swim as exercise.

I have been putting Bulletproof collagen powder in my coffee every day for about 6 months. I was skeptical about it helping my dry, flaky. crepey old lady skin but it has really helped a great deal. I still use Cetaphil daily but I see a huge difference in the appearance and feel of my skin. Best price I have found is at Sams.

Follow your plan, Protein first, Water and then the rest will follow. My nut also told me to not worry about calories, as long as you get your protein and water in you will be fine! Don't worry about what anyone else is doing or not doing. You've got this!
