Jason Fung: "The Obesity Code" and the "Complete Guide to Fasting."
Chris Crowley and Henry Lodge: "Younger Next Year."
Gary Taubes: "The Case Against Sugar."
You cannot eat sugar or refined carbs. They jack up your insulin and high insulin = fat. Period. Insulin prevents the utilization of fat stores. If you get past 3 days without sugar you will not have severe cravings, but just 1 little bite will start the cravings all over again. This is just a commitment you have to make if you want to keep the weight off. Just remember: Sugar = insulin = fat.
Intermittent Fasting has proven to be a very powerful tool for me. I fast 16 hours a day and eat my calories within an 8 hour window. This reduces insulin and accelerates fat breakdown. I recently added Alternate Day caloric restriction. 500 cal on one day and full calories on next day. I am doing this every day for now, but this is often done as a 5:2 - 5 "normal days and 2 restricted days) per week. This tricks the metabolism so it doesn't start slowing down. Using IF tools is tremendously empowering and gives you a lot of control of how your body is responding to food. I strongly recommend "The Obesity Code" as your number 1 read. It will all start making a lot of sense and once you understand the physiology, it is very motivating.
Best wishes on this leg of your journey. You can reverse this, you really can. You just need a couple of new tools.

I only count my weight once a week on the same day. Continuously stepping on the scale may drive you crazy. I stepped on it one day between my regular weigh day and there was a 5lb difference. By the time it got to the actual day there was loss.

I have not had one in months, but they were a suggestion made to me by my nutritionist if I did not feel like cooking. But be mindful about the sodium and car intake.

Only if it'll be combined with a bot creating answers to the following:
"I have lost only 4.8 lbs after 10 days! This surgery is not working!!!!!"
"Does that really mean that weight loss stops after 18 months???"
"My starting weight was 301 lbs - according to this table I'm supposed to lose much faster! Clearly I'm doomed!!!"

My husband and I had VSG on 7/9 along with a hiatal hernia repair for me. We had our 1 month post op weigh in Friday. Before we had this surgery we made a pact that if we were spending all the money to do this we were not going to do the minimum we were DOING IT “like a boss”. Following the plan, working the program, working our asses off in the gym, and leaning on each other for support when we need it.

The first couple weeks of surgery are HARD, mentally more so than physically. But physically sometimes it sucks too, you will have side pain sometimes, you’ll be nauseated sometimes you’ll throw up sometimes. But it’s all so worth it. Mentally your mind is racing what have I done to myself? This liquid diet sucks! Since when are there so many food commercials? You sometimes have mental cravings so strong that make you feel so desperate you might even cry. And in that low dark place you will long for the comfort of food, but food cannot comfort you anymore. It’s almost like a grieving process and it SUCKS but it gets better. Eventually if you keep saying NO ! Those cravings fade away. I’m not saying I don’t have any cravings anymore but they are few and far between and easily dismissible. I also consider myself “lucky” to have a picky pouch, if I eat a bite of something something that’s even the least bit fatty or greasy it’s coming back and I’m cool with that because it definitely makes me have zero interest in those types of things. Me, my eggs, deli turkey, turkey pepperoni, shredded chicken, string cheese, and PB 2 have become pretty good pals. For the first time in my life I eat to live instead of living to eat.

We went through every step of this together from the consultations to the pre-op requirements to surgery and continue to fight this DAILY battle as a team. This surgery has already changed our life in so many ways and i have no doubt that it will continue to have such a positive impact. This surgery has changed the two of us, it has changed our marriage, our relationships with others and our lives as a whole. It’s been a wild fast ride. Neither of us have one ounce of regret this is absolutely the best decision we’ve ever made. We push each other every day and I can’t imagine having gone through this alone without that support.

    Surgery Day 7/9/19 - 340 & 290 lbs
    Friday 8/9/19 - 272 & 241 lbs
Total loss since surgery- 68 & 49 lbs
    Loss as a couple - 117lbs

It is hard to help people see the light and change their ways!
You shouldn't have to deal with that kind of negativity
Obviously the op was talking about unhealthy habits and junk food etc

Does anyone else find that if they don’t exercise the weight does not drop? Maybe it’s my metabolism but I am a very slow loser and I have noticed that if I do not incorporate some type of exercise into my routine, I barely lose anything regardless of how healthy I eat. I realize diet and exercise work together, I just think it’s interesting how the body works.

That is excellent! I keep reading posts where we have been conditioned by what we should be losing based on what we see on television as well as comparing ourselves to others. It has been almost 3 months for me and I am down 40lbs. I had to accept that my body and metabolism is specific to me. Not to mention, when was the least time I lost 40lbs in 3 months....that would be never. Try to stay focused on the fact that you are definitely losing and getting healthier every day. I wish you the best. 👍🏽

I absolutely agree with fluffy so many people are so fragile and can't take constructive criticism. They were told by their families for years They were healthy and look where it got them.
Maybe if someone opened your eyes sooner you wouldn't be in this predicament.
Why are people so fragile these days and can't take a little hard truth.
We're actually trying to help people see What's wrong and then make the changes.
Surgery is a privilege and needs to be taken care of. You should be ready for it.

Bullying is the incorrect word. I'm totally aggravated by the sheer number of posts crying about or lamenting the changes from this surgery and their present food situation. We all have had this amazing opportunity to change our life. And yet we're talking about nonsense. We all had to travel down and through this path. And it is HARD. It sucks. But there is beauty beyond and there is MUCH to gain by just going with the flow and dying to your baser instincts and relations with food.
My motivation in answering is not to invalidate the posters. It's to abruptly break where their brain is going. It's a wake up shout. And psychologists often say you need to have an abrupt noise or action to break a chain/cycle of downward motion.

I don’t know what qualifies as an older sleever, however I am 58 and 1 pound shy of my goal weight 11 months later. I’ve had to work harder and push myself to get here. I didn’t focus on cardio and strength training until I was about 5-6 months in. I was walking daily prior to that. My weight loss really slowed down so I knew I had to rev up my metabolism. Much to my dismay it worked...
I’ve come to terms with Im going to have to exercise and eat right the rest of my life. I’m ok with that, I feel 100% better.
I LOVE iced coffee, here is what I do. I buy Starbucks cold brew black at the grocery store. It comes in a 48 oz jar. I put it over ice with sugar free vanilla coffee creamer (35 calories) or add a flavored Protein Shake and it tastes great for a fraction of the calories. I have this every single morning without fail.
    Keep going, you’ve got this.
