Colorado Cowgirl reacted to GradyCat in What do you eat in a day 6 months post op?
I was getting around 800 calories a day but had stalled, so I upped it to 1000 and started losing weight again. I focus on high Protein, little to no carbs.

I had my first stall at 3 weeks. Very normal. Try not to weigh every day. It'll frustrate you and so long as you stick to the plan you will drop the weight

So 2 years ago right now they were rolling me into surgery. My first ever time being put under and first ever overnight in a hospital since birth.
Would i do it again? yes in a heart beat
do i have Any regrets? No
I believe i would be dead right now if not for this surgery. All of my health markers were headed down and the rate of decline was increasing.
I owe Paula Duclo, Physician Assistant, my life for the day she walked in and asked if i would consider weight loss surgery. That started a nine month journey that she helped me navigate.
Did the first weeks suck? Yes. liquid diets and mushy soft food diets are not fun or interesting but those weeks don't last and you get better every single day.
3 weeks in and i was cleared to work out Lightly, as if i could have done any more.
I am surprised i went back after that first day. It was humiliating. I actually couldn't fit between some of the machines.
but i did, in the middle of the night 11 pm to 1 am when the place was empty and i worked up from 3 days a week to 6 days a week
as the weight came off and i was less conscientious of my shear bulk i started going at a more normal 6 am
I found this place and it helped to see others working thru the same journey in there own way.
It is very much your journey and it will not match up with anyone else. We can support each other and be there when we need to cry or vent but everything else is on you(me).
The decisions we make each day going forward. The new ways to approach food and the food choices we make will decide the level of success you can achieve and Maintain.
Maintenance. That's the magic word for me now.
Can i do this forever. Did i learn the needed new habits and new ways to approach food.
We will find out over the next 3-5 years.
For all of you new to this - be strong - you have made a great decision and a new lease on your life is in front of you.
p.s - you don't get to pick where you lose the fat from and when your bottom looks like 2 deflated balloons and sitting is painful you just grin and deal with it.
its still better than that day when i couldn't fit between the machines at the gym.
Everyone have a great weekend - I am smoking ribs for my Birthday - dry rub only- no sugar

Are you eating enough Protein? Protein will help with the hunger. You have lost alot of weight in one month. Sometimes people feel uncomfortable discussing weight up or down. That has been my experience.

Colorado Cowgirl reacted to catwoman7 in Excess skin
loose skin is a very individual thing depending on so many factors. Some people have a lot of it, others don't. It's hard to tell how yours is going to be. Like the above poster said, your age is a big advantage, but you're probably going to have at least some with a 100 lb loss.
For most of us, though, it's pretty easy to hide. I knew mine was there, of course, as did my husband and doctor, but no one else did. Most of mine was in my abdomen, so I just tucked the skin into my jeans or leggings and wore slightly oversized, longish tops to cover it up. Ta da! Gone. I did finally get sick of looking at it, though, and had it removed, but I highly doubt anyone who sees me can tell a difference. Naked - yes - but with clothes on - no.
I just want to add that a majority of pre-ops and early post-ops seem to be really obsessed with loose skin. I've worked with pre-op groups for the past two years and that question comes up EVERY TIME. I would also say that after losing all that weight, many of us (me too!) wonder why we wasted even one brain cell worrying about it. Losing a ton of the excess weight MAJORLY offsets the loose skin thing. I would take my loose skin any day over weighing 300+ lbs again. ANY DAY!!!!
btw - here is a picture of me BEFORE I had plastic surgery. I lost over 200 lbs. See all that loose skin? I don't, either...

    Hello, hello!

Today is Saturday, only 2 days away from my surgery on Monday. I'm so excited! I have more energy than ever and I'm acting like a little kid at a carnival. Surgery seems to be the only thing I can talk about any more, and I'm beyond excited for this!
I've had people asking if I'm scared, and I don't think I ever answer the way they want me to. If anyone asks me how I feel going into this, I tell them I've been dreaming of this surgery for years and am not in the least bit scared. This may be my first surgery, but that doesn't frighten me.
I wanted to post on here because I wanted to share my happiness and I knew this would be a safe place to talk about this!

Colorado Cowgirl reacted to Mickeygmg in Nervous surgery Monday
My nerves didn't set off until we were in the car. On our way, I told my husband, "If we hit traffic for any reason, we are going out to a nice Breakfast instead ". It was smooth sailing the whole way. Then in the elevator in the parking garage, the back wall was glass, looking out over a court yard. There was a huge flag flying the said, "Let's get Healthy together." I almost cried. I was searching for a negative sign all morning and the universe threw a positive sign at me.
Nerve are normal, I'd be more afraid if a person didnt get a little nervous before a surgery.
Relax, take a deep breath and remind yourself why you are doing this. And. Let's get healthy together. 😊
The best of luck, and health.

I found it difficult to swallow regular Vitamins for the first month because of the inflammation in my stomach even if I split them in half. I ended up getting the soft chews and chewables. gummies were a no no with my surgeon too.

Congratulations on your progress so far. I like your attitude. I had no issues either and I'm 9 months out. I just did what I was told to do and didn't' worry if I had an occasional day where I may have been a little low on Protein or Fluid. I figured if I was doing my best that's all I could ask. I didn't compare my weightloss to anyone else. I thought I would reach my doctor's goal in 6 months but I didn't. It took me 8 1/2. No big deal, time is going to pass anyway and it will happen when it happens! I stay away from the stuff that got me to the bariatric service in the first place! Sugar and junk food. After a while it becomes easy to say, "Yes, that looks delicious, but no, I don't want 'just a taste'."

My surgeon told me to focus on liquid over Protein that early out. Three months out there are days I don't hit the protein and Fluid minimums. I do the best I can.

And another baddie you didn't state but true also. BLINDNESS, when my diabetic Daddy died along with the other less lovely qualities he would have been Legally Blind within a few months. Wish he could has sought WLS , I would still have him and my also diabetic Mama instead of just memories. YOU CANT HUG MEMORIES like you can a Real Person. But at the time, neither one was offered the options, do wish they were both here to watch their only baby try to be successful , I'm now 73, but even if things still are not all perfect n I AM SO MUCH BETTER THAN before surgery, and 10 months pist- surgery I WILL BE A SUCCESS!
Sorry, I am sniffling a little, just wish I could share this experience with them instead of having pictures to hold clise!
