Are you sure you're ready for this major decision?
I knew I was, I had hit rock bottom, I surrendered to the fact that I had no self control to do it on my own. My health was starting to fail me and in desperation I looked into WLS. I am so glad that I did, I had never thought it was for me in the past, I always thought that I should do it on my own. This surgery changes you, and the way you think about food. At least it did for me. I have this new baby tummy and I need to protect it. It was a gift and I am treating it as such. Good luck on your decision, and if you feel you can do it on your own you should try to do so first in my opinion. I think if WLS is right for you, you will know it deep inside, and it will be one of the most important things in your life.

I got the sleeve December 28th.
Successful pre-op week long liquid diet and day before Clear Liquids. 10.5 lb loss
Successful surgery, anesthesia hit a bit hard and I didn’t end up fully waking up until middle of the night surgery night. Began walking, could hardly sip, all normal stuff. I could immediately pick myself up and didn’t require assistance in sitting up or walking around, was just extremely tired.
Three days post op I began feeling what I assumed were the dreaded gas pains dead center of my abdomen. I called my doctors office, scoured the forums for advice, nothing helped. I tried the milk of magnesia assuming I was backed up, not the case. Tried gasx bc the pain latest 3 days non stop. Couldn’t hardly move, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t walk, couldn’t sit, lay, anything.
So! Fast forward to Thursday (6 days post op) and I’m balling on the phone with my doctors office pleading there’s no way this is gas. So they bump my post op appointment to the next morning if I can wait. If not, they say don’t wait to go to the ER.
Next morning on Friday my mother rushes me to the office, we barely get through the door and they’re sending us to the ER next door.
After many tests, hours of different pain meds that didn’t work...a ct scan shows a prominent Portal vein thrombosis. A massive and extremely painful blood clot in my chest bc of the surgery.
Little pre surgery info, I’m extremely healthy. I’ve never had heart burn, acid reflux, diabetes, heart problems, any issues health wise.
I’ve now been in the hospital for over a week dealing with the excruciating pain, blood thinners, 6 days of NO food OR Water, not even ice chips. Talk about torture.
So, just a heads up...it’s not always gas pain. This may be super rare, which is what I’ve been told, but still...it sounds like gas pains...it still may not be. If your pain is at a 10 go to the dang hospital.

    Alex ....
Honest question here. If you have such concerns about Premier Protein, why do you still sell GENEPRO. The Genepro issues are much more serious, and the company that makes Genepro has behaved seriously unethically, IMO.
I also don't think the Premier Protein issues are so terrible. 26-29 g of protein vs. 30 g. That is a 3-13% discrepancy. Although not ideal, not the worst either (i.e. Genepro).
And casein & milk protein concentrate vs. whey protein isolate. Are there any studies saying whey protein is superior? Not all of us have bypasses. Even with bypasses, just because casein is absorbed more slowly, does it mean it is absorbed less completely?

You will be okay. People really beat each other up on this forum. You obviously know this wasn't on the plan. We are not going to be perfect 100% of the time. The best mentality to have is, "okay, I screwed up, but I can get right back on track". You got this!

Has anybody tried Daily Burn for their fitness routines? I've done a few workouts with them and really like it, but was curious if other people have any input on whether they feel like it was a good workout program?

Know yourself. If you only have 1 or 2 on special occasions, you'll probably be fine. Me, on the other hand, I don't do moderation. I'm either all in or all out. I was a wine person before surgery 4+ years ago & stayed that way after. I lost 108 pounds & then regained 40 of it because I was drinking 1 to 2 bottles of wine a night every night. The horror stories you've read about are true for some people like me. I'm proud to say it's been almost 2 years since I had a drink & the weight is slowly starting to come off again. If I could change 1 thing post-op, it would be never starting to drink again. But that's me. Good luck, whatever you choose!

Weight regain can happen with any type of surgery. Behavior change and the choices you make will be a factor in your outcome. There are many sleevers that have kept the weight off long term.

I'm on the clear liquid phase and I can't stomach my Protein powders, but I learned a way to consume it. Vital Proteins has a flavorless collagen peptides that I add to a lipton chicken noodle Soup broth and I've been able to consume my 60 grs that way. It dissolves lightly and doesn't change the consistency of the liquid.

    Hi!
The gastric bypass has been around as strictly a reflux surgery for many, many years before they realized that it aided in weightloss also. It started out as a reflux surgery. And while u must be heavier than 150 lbs to receive it for weightloss reasons, they will do it for reflux for a lesser weight. I voiced concern that I may lose too much and my dr told me that our bodies are smart and they tended to lose until they're at a healthy weight, then level out. I may get to a little less than my goal, fairly quickly, but my body would level out and stay healthy. It's super rare to become anorexic. Even knowing that its rare, of course I'm still concerned. And when I dont have reflux for 4 or 5 nites, I rethink my surgery decision. Then BAM - its back and I'm up for 3 hrs coughing and vomiting up stomach acid, feeling like Im having aheart attack, and will lose my voice the next day. And I sleep sitting up in an adjustable bed. I've tried everything conservative over an almost 5 yrs time period and it just gets worse. If I dont have the surgery (and while there is a reflux surgery, called the Fundoplication, I don't have enuf stomach left for it to be done), more damage will be done to my esophagus and I risk cancer and acid eating holes.
My dr has gone over all the risks involved and the risks of doing nothing surpass the risks of the revision. I can figure something out to do with my back pain while I'm unable to take pills post op. I guess I can mix the Kratom powder with some Protein Shake, or switch to CBD oil during this time. I'm curious at how differently my body absorbs medication differently also with the bypass. Whether I will need less pain meds or what.
Anyway, just wanted to let u know that its a safe surgery when weighing 150 lbs (I now weigh 154). The bypass started as a reflux surgery many, many years ago and they discovered that people were losing huge amounts of weight with it so it was tweaked and became the weightloss surgery we know now. And Im hoping Im not 1 of the rare people that cant stop losing....

    Hey KimTriesRNY!

I know the dangers. There's less of it than aspirin. It's been in use since before Jesus and studied formally for about 70 yrs. Anyway, I don't want a back and forth thing going so I'll stop there. And my question wasn't 'should I take this', it was HOW do I take it, when unable to swallow pills or the choc milk u can mix it in.
Thanxs for ur concern, tho. Oh, and u can overdose on aspirin, as every other drug. Since they've been keeping stats on Kratom, it's never once killed anybody and the only overdoses r minimal (make u nauseous, vomit, sleep an extra couple hours, etc) but that's really rare. I did my homework before I started taking it a year ago. Stopped taking Oxycodone a year ago. Thats much more dangerous. Anyway, know that I appreciate ur ur words of wisdom.

I started my period the day of my surgery. So the entire time I was in the hospital I was bleeding really heavily, the pain was unbearable even with medicine. I couldn't do any walking because I would almost pass out every time I tried to stand up. I could hardly make it to the commode to go to the bathroom. I couldn't wipe myself. I bled everywhere. It's been 11 days and I am doing better, but there was a point there at the beginning that I didnt know how I was going to get through it.

I need a GI clearance to have my surgery and I made an appointment with him back in October and told them very specifically why I needed to see him. I have been back and forth with them telling all the people I have seen in his office why I was seeing him when they asked and none of the ever mentioned that he doesn't do clearances for surgeries. I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy done a few weeks ago and on Wednesday I went in and was told "I don't give clearances I just do the procedure. Talk to your family Dr." My final weigh in is in less than two weeks and now I have to find another GI doctor and hope that they are taking new patients. So any hope of having my surgery any time soon is in the toilet.

Guys... I know this sounds really gross but I am seriously struggling to use the bathroom (number 2)...I am 6 weeks post OP and I go maybe every 4 or 5 days and it is these massive boulders that I cry to get out... literally cry. I know it's most likely the Protein and the Vitamins. I need help. I dont want to take laxatives because they honestly do nothing for the impacted stool already stuck in my bowels. How on EARTH do you stay regulated? This is the worst pain I have ever had. Any advice, foods you eat to go, regiments, would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you thank you thank you.
