I've been using gas drops (for infants) which has helped relieve a lot of my gas problems. You can find it near the tums/Miralax.

@Elsy everything went well. I will be discharged tomorrow. Could've left today, but I asked to stay til tomorrow... I am enjoying the treatment and iv meds[emoji1] I'm very sore at one invcision & my tummy is kinda swollen. Bending and lifting is not much of an option. Overall, I'm grateful for a successful pro edure. Looking forward to an even better recovery... Especially concerning this gas[emoji30]

Hello 5th Buddies. I had my bypass on the 5th and things have been so surprisingly great. Got discharged immediately the next morning. Getting in the Water and Protein. Doing homemade broths and tolerating them. I have my first play op appointment tomorrow. Not even in pain which I am surprised by that. I have more knee pains than surgery pains from walking lol. Stay pumped everyone. The honeymoon is in full effect and let’s make the most out of it. I am sure they’re tougher days ahead but enjoy the ride.

I’m expecting this question from my MIL. I’m going to ask her why she is asking and why she thinks discussing my weight (gain or loss) is any of her business. If she has the nerve to continue then I will tell her that even though it’s absolutely non of her business, yes I did. And I’m leaving it at that. I say it’s ok to be rude to anyone asking you just to be nosy.

Hi Elsy, I'm scheduled for next Tuesday and I'm going through the same thing! I keep beating myself up about it. I keep thinking, "Why don't I have the will power or self control to do this on my own." I have to remind myself why I considered it. I have to be honest with myself and remind myself that I DON'T have to have surgery. But! It's a good chance I will continue to struggle with losing weight. This is a tool that will help me initially, but I still have to do the work. This isn't the "easy" way out. This is hard and scary but it will be worth it. I read all of everyone's progress and wonder what my progress will be (6 months, a year, 2 years from now) and it gives me hope. It doesn't take away the anxiety, but I am going to trust God, praying for a great recovery, and have hope for myself.

My grocery bill has gone way down. Plus, I basically never eat out anymore, and when I do it is in tiny portions.
Some examples of what I buy:
Protein Shakes are typically $2/2.5 each. Fairlife milk is about $4/52 oz - expensive for milk, but still only about $0.61 per 8 oz serving. And it has more Protein, so it is worth it. But you can also buy cheaper milk. So a meal is less than $3. And Premier Protein is $25/18 at costco (sometimes on sale for $5 off) - so $1.40 each.
I buy frozen fish/shrimp at costco - a bag costs about $14 and has roughly 9 fillets in it. Lasts me forever. Each fillet lasts 2 meals for me (3 in the earlier days) - so about $0.78/serving. Add in some canned or frozen veggies, which are a few cents per serving. So, dinner is less than a couple dollars. Edited to add - and a little veg will last a while. I LOVE veggies and easily would eat a single zucchini or head of broccoli in a sitting. Now a zucc or brocoli will last me a week. SO there is savings there, too.
My eggs are fairly expensive - about $4/dozen (they're free range, organic, etc), so about $0.33/serving. But you can get eggs much cheaper.
I make dried Beans - a lb of beans lasts me forever. And the bag is only about $1-2.
My most expensive things for me are veggie sausage (about $4.50/bag - about $0.75/each) and every now and again I treat myself with really good cheese.
My Vitamins cost about $26/30 day supply, so about $0.86/day.
I track my spending pretty closely. Between rarely eating out (especially bringing my lunch to work every day) and eating a lot less, my food bill (grocery, vitamins, dining out) is significantly less than it was before. Plus, I'm off a few of my meds, so that saves me money every month.
If you're worried about the initial outflow of cash to get supplies, start buying things a bit at a time before surgery. Watch for when frozen veg goes on sale and stock up. Same with meat/fish/whatever protein and freeze it in 2-3 oz portions.

I had my Surgery 1/21/19. I had anxiety like everyone else. It went smooth. My throat hurt a little after but it went away in a week. 3 weeks and 1 day out I am 28 LBS down. I feel great. My biggest fear was nausea and vomiting. Nothing. No complications at all. I have progressed to soft diet eggs, thin deli meat etc without an issue. Just stick to the program. Take your time eating. And exercise!! Treadmill, Stationary bike. It will help. Good luck. You will do great!!

Thank you so much for the input. I agree. This is a tool, not a magic pill. I still have to work hard, or I will end up like I am now. Jitters for surgery I guess. Prayers for you that all goes well on Tuesday! You’ll be heading home when I’m going in.😊

I’m scheduled for next Thursday. I’ve felt very positive until today . I’m starting to have some anxiety. I’m also going over and over in my head if I were just strong enough or had enough self control maybe I could just do this all on my own. Anyone else experience this?

I am satisfied with buying less expensive bras at $10 from Walmart or wherever vs $60 from Lane Bryant. When im finally at my stable size I'll get fancier lol and buy from Victoria's Secret.

I am doing pretty good. I am 4 days post op. The first few days I had a lot of gas and discomfort. Today was a turning point for me with both the gas and pain greatly decreasing. Now if I could just have a Bowel movement, I would be over joyed[emoji3].

Also just an fyi, you may gain 5-15 lbs while hospitalized from the swelling and the IV fluids. I gained 7 lbs, but it is almost home now.
